Willow Spinoff

Is it just me? or does anyone else find it odd that there was never a pitch,as far as i know at least,for a Willow spinoff. It seems like one of the most obvious characters given how popular Willow was and is today. So anyways ,what would the Willow show be? where would it be? and what themes would the Willow series have as it s core focus. I think it would've been a great series. Interested to read your thoughts 🙂

I think it was never pitched as an idea because Xander, Willow and Buffy somewhat comes as a package deal, I don't see the writers separating that group. Same somewhat applies to Giles but they have more room with him because of Ripper.

Anyhow, I obviously love the idea of a Willow spin off (who am I kidding, I would even watch an Andrew spin off at this point). But I do think Willow would make a good standalone, I didn't read WW but from what I've heard it did very well with sales.

As for the show itself, I'd just like something focused on exploring the magic world, so something that deviates a bit from the whole demon thing, and instead could deal more with dimensions and the mythology of magic. So off course add a few wiccan or shaman characters. They could have her on a mission to restore the slayer line after it is broken at some point between the Buffy comics and the Fray universe, and it could deal with DW of the future. Maybe have some time jumps. Just random ideas, there's quite a bit they could do with her.

Not too sure for the themes, I'd like it to be based more on mythology and a different world than what we got with Buffy or Angel which dealt with vampires. Maybe introduce Tara as an entity (I don't want to say ghost) that guides Willow. But themes, I'm blanking. I think they could have some pretty unique themes though compared to Buffy and Angel.

I honestly don't think that Willow's character would be strong enough to carry a full series on her own. Maybe a limited edition arc. like 3 or 4 issues, but, beyond that, I just don't see it.

She definitely was busy after Buffy wrapped. If I remember correctly, she filmed another American Pie movie, and then did the pilot for HIMYM, and the rest of that is history.

I would have loved a spinoff though - as long as she remained Willow I wouldn't care about the rest.

Okay - fantasy time! Let's get Illyria in there. Willow (and a few others?) come to LA for NFA - Illyria rescues them by shooting them into another dimension. And I want Wesley to live!

Not only do I adore Willow, but I also adore Ally and Alexis! Love the darkness convo when Willow comes to AtS to reinstall Angel's soul.

Call me biased (And I know there are people that have got to be sick of me saying it), but I would love it if Tara would be in this.

Maybe it could be something like there's certain objects scattered throughout the world that are either tied to powerful lost Magicks, or to the ancient Slayers, and basically, Willow's looking for them so they won't fall into demon hands?

Sounds really cliche I know, but maybe it could be one object is focused on for a season? Like, say there's an old, powerful spellbook somewhere in London, and Willow ends up searching the whole city for it, fighting some demons along the way?

I seems to me that Willow is a package deal as a character, an intergal part of The Scoobies. Her character lends itself less to spinoffs that say Faith or Giles (who only really have strong ties to Buffy).

Willow works best as a supporting character or as part of an ensemble cast. AH is a very strong actress with great range and presence, but I think that Willow always came across as needing lots of interactions with other people.

However, I do like the whole 'exploring magic' idea, scavenger hunts for powerful magical items, exploring dimensions and such. But Willow would need company for that sort of thing.

If there were to be a Willow spin off, I think it would have to explain why Willow was leaving the Scoobies. I agree that Willow, Buffy and Xander are a package deal. So what would it take for Willow to separate from them and do her own thing? That's what the show would have to deal with.

I suppose Willow does go of on her own inbetween S7 and 8, doesn't she? I get the impression that she and Kennedy seperate from the others and go off on their own to look for slayers.
Plus Willow seems to be learning magic on her own from that Alywun (?) snake-demon-woman, so it is possible to find a reason for Willow to seperate from the group.

I still think she'd work best with an ensemble behind her though, or as a supporting character.

But to honest the biggest obstacle for a spin-off, for me, is Kennedy. That is a chatacter and a relationship I have little interest in seeing any more of, without it being overhauled to have it somehow be more interesting/believable.

I actually had this idea once about a Willow spin-off too. I really liked the idea and I still do.

I think a Willow spinoff would have worked just fine. I think she could carry it (although naturally like every other show it wouldn't rely solely on the lead character, there would be an ensemble support cast). A good complimentary support cast would be all she would need in my mind.

I like the idea of the Willow show starting, say, five years after the events of Buffy/Angel. Allow a little time to have elapsed to allow the main character to change and develop. This way, you can adjust Willow's nature/personality a little bit to accommodate better a lead role and lead persona. I think a few little changes to Willow (explainable as growth/maturation over time) would be enough. And I would get rid of Kennedy of course. Maybe something tragic happened to Kennedy at some point over those 5 years of time between shows.

I like the idea of exploring different magical dimensions. I don't have a lot of ideas for the show at this point, but it would have a lot of potential. A ripper show, a Faith show, and a Willow show...that would have all been perfect. Just those 3 would be enough for me!

Willow wants to fight evil, help people but I cannot imagine her doing it in the same fashion as Angel or Buffy. Willow's more about making the impossible happen, setting a ludicrously hard goal ( like bringing back Angel or Buffy ) then smashing it regardless of moral issues and becoming more powerful in the process. Dynamism or vigor is the central theme of the character. How do you translate it into a story? You give Willow a goal and let her do the magic. Not an enemy, a goal.

I don't see ditching Kennedy as a problem, that's easy. Ditching Buffy on the other hand, now that's a problem. How do you separate these two? And what about Xander? I have no idea. Willow's hard.

I could see a series where Willow is the leader of a team of young Slayers, not in a Watcher capacity as much as more of a drill sergeant. The young Slayers handle the required action while Willow supplies the training, strategy, and magical support. Sort of "Charlie's Angels," but with Willow instead of Charlie, and no Farrah Fawcett. Also, no Kennedy.

That could work.

I think Amy could be a good recurring villain. Like Willow's Ethan Rayne. She could just pop up every so often to mess with Willow. Then they would be forced to work together to overcome a shared enemy. Oh that could be fun. I'm liking this Willow spin off more and more. Lots of good ideas.

This I could totally see happening. I mean, is it ever properly explained what happens to Amy after Season 8? She totally could have been Willow's nemesis in this spinoff we're seemingly planning.
