I just saw three tiny baby splendid fairy wrens in the garden! I am delighted cos I haven't seen them for ages, I thought the free roaming cats ate them all. They were so cute and playful and reminded me of the kids in avatar movies.

Also seen monarch butterflies every single time I go outside, which I havent seen for a few years either. There are all sorts of butterflies in town at the moment, but the big orange ones are what I see most daily right now. Besides the cabbage moths!

The bees are everywhere in my many lilly pily hedges, and I have saved at least 30 from drowing the community swimming pool when Im down there! Poor things. I just hope they dont try to nest in my chimney again.

Of course the resident bobtail lizards are everywhere, there were two on the patio yesterday.

What wildlife do you see daily in your garden or your area?
 
Birds. 😀

Okay, at a guess that would be sparrows and pigeons/doves mostly. Seagulls are regularly in the area, though don't tend to land, and there is the occasional magpie.. I did once see some kind of raptor. There is the occasional bat, and I found one with a damaged wing. Mice can be a problem.

During summer, there are butterflies and I am pretty sure that foxes are around regularly. I imagine hedgehogs too. I don't tend to see either of these, though.
 
Squirrels are everywhere but the population has declined since the coyotes moved in. Bunnies are quite often seen in our back garden. We do have a hawk that seems to keep some of the smaller rodents under control and its nest is in a tree we can see from our back yard. We used to have raccoons but they have moved on somewhere. We don't have any lizards but we are quite satisfied with what we have.

Squirrels! I forgot those. Mostly because I don't see them in the garden, as they hang around places with better trees. Or any trees.

The duplex I rent is surrounded on 2 sides by wooded area, so I often see deer, racoons, and lots of different species of birds. I love it!!
 
There's a gopher who has absolutely NO respect for my property. I was hoping the rain would drown the little bastard, but no such luck. There's a new tunnel in my yard now. It's like he gave me the middle finger. 😅

We're officially at war.

I have had some massive spiders over summer, got any of those?

I found the spider thats been running its web across the driveway, very pretty, very fat, its trap must work well! No idea what kind it is, but it tucks itself in to the bushes during the day, so is no problem.

There is also a HUGE spider near the fishpond, I thought it was a mouse the first time I saw it, until I saw the legs! Span bigger than my hand.

That reminds me I saw a baby butcher bird near the pond the other day too, very cute!

When you say 'quote - I have had some massive spiders over summer - was the word ' had ' a metaphor for eaten?
I have kept my thoughts of the wildlife in the House of Black Thorns Garden a secret, mainly because it is hard to tell if the snail by the pond is angry, let alone wild!

Pfft Murican spiders would eat yers for lunch! They'd only be lite snacks for Australian spiders! 🕷️ 🕸️ 😉

But I dont think it is a possum in the roof 🙁 I've never seen them in town. They used to be everywhere when I was a kid, we'd go possum spotting with a torch while camping and the trees were full of bright eyes.

Im waiting for the frogs to come back, need some rain first!

What the! I thought bright eyes was from the film Watership Down. Mmmm rabbits in trees!
There are so many new moths and butterflies around! There was one in the shower last night that I have never seen before. Its wings looked like eyes! Seemed happy enough so I didnt disturb it.

I have had HEAPS of jewel beetles on the driveway. I dont know if they nest or swarm or something like, that but I will see dozens a day. The dogs think they are bull ants, so they leave them alone. They look a bit like this one but mine are brighter red

BEWARE there young November!
I heard that the slug at the end of the garden has found plenty of others slugs to go on the rampage with!!
Though I beg you to note that a rampage of slugs (Rampage being the correct terminology for a massed gathering of slugs in Sineya, not Black Thorn though),
also you might care to note that the rampage may take several weeks until they'll reach your house.

I'll not mention that if it was several weeks from this morning this week or last week!
