I think I'll come post my opinion after the first seven episodes, hey it's a lucky number! ;)
There's no real way to tell.

Will the overall ratings go up at all, stay even, or go down? Same with the demos. The demos are very important. Unfortunately, since most shows usually go down after their pilot I'm going to say that no, Dollhouse probably won't get a second season, but I'm hoping FOX will encore a few episodes on other nights to give it more exposure, so hopefully more people will tune in to the show on Fridays.

This is why it's a GOOD thing the first half of the season is not too serialized.

What demos?
Well, even outside BB it seems to have been received very positively so it's certainly not hopeless. The ratings could have been better but it might get more viewers next week if word gets out that the show is actually good!

Edit: Hopefully Fox will also consider than Whedon shows always sell lots of DVDs. 😛

I heard that Joss Whedon was planing on doing 5 seasons of it...if it's successful

Could you imagine 5 seasons of it...Brilliant!!! 😀

So we´re gonna guess? Ok, if people actually stick around until the last part of the season when it´s gonna start for real yes I think so. But I´m afraid enough people will stick around that long.

Based on the first episode the show sure has potential to be good enough to get a second season. But we both know that that has nothing to do wether or not the show will get a second season. It´s all (or at least mostly) about ratings. And ratings isn´t a sign of the quality of a show.
 
I don't think it could be said by this point if there would be a second season. But then again watching season one of Buffy, I don't think I'd have predicted there'd be a second season, never mind seven (Well, six more, but you know what I mean). So we can only hope. 😀
 
The first episode had potential for at least one whole season. After that, I couldn't tell. Will Echo realise what's going on at the end of this season? If so, what would the next seasons be about? If not, over how much time can you spread something like that? It's like Lost, cool show; but after 4 seasons being stuck on an island that seems to be expanding with every step they take, there's no more fun to it.
And that's only the story related issues, of course there's the ratings that will be a major influence on FOX's decision, and also on Joss's decision I think. We're living in a commercial age after all. I hope, since the first episode is remarkebly well received, the word will spread, but we can't be sure of that. Generally, it tends to go the other way round unfortunately.

I think Lost has proven that it was never restricted by its initial premise.
If it can keep around a 2 demo on Friday nights then it very well could have a second season. I guess it just depends on how well the other episodes play out.
 
I think the pilot was good with setting everything up and now the real intrigue will begin and word will get around. I just hate that it's on Fox. The only shows they let last anymore are cartoons. They rarely let a good show prosper... and we all know which show that is.
