Will Lorne Die in the Buffyverse?

Since Andy passed away recently, do you think that will spell the end for Lorne?

Biran Lynch said that Doyle hasn't returned out of respect for Glenn, so I could see them giving Lorne similar treatment.

Personally, I think Brian & Joss are wrong on Doyle. I think it would be a nice tribute to Glenn to make Doyle an immortal literary character (like Batman, Spider Man, and now Buffy & Angel) in Glenn's honor.

In that same vein, I think it would be a nice tribute to Andy to give Lorne a nice arc, where he might come close to death, but continue to live on. Just look at Christopher Reeves and Superman...

This is actually something I've been wondering a lot myself, lately. I think having him kept alive as a tribute to him would be nice, too - Maybe even not doing an arc, but like having a seperate short-standing comic for him, like they did with 'Spike: After The Fall'. Something like that would be nice, as a tribute.

Different situations, I think. Doyle was already dead in the verse when Glenn passed and he had a heroes ending. Why mess with that either way really?

I don't really read the comics at all, but unless I'm really mistaken, Lorne's story hasn't really been finished definitively. And it seems almost "too soon" to kill he character off, when people are still mourning Andy the man.

I think that would be the natural course of things. It is so sad to think that he is gone but they could give him a great character arch. That would be wonderful.

I don't read the comics, so it's not going to affect me either way, but I think it would be a nice way to pay tribute to the characters and the actors who played them.

I want them to keep the character alive, to have Lorne riding into battle at Angel's side, just like always. To me, that is a better tribute to Andy than killing off the character.

In my opinion, killing Lorne is very disrespectful. To me it feels like them saying 'Oh, well, Andy's dead, so we really have no way of bringing Lorne back, should a movie happen in the future, so we'll just kill him now and get it over with'. I would be extremely upset if this happened.

Um, Aftermath is not part of the accepted Buffyverse canon, Joss had no involvement with it, and it has been over for months.

I don't know if he could carry a miniseries either, but a nice arc within the ongoing series would certainly be good in my eyes. He was pretty darn pivotal in After the Fall after all. In the Demon Lord Champions vs. Angel Inc. battle, Lorne and Spike were the major players with Illyria rounding out the team, in fact, Angel was arguably the least effective of the group there. And as the former King of a Utopia on earth in Silverlake, I think Lorne has a bit more "Champion Cred" than Sinatra...

I agree completely. And as for a movie, at this point it would take prosthetics and/or CGI for Marsters & Boreanaz to pull off being in their late-20s, so it seems unlikely 😉 In fact, as you can see in my siggy, when Boreanaz recently claimed to be 28 (one year older than Liam/Angel was), Craig Ferguson cracked up laughing!

Granted, it's not part of the accepted canon, but it is the current story line, and just about anything likely to be written any time soon is going to conform to it. My point was that, canon, non-canon, or something halfway in between, Lorne, while being a great supporting character, simply couldn't be the central figure in an action/adventure format story, and comic books aren't the medium for a musical comedy type story. If there had been a "Once More With Feeling" type story while the Angel series had been being broadcast, then, yes, he could certainly play the lead role, but it just wouldn't work as a comic book.

Ruling out his singing ability, we're left only with partial clairvoyance, which, again, isn't enough to carry the central character in any kind of action/adventure story, which is what both Angel and Buffy are.

If you want to have some sort of tribute to Lorne, it should be an album of all of the songs that he sung on the show. That would be more appropriate to the both the actor and the character that he played. There was a CD of "Once More With Feeling," so there's no reason to think that the same thing couldn't be done with Lorne's music.

No it's not and it doesn't. Aftermath has been over since 06/2009. There are no plans for it to return, and Brian Lynch (the canon Angel author handpicked and worked with by Joss Whedon) hadn't even read the Aftermath story when he resumed writing for Angel.

Unless Lorne has some heretofore hidden powers, and as impressive as the image of Lorne sweeping down astride the dragon Cordelia singing Wagner's "Flight Of The Valkyries," would be(are there lyrics to that?), he just isn't lead character material.

Now, if you wanted to do a takeoff on "Casablanca," where Willie the bartender walks into Lorne's new club, and it's revealed that they have share sort of mysterious past, you might have something. But "Casablanca" was still primarily a romance, not action, and "As Time Goes By" sort of loses its effect on the written page.

Your former confusion aside, I still have a hard time seeing where you're coming from. Xander had no combat skills until his S2 army training, and even then he still couldn't match a dragon in a fight...

Willow had little usefulness in a head-to-head fight until S4.

Fred was never especially formidable in a fight.

Cordy went four years without picking up battle skills.

I don't really see how "not being able to throw down with a dragon" = "not being able to have a nice character arc."
