Okay, so it's all making sense now.

Issue #31 is called "Retreat : Epilogue" and will come out on January the 6th.

And on December the 23rd, a Willow one-shot comes out ! It doesn't really belong to Season Eight, it's more independent like the Tales of the Vampires (it doesn't have an issue number or anything I mean).

"Willow Rosenberg has worn many faces -- a shy computer geek, a loyal friend, a passionate lover, a fierce Wiccan, and a dark Willow.

Now in Season Eight of the critically acclaimed, award-winning Buffy comics series, Willow's powers have grown exponentially. She can fly. Teleport. And may or may not be immortal.

All we know is that Willow went on a walkabout following the demise of Sunnydale, and she met a very sultry, extremely powerful serpent lady who seems to be the key to unraveling the mysteries of what Willow is, and will become.

Joss Whedon and his Fray co-creator Karl Moline reunite for this special one-shot!"

(I just created this thread for people who were as confused as me on the subject!)

I was big-eyed at the cover the first time I saw it. 😀 And I'm not confused anymore. Just a little afraid they won't put it in TPB of Retreat. 🙁

Very excited for this issue. It will be nice to see some more in-depth character study for Willow. It would be really nice to see one of these for each of the core four.

I hope it elaborates on Saga Vasuki and the obviously sexual relationship between her and Willow.

That said, the cover art is gorgeous.

Here's more on this issue from Dark Horse's website:

In December, we release "Goddesses and Monsters," the Willow one-shot that Joss wrote for Karl Moline. One of the biggest mysteries of Season Eight has been Willow's rise to power and her relationship with the serpent lady, Aluwyn. This one-shot won't exactly nail that mystery shut, but it gives you a lot to think about. What Karl Moline gave us was some really cool designs, reminding us that his talents are numerous and considerable. I can't wait for you to see Muffitt the steampunk waif.

"Aluwyn" is Saga Vasuki's real name, it seems.

I'm really excited for it then! I really hoped they would at least address the issue and origin of Aluwyn/Saga Vasuki (and how she and Willow met.) Especially because when I started reading S8, my basic reaction was "WTF who is this overtly sexual serpent lady and why can Willow fly? :/" I feel like in S8, there were a lot of unexplained things that really lacked a much needed back story.

I had the same feeling. I'm glad the one shot is coming out. It'll be like "Willow Begins".

Plus, it's been way to long since the last Willow one shot "Willow and Tara" even though that one was non-canon.

The Willow one-shot is called "Goddesses and Monsters" and comes out on Dec. 23; #31 is called "Turbulence"... it's a one-shot written by Joss, and comes out on Jan. 6. Then in February Brad Meltzer's arc starts, which is apparently called "Twilight" and will be 4 issues long.

And then there will probably be a couple more one-shots before Joss's final arc that finishes up season 8.

There will be a season 9, however, we haven't got anything in the way of dates or anything like that. A story outline hasn't been given either but it has been said that it will take place years after season 8 and will be shorter than season 8. Of course, all of this could change but that's what we know so far. 🙂

Just glad to know there will be one!

The latest (sketchy) info is that season 9 may start as early as 2011. I haven't heard any more talk about the "set years later" bit and don't know if that's still the plan. It will focus on a smaller cast than season 8 did, so fewer issues will be needed to tell the story.

Welcome back, BTW...🙂

I hadn't heard about the smaller cast. I suppose that only makes sense though.

Thanks hun 🙂

It's all good news to me. I see the season comics as kinda like the Star Trek movies, years have passed, but you see the old group is still kicking.
