After watching the first three of season six, I have to say it seems Willow only brought back Buffy because 1: she could and 2: she wanted it more than the others.
Even the wacky "doc" guy from season five told Dawn not to mess with bringing back the dead!

Looks as if the girl that started out as a geeky computer hacker is getting way over her head with this magical stuff (well, at least that's how it appears now)

Tara appears to only do magic on a basic level and Willow is even getting stronger than Tara--and at the same time trying to pull in Tara deeper as well.

Oh, and why is it in "After life" the demonic entity had Buffy in the Tara/Willow bed scene, but did not try to kill her? Buffy's body was overtaken, right? Also, for Buffy to tell Spike her line at the end is very revealing--especially since she "lied" to her friends about it!

More later...

I agree that Willow got a little crazy in season six. She used magic for every little thing. Just wait till you see the reast of the season. And as for the bedroom scene, I don't think that Buffy's body was overtaken. That one was an illusion of Buffy. It wasn't Buffy possesed by the evil entity demon.

Chasing Cordy, out of curiosity is this the first time you've seen season six? which seasons have you seen?

I'm jealous of you who get to see everything in the right order like this, must be lots of fun 🙂

Anyway. I actually don't think Willow was being selfish. I know everyone says she was but... hey I'd want people to bring me back if I was dead! Ok this is a different thing, different reality etc.. But still, there is nothing strange with wanting to bring your best friend (and the saviour of the world, sort of) back, if you have the chance to do so.

*Some discussion of later Season 6 here-avoid if you haven't seen it!*

The first time I saw Season 6 I was also taken aback by how Willow's character had changed. I'm not sure it's selfishness, it's just that she's so power-driven and so sure that she's right. There's a good reason why Giles blasts her in "Flooded" for doing something so dangerous in resurrecting Buffy. You might have thought he'd be nothing but overjoyed to have Buffy back, but he isn't.

I don't think Dark/Evil Willow was launched in "Seeing Red" (avoiding the spoiler here!) I think that part of her was clear throughout Season 6, and had started building well before then, perhaps as early as Season 3. It's not that Willow is any more evil than her fellow Scoobies, it's that she has so much difficulty not slipping into becoming evil because her witchcraft power is so strong.

i don't think she was selfish she was just addicted to magic she never told tara to do anything she didn't want to do...and the buffy thing everyone is selfish when i comes to ppl dying on u u always want them back its a normal thing it is just that willow could actually do it.

the Buffy in Willow & Tara's bedroom wasn't the real Buffy, it was an illusion of her. remember, Willow and Tara go straight to Buffy's room when the illusion disappeared and she was sleeping in her bed.
as for Buffy telling Spike her secret at the end of the ep...this just goes to prove how distanted she is from her friends and sister. she can't bring herself to tell her best friends this huge thing that is weighing her down, yet she can tell a vampire who has tried to murder her on more than one occasion? Spike is the only person in Buffy's life who will tell her the truth no matter how much it's going to hurt her. the rest of them would suger coat it for her, which is why, as you'll see, Chasing Cordy, Buffy turns to Spike more and more as the season progresses.

I think the driving force behind Willow bringing Buffy back was because of the concern for her well-being. Everyone was concerned that she was in hell. I don't think that Willow only performed the spell because she 'could'. Also, Buffy didn't die by natural causes, and that's why they could bring Buffy back.

I do agree though that she acted rashly during the season with magic use.

i dont think willow was selfish, tara knew how to use her power in moderation but willow was becoming addicted and fasinaed about magic, ( she knows alot about what she knows, so her curiosity about magic drew her in)

I think it was very selfish of Willow. I mean Buffy was at peace. Let her rest damn it! If Willow was that damn powerful then she could have held done the fort in Sunnydale! (I love Willow, don't get me wrong)

Willow was not acting selfishly! She thought Buffy could be in a hell dimension, also she was only working on hope and faith that the spell would work, it is only really afterwards that she realises how truly powerful she is!

OK, but she could have done a spell to project herself to Buffy to actaully see. You can't play with life and death like that. If I were Buffy I would have been mad. To be in heaven and pulled out. Just like with Joyce, consequences as the man said and DAwn tore up the picture cause she realized it was wrong to bring her back for selfish reasons. Cause she felt she couldnt make it with out her, just a Willow. Selfish, definitely.

no sorry but i dont agree, it wasnt just willow who brought buffy back....xander,anya,tara..... they all belived her to b in a hell demention like angel ( she did fall through the portal) though her body did fall through it her soul could have been transported to the hell demention that glory was tryinh to realise.....they didnt know what really happened to buffy, they had to try....

Once more, they could have done a spell to actually see where she was!

That might be hard since there are many, many hell dimensions as they have said on the show, and if they did do it and didn't find her on any Willow would probably think she screwed the locator spell and gone on with the resurrection spell.

I'm guessing they would've done something like that if it was a simple as you seem to think it might be. I have of course no idea, hey I'm no wicca, but yea, might be really complicated.

ah yes i remember, the troll episode....when willow and anya relise orlof from the crystal... when there sending him to a " troll" demention anya says he may end up there but the dementions are moving all the time...he could land up in the world without shrimp. ( bless tara)
so doing a locator spell would be technicaly harder....reserection whould have been seen as there best choice. ( saving buffy from "torment")

As I read all these responses, I come to the conclusion that she indeed was selfish.
Willow knew Buffy for five years at this point and she knew the kind of person Buffy was. Just because somebody breaks up a hell dimension, it doesn't mean he/she will go to hell. Shouldn't we consider the kind of person it was first?
Buffy died doing good and she was a relatively good person. You shouldn't get hell for that!

Besides, would they have attempted to bring Dawn back had she died? I pretty sure Buffy would not have been happy about that. She knows why the death had to happen (sacrifice one for the many).

But Willow had no way of knowing for sure where Buffy would go. The only experience she had to go by was Angel, and I'm sure she wasn't thinking very rationally about the differences between Buffy's and Angel's deaths.

Willow had no way of knowing what way everything would turn out, and it's obvious from Bargaining Pt ! that she was very upset about it. But as someone else said, it took four people to bring Buffy back. Any of them could have stopped Willow had they wanted but they didn't. If Willow is accused of being selfish, then you have to accuse the rest of them of being selfish too. Maybe they were not as committed to bringing Buffy back as Willow was, but they weren't falling over themselves to stop her.

I don't think Willow acted tottally unselfishly - of course there were slefish motives behind what she did, she wanted her friend back. But she had other, more important reasons.

willow wasnt selfish, she didnt know were buffy was ? a locator spell of something like it would take forever? easer reserection, she could have been in any demention? a day in a hell demention is like a life time ? ( look at angel?) she and the scoobies were doing what they thought best.
