I ask because she has two heavyweight films out in the next couple of weeks. This week she takes the lead in Tom Ford's Single Man follow-up Nocturnal Animals which protentially could be one of the year's best films, and good chance to show off her dramatic chops😀

Then hot on the heels of that she appears in Sci-Fi drama Arrival which is already being compared to Jodie Foster's role in Contact (1997). It looks a film which balances Sci-Fi epic with proper human emotions with Adams front and center.

So after five previous oscar nomination for Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008), The Fighter (2010), The Master (2012) and American Hustle (2013) will one of these two roles get this great modern actress a well deserved win?😛

Amy Adams: 'I thought, if I can’t figure this out, I can’t work any more'

This is the great interview. It highlights just how behind the times the media still remains on gender. And I think Amy speaks really well and with a lot of common sense. She is very honest. I am in full agreement about a good actor being more effective if they keep their private lives out of the spotlight. I think she's an old school actress and I like that.🙂

I adore Amy Adams. She's so classy, and probably one of the most versatile actresses in Hollywood. In fact, the only duff role I think I've seen her in was Lois Lane, and that's not her fault, she's just given nothing to do. I think in years to come, she's going to be held in the same sort of regard as Meryl Streep. And I think she is due an Oscar very soon, if not next year 😉

She's absolutely perfect in Enchanted, too, which by every right I should hate but I love that movie and it's because of her.

I ♥ Amy Adams. Such a gifted actress, intelligent & sweet. Plus got to support a fellow ginger. 😉
She should've won by now. 🙁

Which would be fitting given that Streep is one of her idols. Since she's only in her early 40s then there is plenty of time. Just hope the Hollywood age thing doesn't work against her😉

I second your support of Enchanted. Very few films nowadays serve their target audience and that is one that ticks all the boxes. That Adams has the comic chops helps too.

I certainly think that her performances in Junebug and The Master should have won her ones.

In other news Arrival topped the UK box office this week which is fantastic news! Its great to have two AA pictures in the top ten😛

I've seen both films now and they're both quite dull. Which should mean they fall nicely into Oscar territory.

Well I will be seeing both soon so will get back to you on that. But what I'm sure of is that Adams is going to be great in both. Was this the case for you?

I'm not the most discerning of critics for acting. If I'm enjoying the film and the acting isn't bad enough to be putting me off then I'm usually quite happy. I don't think Amy Adams was given an awful lot to work with in Nocturnal Animals. A good performance in Arrivals though. You'll probably find more to enjoy in them than I did.

That's fair. I've also heard some people say that the gender politics of NA was a bit suspect too.

I really liked The Arrival. I think some people just need more action when it comes to Sci-Fi. Which is probably why some didn't like BSG.

I would think that out of the two she is most likely to win for NA. Its does fit into that sort of awards arty, but worthy type of film. Not that I'm knocking it. Based on Tom Ford's excellent debut and the cast of this one I have high hopes. Also, very rarely do acting in Sci-fi films win awards which is sad.

Are the Oscars still taken seriously? I don't know much about Amy Adams or her acting ability, although it's good to see a woman of her age get big roles.

I can never tell her apart from Isla Fisher. But I don't feel like I've seen Adams in a lot so that might be why. I know she was on BtVS, beyond that I've only seen her in Enchanted and the Tenacious D movie, not really Oscar material acting required for either of those. 😛

I liked Enchanted! I had to look it up to re-fresh my memory but I do remember enjoying that movie, didn't remember she was in it though. Saw that a "Disenchanted" is in pre-production...

In some ways yes, in others no. I find them very predictable and not very reflective of film as a whole. But I do think having an Oscar win or even nomination can bring more attention to a undervalued film, or actor/actress. Then again to many it can be a hex too😉

You should really check her out in stuff like the Master and Junebug. Those films and roles really show that there is much more to Adams than just the lighter comedy stuff. And of course she was in the Muppets! And was delightful so what more could you ask?😛

So I saw Nocturnal Animals tonight and will be seeing Arrival in the next week or so. As for the first performance I don't think Amy puts a foot wrong. Its a very composed and controlled performance with just about as much power and depth as you could hope for considering she's on the fringes a lot of time and is not given a lot to do. It impressed me how she sold both sides of character as the story switched between the past and the present.

Agreed about Arrival. It's yet another failed adaptation of science fiction novels/novellas.

How though?

I've even heard people from the background of the Adams character say that its a better portrayal of them than you normally get in films.
