Will there be a season 9?

Will this "season 8" wrap up eventually and be the end or will there be a season 9 with a new Big Bad? I haven't seen mention of it anywhere but I haven't been keeping up with the comics very well, so far I've only read what's in the two trade paperbacks and whatnot.

About 20 issue run for Season 9 is about all that's known.
Yeah, there's definitely plans for a Season 9. And Joss has said it's gonna take place quite awhile after the events of Season 8, when the Scoobs are a lot older (I know I've read that somewhere).

There will be a S9, but it'll be shorter than S8 and I think the end of the Buffyverse.
 
i would be very sad if season 9 is the last of the buffyverse.

my gut is telling me that joss may continue it anyway. and why not....its such a big seller for dark horse. i watch the rating/sales very closely (Diamond Sales; scroll toward the bottom for month-by-month charts) and all the buffy comics thus far have outsold most of the bigger "dc" and "marvel" comics.

it would be a pity for us fans, dark horse, and joss to end buffy once and for all.
 
Good news and great to hear what I didn't know. Although, I'm not sure how I feel about older scoobies...

Also, please Joss, please let Buffy know that Spike is alive already! (I know he has his own life on Angel comics, but still. I don't think the series should end before that happens!)

If it remains a big seller, they'll probably keep it around in some form or another. That's what my gut tells me, anyway. I mean, to drop a big seller just because you have this predetermined end point is just plain silly. Joss and Co. are a creative lot. I'm sure the Buffyverse has more potential than the end point that they've dreamed up.
 
yeah i read off something to do with comic con that its going to have a shorter run. any buffy is good in my book
 
I wouldnt be surprised if after S9 we get several minis focusing on specific charecters written by different writers that arent Joss Whedon.

And if they were to do Buffy S10 Joss would probably pull a S6 Buffy and just approve/dissapprove storylines. Since writing comics is a full time job in of itself. 12 issues per year and keeping quality up is a lot of work.
 
Well if Joss continued it any further past season nine (or whenever his "end point" his) then Buffy would start to become about the money. Joss has always implied that his story is far more important to him than the money. So, if Joss wants to end it and he feels strongly about it and it's a good enough ending, I'm all for it. But I wouldn't want a cashcow version of Buffy at ALL.

Did that make any sense?

Joss says he knows how season 8 ends and how season 9 starts. Like a few people have said already S9 will be later in the Scoobies lives. Honestly, I think if Joss feels that nine is it fro now, well then that will be it. He has always said he will write the stories that need to be told not the stories that make the money. However, I do think that we could expect a mini series every now and then either dealing with the Scoobies journeys between seasons 8 and 9 or after season 9.

Don't forget between Seasons 7 and 8. There's all kind of potential for great stories there.
Anyway, with one issue a month, we still got plenty of Buffy for many years to come... Let's enjoy! =D
 
well it will have to come to an end from what the events of fray is saying, I hadn't heard that season 9 was gonna be a good bit ahead! Maybe that's so if he wanted to he could come back to the period between the two?
 
Yep, I've read what everyone has, that S9 is a given, but will be shorter. I didn't know that it was gonna be set in the future lives of the Scoobies, though. That should be interesting!

Past that? Doubtful, s'what my gut says, unless they're just little stories that go back and fill in some of the detail from the past. Which I would SO be reading. Joss ought to do something like that, y'know? Start before the beginning, tell the stories that fell in between seasons. For one, I would love to see Buffy and Merrick, and for two, I would love to see what happened between S6 & S7, then again from S7 to S8. Or heck, here's an idea: Faith's story. Again, I'd be buying the hell out of that.

But anyway, I was just talking about this with a friend the other day, we're both big Buffy fans and both have been devouring S8 as soon as it drops, and wondering what Joss' plans are for the rest of the season, and for S9. Much as I hate the idea, though, part of me feels like Joss is carefully drawing things to their inevitable conclusion. Which is... y'know... sad. 🙁
 
I suppose it depends if SMG can be persuaded to do a Film. If that ever happens then everything will change. Also if Dollhouse is a success then I think he will be too busy with that.

I think that we can pretty much relagate Angel, Spike, and Buffy to the "Gone BUt Not Forgotten" file and hope for a Faith movie, a Fray movie, or a completely new Slayer movie. That's our only hope.
Has anyone got a link to where Joss Whedon (or anyone else) talks about a possible Season 9?

As Season 8 is supposed to be taking place during 2004 then jumping forward several years may involve jumping forward to present day (Which will 2010/2011 at the earliest).


If there is a Season 9 and it does jump forward several years how is Joss going to explain the gap in the story. I suspect something big will happen. I doubt that it will be a case of ending one story and then just starting a new story without any major explanation of the gap.

My possible scenario's are:-
1) Buffy defeats Twilight but is captured by the Army who locks her up in a prison (perhaps a Guantanamo type situation) and it takes several years before she released / rescued.
2) Buffy defeats Twilight but to protect her Slayer Army she has to go on the run from the authorities. This separates her from her friends which causes lots of problems when she eventually returns.
3) Buffy defeats Twilight and forms an alliance with the Army (with the help of Riley) with the intention of bringing about what Twilight claimed it wanted. The end of the era of magic. (It has been suggested in the comic book Frey that a Slayer led her friends in achieving this).

Also they could combine all three possibilities into one story.

To me,at least,option 1 seems like the most likely.

#2 smells too much like S6(with Buffy's resurrection)-and I'm not sure Joss wants to steal plots from himself.

#3 could work,but-if I remember right-issue 6 kinda brought up the possibillty that,ever since the activation of all the potential slayers,there's more rogue slayers out there than who we already know.

I think Joss would want the Slayer that achieves the defeat of all demons and banishes all the Magic's to be our favourite blonde Vampire Slayer.
