Willow Mocking Faith in "This Year's Girl"

Did anybody else find Willow very childish mocking Faith after the meet up at the college, in "This Year's Girl"?

Example:

She's like this

cleavagy slutbomb walking around going (mocking tone) "Ooh, check me

out, I'm wicked cool, I'm five by five."

Tara: Five by five? Five what by five what?

Willow: See, that's the thing. No one knows

I'm like shut up Willow.

Yeah, it's a bit immature, but sometimes you just need to say something like that to get out your emotions. I don't think she would have been able to convey her feelings as well if she had been like, "We all strongly dislike her because she thinks she's really great and wears revealing clothing." It just doesn't have the same effect.

Well it's no secret that she never liked Faith. I think she was just glad of a chance to say it to someone after so long, childish or not.

I found it funny myself, especially when it was followed by "Five what by five what?"

I thought it was pretty funny, and made sense because Willow doesn't like Faith

That didn't really bother me, I did however, find it pretty damn immature when she said, "That was the funnest coma ever." I understand why she said it, I guess it was just such a contrast to Buffy's "What if she's sorry and scared" attitude, that it kind of shocked me.

Willow's attitude toward Faith bothered me through the out the show, for the most part (Cept the VERY beginning.) The only reason she became SO rabidly against her is because Xander had sex with Faith. Other events may have contributed later on, but that was where the rabid hate started, and it certainly was a major fuel point for the rest of their relationship. Willow seemed to have this...irrational dislike for anyone Xander was with or looked at, up until the episode where she and Anya FINALLY come to a head in the sixth season..... But that's an issue for another thread.

ahem anyway. I love this scene!! It cracks me up. She is only nineteen. I can be just as childish and Im 21. In fact I stick my tongue out at people while I'm driving lmao so I dont find this all that immature.

Willow didn't like Faith before she slept with Xander. It started when Buffy was always hanging out with her and leaving Willow off to the side, which is understandable. But at this point, Faith had tried to kill every single one of her friends, and her. So no, I don't think it was immature. I thought it was funny, and I was glad to see Willow come out of her nice person shell.

When it comes to mocking, I give enormous leeway to the gal whose had a knife pressed to her throat by the one she's mocking. Or the gal who's just been threatened that her arm will be ripped off an hour ago from the gal who pressed the knife.

And Willow was certainly jealous of Faith moving in on Xander and Buffy. However, I really believe that if Faith didn't go psycho, Willow would have kept her negative feelings to herself and tried to get along with Faith. When Buffy came to complain about how Faith wasn't feeling guilt over Finch, Willow tried to explain for Faith ("Maybe she's in shock.") After Willow learned that Faith tried to frame Buffy for Finch and slept with Xander, Willow takes her hurt feelings to the ladies room. After Willow learned that Faith tried suffocating Xander (not clear if the attempted rape was revealed), she starts talking out against Faith.

However even as late as Doppelgangland when Willow clearly doesn't like Faith, she's trying to keep her emotions check re: Faith and maintain some civility when talking to Faith. Willow's ire against Faith was very earned.

It may be a little juvenile, but I really can't blame Willow for mocking Faith. Faith was working with the Mayor who was plotting the deaths of everyone in Sunnydale. Plus there's the whole holding Willow hostage thing in "Choices." Faith is a great character of course, but I think Willow earned the right to make a little fun of her here.

I love that moment, I think it's funny.... cause it's true 🙂 I mean I love Faith but Willow definitely has a point and to someone who doesn't like her, like Willow, it makes sense to mock her for those qualities.

Also, personally, as far as mocking goes I think it's pretty tame, so it doesn't harm my image of Willow.

Well had she done that early in season 3 it would have been slightly annoying. But by season 4, it's not like Faith didn't deserve it. Plus it was funny 😀

I think it was a part of her growing confidence. She was in a process of changing from a shy person who is scared to face people and tell them what she thinks, to the person who dates a guy (and even ready to have relations with him for her first time).

So, no, I didn't want her to shut up at all. I was glad to see her say what's on her mind, no matter how immature she sounded. She was in the middle of the process, the one I mentioned above.

I do think that there's a double-standard where when Cordelia rightfully mocks someone it's "fierce", when Anya mocks someone, it's because she's newly human and doesn't understand stuff and when Buffy does it, it's kick-ass or understandable because Buffy has such a hard life. Willow's snark is really put to a harsher microscope.

I don't have a problem with any of the Scoobies anti-Faith comments in This Year's Girl because Faith totally earned their anger and mistrust and she was still being evil from the minute she woke up from her coma. However if I had to pick the most objectionable line from the Scoobies, it would be:

Faith: I wake up to find that this blonde chick isn't even dating the guy she was so nuts about before. I mean, she's moved on to the first college beef stick she meets. And not only has she forgotten the love of her life, she's forgotten all about the chick she nearly killed for him. So that's my dream. That and some stuff about cigars in a tunnel. But, uh, tell me, college girl . . . what does it mean?
Buffy: To me? Mostly. That you still mouth off about things you don't understand.

If Faith has a point at all that the Scoobies should feel apologetic about or where there's a truly gray area, it's whether it was wrong for Buffy to try killing Faith to save Angel's life.

I'll also add that Willow wasn't saying this stuff out of the clear blue sky. Tara wanted to know how to find Faith and Willow was communicating why the Scoobies are hunting this teenaged girl who was just in a coma and why Tara helping was above and beyond the call of duty. Of course in typical Willow style, that explanation became a heck of a lot more side-tracked and personal and emotional (and funny) than an accurate, serious account would be. And I could see Willow saying this stuff if she and Tara were just out for coffee.

However, the basic point of the comment was Willow explaining why they're hunting down Faith and that's never going to be a flattering answer or free from Willow's anger as an actual victim of Faith.
