Will I Ever Find Another Show I Love Like I Love Buffy?

I dont know if I will ever find a show that I love more than Buffy!!! However, I am obsessed with LOST right now!!!... but it still doesnt compare to buffy 🙂

I think its cuz both shows star strong young, petite blond female leads (girl power theme), and the writing/character development is supposed to be very good on both shows. They cover similar periods in a persons life (high school and beyond) and some of the internal conflicts they face are similar. And since the vampire/demon mythology aspect of BtVS isn't one of my favorite aspects of the show, I thought VM might be to my liking. At least that was the impression I got when a friend was explaining to me.

Not so much the actual premise/plot of the shows.
 
Few shows in recent times really interest me, certainly not in the same way that Buffy did. I used to watch the show on BBC 2 as I didn't have Sky at the time; first in the 18:45 timeslot and again a couple of days later in the uncut 22:00 plus slot. I also used to tape the uncut version so that I could watch it again and again. Then I'd buy the VHS boxsets as soon as they were available and watch them over and over. Then of course when the dvd's arrived I would buy them. And watch them time and time again. Not that I was obsessed or anything! So I think it's fair to say that not many shows have ever compelled me in quite the same way.

However shows I make sure that I watch presently include:

Being human.
Doctor Who.
Skins.
Shameless.
Dexter.
Torchwood

All time favourites are:

Classic Doctor Who.
Robin of Sherwood (Beats the shit out of the present one!)
Press Gang (Written by some guy called Stephen Moffatt, whatever happened to him?)
My So Called Life.
Babylon 5.
BTVS (Duh!)

The present Doctor Who, and hopefully the future one, is the show that I presently hold closest to my heart.

The answer is yes, give it a few years.

God, I love JM in Torchwood. He's such a hottie. And who doesn't love a awesome antihero with a love for poodles? And a great outfit 😉

I love My So-Called Life 🙂 You know, Joss once said that he intended Buffy to be a mix between The X-Files and My So-Called Life.
 
I watch too much tv-shows (and still don't have time to watch everything one should). The thing about Buffy for me is that to me it's more than the show. Going back just a year I had my Buffy/Angel obsession for about two months while watching all the seasons through and after that about a month with the obsession fading away. And after that I didn't care much for maybe 6 months. Now I got this place to keep me closer to the show but I haven't watched more than 10 episodes for the last couple of months. But other than the show itself and the board you got comics, books and collectibles that makes my connection to the show stronger. It's makes it easier to keep the interest up so to speak.

I got a lot of shows I like but the ones that has gone for more than 5 seasons and I've watched as much as Buffy is only two. Friends and The west wing. Friends isn't s surprise I guess. Seems half the world was obsessed with it one time or another. But compared to Buffy it's nowhere near as deep. Not that it should, it's a sitcom after all. But the discussions were if Ross and Rachel was gonna end up together and Jennifer Anistons hair! Yep, very deep. :tongue:The west wing on the other hand has a lot to offer for discussion but I'm not into politics so that part of an "obsession" went away for me. But I'm still loving this show. The first seasons I rank before any season of Buffy (how dare I? 😉). Simply brilliant and lots of humour which I need to really get caught up in a show. What do we have on these boards, maybe two more people that likes it? A shame really.

I could list about 10 "“ 20 more shows I really like but since I haven't rewatched them nearly as much ( I love 24 for example but have "only" seen the first 4 seasons 3 or 4 times) so I'll skip naming them or I'll be here for the rest of the day. And shortlived shows sure got the potential (no one's missed Freaks and geeks have you?) but compared to what you get character wise from a lot of years so I don't see that the same way.

Guess that comes down to ones definition of "nearly" but personally I disagree. But that of course depends on how you make that comparison.

I'm pleased to see that some is mentioning NCIS. I really like the show too even though I was more obsessive the first seasons than I am now. But the first episode got me really hooked.
 
Oh! I have one! Dollhouse! How can this not be as good as, if not better, than anything else in the Jossverse? 🙂
 
I think Buffy has ruined all other shows for me... I KNOW that I will never find anything on TV as good as Buffy was. Seriously, I haven't even found something 75% as funny, witty, dramatic, scary, creepy, and emotional. No show has ever made me want to cry other than this one. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

To be fair, based on your username, I'm guessing you've spent most of your life watching The Smurfs. And of course Buffy looks pretty great by comparison.
 
Well, there are a couple of things I like apart from Buffy, but they're totally different kinds of shows so it is difficult to compare. House, it has the witty humour but the set up is completely different. The Mighty Boosh, well, I love it probably even more than Buffy but again, completely different kind of show. Same for QI, which isn't even a show in the strictest sense of the word, I guess.
