Willow: The Onslaught of Asylum (Post-season 7; contains spoilers)

WOW! This is getting better and better. I feel sorry for Asylum a little...

Hehe, PrettyasaPictur is right, it's amusing that the people are (as she said) "keeping it 'real'".

No need to post any comments, but some things have been edited for continuity. Please feel free to check it out. Plus, I will be writing ALOT more now that finals are over.

Part 29 - Love, Complicated

Xander tried to push free from Rene, but her strength was phenomenal. She leaned away from him. Humiliation played out on her delicate looking features. Tears streamed from her eyes. She shrank away from Xander's touch, curling up on the floor in a limp heap. Was she being tortured, played with?
"Rene, are you okay?" Xander asked. His wrists hurt from her iron grasp.
"P-please"¦ go, go a-away," she shot back. Xander loomed nearby, unsure of what to do. Rene glared at him. He was a good man, this much she could sense. But she only wished him to leave the chamber.
"GO AWAY!" An invisible force slammed into him, knocking him to his back.
"Owwwe," he groaned, wincing. The force slid him out the door and across the vanished wooden floor, ramming him into the plush living room couch. He looked back in to see her covering her mouth with her hands. She glanced at him for a moment as something slammed the heavy door, between them, shut.

It was around 9: 30 at night, and Rupert and Jenny sat in a corner booth at a tiny Italian Bistro. Giles flipped through the pages of his journal, reading his notes on Rene Laroche, while Jenny nibbled away at a turkey club sandwich. Oladrick had been uncharacteristically generous in allowing some of his own volumes to be borrowed by the Watcher's Council. This made Rupert very apprehensive. Oladrick never did favors out of benevolence. As a confidant of the Immortal, Oladrick preferred the trade of services, and the favor he owed Giles simply didn't constitute the removal of such aged texts.
Her mouth half full, Jenny asked, "What are you trying to figure out now?"
"How the slayer line could have been carried on"¦ that has got me very curious. It would have required powerful magics to accomplish such a"¦" Giles stopped. He looked up at the beautiful raven-haired woman and smiled at her. All this time, he thought"¦ all this time and she still lights up the room. As though she read his mind, Jenny placed her hand on top of his. "Yes, anyhow, to manage such a feat."
They could see and feel and taste it. The attraction. Lingering, longing, overriding. So much had been denied to them; love, emotion"¦ a life together. As a watcher, you rarely have those things to look forward to. But now, bubbling under the surface, long gone feelings stirred in them both. The problem was they both felt it. As well, they both fought to suppress it. Now wasn't the time for such tomfoolery, thought Giles. He inhaled sharply and set back to his studies. Jenny gave a mild frown and set back to her sandwich.

In the Ukraine, it was even later. Oz's band had just finished up their set and they were now packing up his van. Petra and Ivan were resting against the side of the building, kissing and nuzzling. Emelle hauled an arm full of cords out to the van. Oz and Natalie walked out of the front door. Oz locked it tightly behind him.
"So, what's this carnival you were talking about?" asked Oz, in decent Russia, to Ivan. Petra kissed Ivan's neck as he looked up and said, "Oz, it should be fun. Games, lights, music, and all the alcohol you can drink." His Russian was far better.
Emelle, closing the doors to Oz's van, said, "I keep telling him, Oz. If he keeps drinking, he's going to pickle himself."
Ivan shot back, "I shall drink my vodka till the day I die, it is my second girlfriend. It will be what any affairs I have will be with." Petra cuffed him hard on the back of the head. Ivan turned to face her, a playful smile on his face.
"You wish," she said, "you are lucky I love you"¦ just a tiny bit." Petra closed her fingers to show how much she meant by a little bit. Oz, Natalie, and Emelle all laughed at the look Ivan gave her.
"Anyhow," said Oz, "did you want to meet there tomorrow? What time?"
"Tomorrow night, seven o'clock," said Ivan, "I'll bring Petra, you can bring Natalie"¦ oh, and I suppose one of us should get Emelle."
"Only if you want to still have a drummer, you will," Emelle shot back as he got into the back seat of Ivan's run down car. Petra walked over and spoke quickly with Natalie in Russian. Oz couldn't keep up, but he had a suspicion it was about him. His suspicion was confirmed when he caught Petra look at him and quickly turn away when she saw that he saw her. The two giggled. Petra and Natalie hugged as Ivan yelled out, "Oz, see you tomorrow night, my friend," in Russian. As Petra got in the car, the others sped away. Oz and Natalie stood there next to his van. She slid her arms into his coat and rested her head on his shoulder. They loved sharing a comfortable silence as much as they loved talk.
"Oz, do you feel okay," she asked in English. Natalie looked up at the moon. It was the first night of a full moon, and although he hadn't changed in a long time, she was always slightly nervous this time of the month. She had known his little secret for some time now. Oz didn't want secrets between them. Natalie simply didn't care if he was a werewolf, were-tiger, or were-rat. She loved the man he was. Natalie brushed her lips against his; her warm sweet breath met his. The two kissed passionately.
-
Faith, Wood, and Andrew walked down the road. All three wore filthy torn clothes and looked half dead. They had expected a fight with a strong demon in those tunnels, but what they got was far more than they had anticipated. Whatever that thing was, they had been forced to play by its rules. Its strength was beyond measure and nothing seemed to hurt it. None of them were kidding themselves. They had all seen the hundreds of dead demon bodies littering the floor of the now extinct subterranean city. That thing, they knew, had taken all those lives. But now, it was crushed beneath the ground. Still, Andrew remained very quiet, much more so than his usual self.
"What is it, Andrew?" asked Wood.
"Yah, that thing didn't hurt you, did it?" Faith added.
"Oh, um, no. I'm fine. I just was wondering if that thing is really dead. Because in the movies, stuff like that never actually kills the monster. They always come back."
"Yes," said Wood, "but even if it is still alive, it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I don't care how strong it is. It's trapped."
"Don't sweat it, Andy," Faith said, "This isn't a movie. I'm sure the Robo-freak has seen his last sunset. We won, we may not have beaten it, but we lived. That's close enough to winning for me."
"That's not what's got me thinking, Faith," Andrew replied.
"Then what is it?" asked Wood. Andrew just kept walking. He placed his hands in his pockets, a slight smile played on his face.
"Oh nothing," he said casually, "It's just been a crazy night. Got a lot on my mind. Thinking long vacation. Maybe Japan"¦ or Italy." His attitude was slightly different than earlier in the day, much calmer and collected.
"I know what you mean, pal," said Faith. "Most of the slayers have been found, everything's changing"¦ it feels like we are, what"¦ growing up."
"People have a tendency to do that," said Robin.
"What's that?" Andrew asked pointing down the road. Nearly a hundred vehicles, painted in camouflage formed a procession coming down the road while several helicopters flew overhead.
"Oh, crap," said Faith, "it's the army."

She breathed heavily. Rene knew she had slammed the door, but she never touched it. She shook from loneliness. The memories she confiscated from Xander were comforting, but left her with a sense of loss greater than before she first took them. She wanted more. They were infinitely better than the collage of misery and disgust that she remembered of her own life.
Rene tried to remember before. Before the Quartoth. Before Rishaka. But the memories were gone, lost to oblivion. She wished she could stop crying, but she couldn't cease the flow of tears. Misery was what she was; it was part of her being. Besides, she still had many doubts as to if she was not just dreaming the relief of Earth. Curled on the floor, she cried. Chill night air lowered the temperature in the room, reminding Rene of the smashed window. Sniffling, she walked over to it. She glanced back to the door. She could sense Xander just on the other side. Turning back to the window, she began to climb out to the ledge.
The ledge was narrow and the wind was blowing hard up at this height. Rene stepped on the shards of glass. They sliced at her feet, but she didn't notice. Thirty-two thousand years has a way of desensitizing you to pain. She held onto the wall as she peered down at the ground three stories below. Vertigo overtook her and she sailed, headfirst, to meet the cement.
-
Oz ran his hand through Natalie's hair. It was now or never, he thought. He had the ring in the pocket of his jeans.
"Natalie." He said.
"Yes Oz?" She spoke in English.
"You know that you mean more to me than I can describe"¦ right?" He played with a box in his pocket. It wasn"expensive ring, but it was hers for the taking. "I feel like we can talk about anything.
"Yes, you too."
"Good. I wanted to make sure you knew that before"¦" he started nervously.
"Oz?"
"Yes?"
"I would love to marry you." Natalie smiled and leapt at him taking Oz in an embrace. They kissed for a while.
"Cool," he said, as their foreheads rested together.

Aww....so cute..Oz and Natalie together. Love how you show us more of Rene. She's becoming a role model to me😉

Part 30 - Risk Theory

A fuzzy numbness overtook Asylum. Death was here. It was the child's time now. Afraid of what waited for it, Asylum tried to run. Its body wouldn't respond. Lost in the crushing oblivion, Asylum slipped in and out of awareness. It tried to fire its engine again and again, but to no avail.
Lofthre stood in the room, next to the orb.
"You worthless sack of bolts"¦ GET UP!" he yelled at the idle juggernaut. Anger overtook the demon. "I will not have you waste my efforts because you couldn't stop playing with that infernal bird." His voice pierced the confusion that clouded Asylum's mind. Lofthre grabbed Asylum's hand and began to chant.
"I invoke the name of Ares, Lord of Bloodshed. Grant this vessel one final breath. My will be its will. My will be its will"¦" Purple energy arced from the red demon, coursing down its arm and through the golem's body. Its motor fired stridently to life. The demon released the hand. Asylum tensed its limbs and writhed from its earthen confines. It seemed as if they Earth spat out the abomination. Lying at Lofthre's feet, Asylum looked up at his savior. Joy replaced the fear.
Angrily, Lofthre cursed and spat in its demon tongue, "Get up, you damn scrap heap. Claim your power and fail me no more." Asylum got to its feet. Mud clung to the silver; the filth covered it like a second skin. Shaking its head, Asylum took awkward steps towards the shimmering orb.
"Take it, and you shall never know defeat again." Cruelty played on the Lofthre's lips. Asylum took the orb into its hands. Pain ceased, as did uncertainty and emotion. Steam shot out from the chest plates of the machine, opening a large hollow above the unbreakable motor. Instinctively, Asylum set it in place. Wires snaked out and latched into the orb. A large silver cover lay down over the top, sealing the glowing orb in place. Asylum felt power, more than it had ever felt before. It felt strength; its thoughts disappeared into a rush of vigorous might. Asylum was ready to play. Lofthre read its mind.
"Now, my child"¦ no one can ever take your strength from you. No one. Go play. Let the world know that Asylum has come to claim their lives. In response, Asylum fired its engine and jumped up into the soil above, gripping and smashing as it climbed towards the surface.
-
The first truck pulled up next to the three companions. Faith feared she was about to be on her way back to prison. Two soldiers got out, each brandishing a strange style of munitions. They looked like a thick riffle with two prongs at the end.
"Halt, they yelled. State your name."
"Robin Wood"
"Andrew"
"Sophia Picard," Faith said, embarrassed. More soldiers piled out of the truck, followed by the senior officer. One of the soldiers looked at her funny.
"Like the Captain of the Enterprise?" he asked. Andrew laughed a little.
"Faith?" came a voice from behind the crowd of men. A young man in uniform walked up to her. "What in the name of Hell are you doing here?" asked Major Riley Finn.
"Riley?" Faith's jaw dropped. "How did you get here so fast?"
"I think I asked you my question first," said Riley. He seemed to find little amusement in the fact that she was here.
"Giles sent us to help investigate a demon here." Wood and Andrew looked puzzled.
"You know this guy?" asked Wood. Riley shook his head.
"Yah, we've got a bit of a history together."
"I wouldn't exactly say sleeping with me in the body of my ex-girlfriend constitutes a "history"," Riley said, his displeasure was evident. Wood looked at Faith in amused shock.
"Guess you were a bad girl when you were younger."
"What can I say? I'm a wild child. So what bring G I Joe here?"
"We were sent in to investigate demon activity in the industrial district of Cleveland. Saw the explosions from town. You know, last I knew, you weren't exactly fighting for the good guys. Heard you broke out of prison."
"Actually, I was broken out. There's a difference. Besides, I helped bring back the sun to LA, so give me some credit. Wasn't really a vacation."
"Sir." Another soldier walked up to Major Finn, saluting. Riley returned the salute. "They have called out a force of F-16's to investigate the strike zone before we can enter. Our orders are to hold back until we have clearance, sir," said the soldier.
"Good," Riley said to Faith, "I will have time to find out why you are here, then."
-
The four of them sat in the back of an empty truck, each wore a rough blanket. Faith guzzled from a bottle of water, after she finished telling her account of the events of the day. Riley tried to process all that she had told him. Her hand in destroying the Sunnydale Hellmouth, the awakening of the slayers, and all she knew of the machine that had so thoroughly kicked the crap out of them.
"So, this thing really just plowed through solid rock?" asked the Major.
"Like paper, man," She responded. "Then it went all Red Dawn on us."
"So, then, that must explain why we picked up so much mystic energy when we checked for radiation," Riley realized. "But, you say it's not a demon"¦ then what is it."
"Well," added Andrew, "Thaddeus said it was some kind of toy."
"And, who's Thaddeus?" asked Riley.
"An archangel," Andrew said. Riley opened his mouth.
"A what?!"
"You know," said Wood, "wings, halo, hell of a right cross"¦ an angel."
"You have got to be kidding me."
"Said the same thing, myself," said Faith. Major Finn shook his head. Andrew just rested his on the canvas topper of the truck. He began to unscrew the lid to his water.
"And you said that the robot was"¦" Riley began.
"It wasn't a robot. It was something else." Andrew took a swallow of water.
"Fine then, whatever it was, it is indestructible."
"Seems that way," said Faith, chewing on her now blonde locks. "But now it is indestructibly buried at the center of the Earth. I'm pretty sure we have seen the last of it." The ground shook slightly, sounding like distant thunder. The trio's hearts fell at the same time. Shouts and ordes rang out mixing with the sounds of asphalt ripping free and rock being flung into the air. They all hopped out of the truck. The ground shuddered as something hit it from below. Trucks over the area were knocked in the air, tipping over and landing in the ditch. The road split and shifted as a large silver fist punched through.
"Guess you spoke too soon," said Wood.

I wonder how bad of a headache Rene will have?...lol...That's sooo sweet Oz & Natalie together forever!!....Hopefully the Army don't see Faith, cuz' she'd be in BIG trouble, but I think they have a bigger problem to worry about other than Faith.

Nice one..Riley was really Rileysh and now I remember why I don't like Fish boy-thanx for reminder🙂and Asylum gets more and more interesting

Ahhh....good-ole' Riley!...You were right, he does make sense.....Sophia Picard?..lol...that was funny!!....Asylum was great, can't wait to see what he's going to next!!

Part 31 - Lost In A Concrete Jungle

The ground rose up to crush Rene's face. She threw her hands out and screamed. Rene curled into a ball and closed her eyes waiting to crash into the sidewalk below. But the ground never came. Slowly, she opened a tear filled eye. Rene hovered inches from the ground, safe and sound. She let out a sigh. Panic gone, she fell the last few inches.
Rene picked herself up from the concrete and hid as best she could next to the wall. Nighttime activity filled the streets. Rene looked around at the many faces. She was covered in bandaged wounds, still crying, and wearing only pajamas. Some noticed her and gave puzzled looks, others continued on their merry way, oblivious to her presence. Barefoot and bleeding, the slayer ran to the seclusion of an alley.
-
Willow and Kennedy strolled up seconds later. Neither had seen Rene's daring escape. Both smiled as they opened the door to the apartment complex and entered.
-
Rene ran through the alley. The glass imbedded in her feet clicked against the ground with each step. She ran put of the alley and stopped as she nearly ran into a group of five well-dressed socialites walking down the avenue. One man looked at her like she was garbage. Another, a woman, gasped and said something in Italian, putting her hand on the young woman's shoulder. Rene felt her unabridged thoughts pour into her head. She saw that she was kind. She also felt extreme sexual degradation. The woman loved to be humiliated. She shrugged the woman's hand off and started running again.
The alleyway across the street offered her new shelter. Leaning next to a large trash bin, Rene knelt down. The sights and sounds were almost too much. She thought about her fall and the door that she closed between Xander and her.
"H-how d,d,did I do th-that?" she quietly contemplated. She picked up a rusting soup can and held it in the palm of her hand. Quickly moving her hand, the can fell to the ground with a clank. She picked it back up and tried to make it move. The can rattled around for a moment and jumped slightly, clattering to the pavement. She held out her hand. The tin skittered across the ground toward her then lifted up and came to her hand. She covered her mouth in horror.
"No no no no no," she cried out, "w, what am I?!" This shouldn't happen, she thought. I am in hell. It is a trick. More games. She bore her teeth and screamed. The can compressed into a small piece of crushed metal. Rene threw it down. She turned around to face the large bin. Still angry and confused she tried to do to it what she did to the can. The metal creaked and groaned. After a moment it began to shrivel, garbage popped out like it was fired from the barrel of a gun. Rene tore at her hair and beat her hands against her skull. She became sickened with herself. She couldn't stay. Onlookers began to form in the street.
-
The two young ladies entered the apartment to see Xander sitting on the floor, his head on his knees.
"Oh my God, Xander. Are you okay?" Willow asked as she ran to his side. He looked up at her. She couldn't begin to read the expression on his face.
"Not quite."
"What happened?" Kennedy ran over to them. Xander shook his head.
"I-I don't quite know. One minute, I am checking on Our Lady of the Perpetual Misery, then she tried to kill me, and then she tried to kiss me."
"What?" asked Willow.
"I think she has some sort of Carrie power because she slammed the door in my face without touching it. Neat party trick, by the way, scary as hell too" said Xander.
"Oh, no," Willow said with concern, "She must be so confused. I'll go check on her." Willow opened the door to Dawn's bedroom. "Oh Goddess!" she said.
-
Rene ran over cobblestone streets. She looked around at the progress of man. Fireless lamps, horseless buggies, and music without instruments; all were things she saw in shared memories, and yet now, standing in front of them, they all seemed more real. And less. Her stomach started to growl again. She hid behind a parked car.
"Sh-shut up." She clutched at it, hoping to quell the sounds. She had been following her nose to the smells of food without realizing it. The scents tantalized her. In her mind, she flashed back to the image of being back in the Quartoth, nailed to a post with food spread out before her. Look but don't touch, right? Want, but can't have? Hunger, but never be filled. Suffering is all there is.
Running from behind the car, Rene hugged the wall of a building as she rounded the back. Alluring steam passed from vents. She sniffed at them, as though just inhaling it would suffice. It only served to harden the cramping in her gut. She ducked low as a man dressed in stained, white clothing carried a pot out to the garbage. He whistled a tune while he threw out the food. Rene's eyes widened as she waited for him to leave. When he entered the building again she easily jumped into the dumpster and began to feed, hungrily eating at the old cuisine.
"What have we here?" She nearly choked as her heart jumped as she held herself as low as she could. A brown scaly demon in ragged clothes looked at her with murderous loathing. "You people take our world and now think you can take the scraps you throw us away!" Demon. Rene was terrified. "That's right little girl, you should be scared. Looks like I'll be eating like a king tonight."
-
Willow ran out the downstairs door of the apartment building, Xander and Kennedy right behind her. Kennedy looked down at the broken glass and the blood trail that led away. It stopped on the other side of the street.
"One thing about Spike. I may not miss the damn smoking, but I do miss the tracking by blood thing he did," said Kennedy.
"She can't have gotten too far," said Xander, "it's only been fifteen minutes." Willow glared at him. She was not too pleased at the moment.
"Damn it Xander," Kennedy said, nearly reading Willow's mind, "You were suppose to be watching her so that she wouldn't go anywhere." Xander didn't think he could feel worse than he did already. He was wrong.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I was just freaked out." Willow shook her head, releasing some of her disappointment.
"I understand"¦ but how do you think she feels right now," said Willow, pointing. Let's"¦ let's just find her." Willow stretched out her hand and summoned forth a locator speck. Getting an image of the slayer in mind, she said, "Take me to Rene." The speck flew forward after her wake. They followed it through alley after alley; every now and again they would find a small pool of blood where she had stopped.
They ran around a building, in pursuit of the spell, when they all came to a screeching halt. Rene stood on the top of a garbage bin; a nasty looking demon was flying back and forth through the air. It was smashed into one wall after another, green blood poured from its infinite wounds. Rene looked at them. The demon stopped its violent flight and drifted lazily in midair.
"K-kill me, p-please," it begged. A look of sheer rage crossed Rene's face as she raised her arms up. The demon screamed in agony as each limb ripped free their joints. Its jade colored blood rained down. Body parts fell in a heap. Willow, Xander, and Kennedy stood there with mouths agape for long moments.
"I-I-I kill th-the m, monsters," Rene said at last.
"Oh goddess," said Xander.

WHOA! I'd like a power like that...

Well, if Rene turns on the Scoobies, it'd be MUCH harder to defeat her...

OH! IS RENE GOING TO HELP THADDUES KILL ASYLUM?

Part 32 - War and Pieces

~Sorry about the wait folks. Superflu.. Captain Tripps.. nuff said. This part was VERY touchy, military stuff is REALLY hard to write. If you read it, please, please respond, I have no idea if it is very good... no.. really. Hope you all enjoy.

It slowly rose up from the ruined blacktop. Asylum, covered in compacted mud and filled with fury, stretched its arms out. It looked down at the tiny toy soldier as they readied their weapons. Three little men ran at the towering beast with tonfa sticks in hand. They were ordered to hold back. They stopped mere feet in front of it. The juggernaut simply stood over them, its arms folded. The machine waited. The soldiers under Major Finn's command waited, all were ready to give this hostile hell before sending it back there.
A slip in the fabric of reality behind one soldier opened. A red clawed hand grabbed him and yanked him in unceremoniously. A moment later, another rift opened again and one of the soldier's now bloody grenades was thrown at Asylum's feet. It exploded without the force needed to budge its sizable frame. Several infantry were severely injured. Asylum fired into action, blasting away dozens of men in single strokes.
Riley's men fired the standard tazer rifles that worked well to incapacitate hostiles. Asylum hardly noticed. One soldier held his ground, shaking as the silver golem brought doom down upon him, his com-cam recording his final moments for posterity.
"Sir, zap-n-trap's not doing us any good," cried one of another soldier over his radio.
"Then switch to hard ordinance"¦ kill the son of a *****!" came Riley from the other side. They switched to their XM29 assault rifles, highly advanced bursting munitions rifles. Others brandished powerful Army shotguns and 55 cal handguns. Their gunfire pinged off the golem's body, cascading like a metallic waterfall. They shouted and screamed, as they continued their useless assault. Several rushed forward, tossing tiny canisters. Each exploded with great force at Asylum's feet. The machine looked down at the detonations, and then fired its engine. Asylum had not felt power so intoxicating before. Where previously it felt strong, it now felt as a god. It knew that its form had further hardened and it now weighed much more, closer to thirty tons. Not that it slowed it down any. If anything, Asylum had become a smidge faster.
It ran forward, plowing through the ranks of infantry, crushing and smashing as it went. Their Kevlar offered no resistance to the force of its blows. Asylum stopped and swung its arms around fast and hard. Screams were lost in the impact of silver and flesh.
-
"This is getting really ugly," said Faith. They stood just outside of the truck they sat in moments before.
"This has already gotten ugly," Major Finn shot back. He had never seen a demon or war machine take out so many fine soldiers in such short time. And still, they hadn't even put a scratch on it hide. "Unload the Abrams from the lifts," he yelled into the radio. "Which way do you think it's gonna go?" he asked, genuinely concerned for the safety of the civilian lives in Cleveland.
"Nowhere, till it kills all of us," Andrew said from the background. He was looking not at Asylum, but the smiling visage of Warren on the other side of the quickly building massacre, running his finger across his neck. He dropped to his rear and placed his hands on his head. He knew that it was the First and not Warren he saw.
"Okay, shrimp, this is no time to sit," Faith said, more than a little exasperated. She hoisted him up by his arm roughly.
"Uh, Faith," he said, pointing to Warren, "We've got more company."
"Oh... why not say hello to my favorite little warriors," The First said, materializing as Buffy to the rest of them." The feminine form strolled through the battle field as though it were a rose garden. As it approached the four, Asylum punched downward on top of the First Evil, driving its fist three feet into the ground. After retracting its fist, the "Buffy" said, "Do you mind, I am not bothering you am I?" Asylum became distracted by a few remaining soldiers drawing its attention from their commander. The First continued to approach.
"Now this is what I like to see, senseless violence. The thought of, No Virginia, daddy won't be coming home tonight," said the Buffy clone sadistically. Riley was thrown by this new figure. Her appearance was strikingly identical to the girl he once loved and still cared for. Her demeanor was not.
"Faith, how?" was all he could muster.
"Oh"¦ damn it! I should have known," she said to the smiling visage of the First. The First merely giggled.
"Oh, you think this is all me, do you?" The First shook her head.
"Got yer name written all over it."
"You should really get to know your enemy better, little girl. This drips with the king of warfare's style, the whole doomsday device "thing". Not really my thing. But I do have to admit, he's got panache coming out his rear. This is the most entertainment I have seen in a while."
"Especially since your last show ended with us shoving your plans down your throat." Faith snapped back. The First growled sardonically, and disappeared.
"King of War, huh," said Wood, "going to have to remember that. Behind him, Major Finn mobilized air support. Perhaps this thing was bullet proof, but how would it fare against heavy weaponry.
-
Twelve miles away, in Cleveland, children played stickball in the streets. Life continued as usual around them. The soft rumble of Asylum's motor could be heard even on the edges of the city. Their game was interrupted by the sounds of jet engines blasting overhead. The children looked to the sky as several squadrons of F-14's took off from the air force base to meet up with the recon team sent a few minutes ago, twelve AH 64A Apache helicopters lifted off the ground to join the fray.
-
Only a handful of the eight hundred men that comprised Riley's special demon busters squadron remained alive. Asylum had become bored with the people and had now begun tearing apart the transport trucks. Terrified, all on the field, but the titanic child, lay in scared heaps anywhere that offered the illusion of safety. Riley, Faith, Wood, and Andrew now took cover behind an overturned transport truck.
"Well, we've got our anti-armor helicopters coming," said Riley, nearly defeated.
"And what are they gonna do, Rambo? Bake it a cake? It shrugs everything off like it's been scotch guarded against damage," countered Faith.
"I have learned that anything can be brought down with the judicious application of firepower." He said with a smirk. Faith scoffed.
"He's got a point," said Wood, "maybe we can stop it right here and now."
"You men, always thinking force solves everything." Both Wood and Riley looked at her.
Simultaneously they said, "And since when did slayers not?" Faith rolled her eyes and then glanced up over the edge of the truck. She let out a small sound, like a mouse. A foot and a half away Asylum stared her straight in the face.
"Run!" she screamed. They all ran out in one direction, Andrew ran another.
"Hey, you big"¦ Transformer," he reached for an insult, "come get some!"
"Andrew, no!" Faith stopped and screamed. She was caught and drug away by Riley and Wood. Asylum looked back and forth between the two targets.
"Your not even cool enough to be a Transformer"¦ you, uh, you'd be more like a Gobot. They were Americanized attempt at the Transformers. What I am saying is"¦ YOU SUCK!" With that he started running again Asylum's massive body took off after the single running toy. Andrew now new he was going to die. As he ran, he tried to make his peace with whatever was waiting for him. Asylum played with him, dashing from his left to his right. Some steps came within an inch of Andrew's delicate feet. Sometimes the golem patted him roughly on the rump, warning him to pick up the pace. To Asylum, it was all just a game. It was not aware of the truth. It suffered a magically distorted version of the world. Everything was a game.
"I"¦ huff"¦ am never"¦ puff"¦ gonna be"¦ the"¦" He ducked down under a lazy swing from the immense arm of the golem. "Bait!" he finished on his knees. Asylum turned around to face its quarry, to end this particular game. Asylum grabbed a nearby truck, lifting all its weight like a club over its head. Andrew stretched his arms out.
"Please," he muttered to himself, "make it quick." Wood and Faith yelled out Andrew's name as the titan began to bring the full weight of the truck crashing down on top of him.
-
BOOM!
Asylum was knocked hard on its back. The M1 Abrams had fired the stunning blow. The truck crashed down behind Andrew. He opened his eyes slowly, thinking he was already dead. Asylum lay in front of him. Andrew jumped to his feet, laughing hysterically.
"Someone really loves me up there!" he screamed out in joy. "Who got his ass kicked?" Andrew said in singsong, with a cheesy little dance, as he turned to taunt the golem. "You got your ass kicked! Who got his ass kicked? You got you're"¦" Asylum slowly got to its feet, completely undamaged. Andrew's expression changed. "Never mind." He started running away from the rising titan.
Asylum didn't care. It now had a toy that would last more than a second. Asylum began its charge. The next round was fired from the tank's 120 mm bore cannon and Asylum was sent spinning. The titan smashed into the ground leaving a shallow crater from its built power. Perpetual momentum must go somewhere. The tank circled and kept its distance, the crew not stupid enough to get too close to something that shrugs off a direct hit to the chest. Once the civilian had cleared, the four man crew fired in a couple of smoke grenades, standard to cloak the Abrams heat signature from the enemy. Asylum rose back up to a crouch, undaunted and very angry. My turn, it thought. It tapped the rune on its forearm, melding the silver to a drill bit. Asylum activated its sensitive hearing.
A slight shuffling sound followed by muffled voices. The titan leapt forward at the tank. Screams came from inside. Its silver drill bit chewed through the anti-artillery armor easily. Asylum punched at the tank, shredding metal with each blow. The barrel of the cannon was bent, rendered useless. Asylum fired its engine as it lifted the vehicle above its head. It weighed twice as much as it did, but Asylum had no difficulty in the task. Revving its motor again, the titan drove the tank into the ground further shredding the strong metal of the Abrams. It no longer heard sounds from inside the tank, which lay half imbedded in the soil. It stood on its side like a marker for the brave men who died needlessly inside. Then, Asylum kicked the tank well over a thousand yards away.
In the distance, Asylum heard round two approach, as the sounds of jet engines came into its phenomenal earshot.

Part 33 - The Tail

Giles secured the leather case as Jenny exited the restroom of the bistro. Their meals, well, Jenny's meal, was finished, fee and tip paid. The two left the quaint restaurant, under the dark night sky, lit by the pale light of the full moon. As they rounded the boulevard, Jenny slowly threaded her hand to entwine Giles'. He did not seem to mind one bit, in fact, adding his own pressure to the equation. The night air was cool and breezy; Jenny pulled her silk scarf around her neck tightly to keep the cold at bay. The sounds of night life resounded with a malevolent innocence around the two.
-
Across the boulevard, three wicked demons masked as drunken partygoers stumbled along in an endeavor to tail Rupert and Jenny. Occasionally the three cast vile looks towards them. Their employer, Oladrick, had taken a sudden interest in their studies. The name Rene Laroche was one he had not heard in many years. He was truly intrigued, and was quite interested to know what this Rupert Giles knew. The demons had been instructed to not let their quarry on to their presence, under any circumstance.
-
"Rupert?"
"Yes." Ms. Calendar was silent for a few moments.
"It, it's nothing," she said, at last. Giles stopped and faced her. A warm and loving smile crossed his face. Giles seemed to know what she was having great difficulty in saying, and Jenny started to realize. She was not making it difficult to read her face.
"Jenny, whatever it is"¦ you can tell me. You know that, don't you?" She nodded her head.
"I just really want you to"¦" she said. Giles' attention was diverted to across the street, to a form walking in a seemingly unbreaking darkness. He lightly pushed her to the side.
"Jenny, wait here," he said as he dashed across the street toward the now fleeing figure. As he reached the other side, mystic sparks flew out as the ground became unnaturally slippery. Giles skidded to the ground as the mystic grease spread out. The spell eventually encompassed the dark form, tripping it up as well. The being fell with a dull "Owe". Jenny sprinted after, stopping outside of the radius of the enchantment. She approached to help Giles to his feet. He put his hand out to stop her from entering the spell.
"Damn it all to bloody hell," said the form as the previous darkening spell ceased, revealing Ethan Rayne. Both Giles and Jenny's faces filled with surprise. Giles' expression then turned to one of understanding and rage. Giles tried, unsuccessfully, to stand, the spell stripping all traction from the pavement below him.
"You Pillock, I should have guessed as much! You've been working with that damn law firm."
"Oh, come on Ripper, I thought you'd be happy to see an old friend. It has been a few years." Both Rupert and Ethan struggled to stand, both slipping on the mystical lubricant. Giles chuckled angrily to himself, fighting to get his hands on the warlock.
"Oh, I am glad to see you"¦ I still owe you the thrashing of a lifetime for last time we met." A small audience of onlookers gathered at the spectacle of two seemingly drunk men, neither of which gaining a foothold, trying to brawl.
"Well, I did try to give you a new perspective on your life. You did say the demons weren't giving you a second thought." Slowly, the two slid free from the enchantment. Jenny gave Giles a hand up, Ethan used a street sign. He stood opposite of the greased concrete to Giles.
"Can you give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip your head off right here?" Giles asked furiously. Ethan stood for a moment, and then smiled.
"For one, you are not a Fyarl demon, so no aggressive tendencies." Giles crossed over to face Ethan, who, in turn, moved to keep distance between them.
"You never really knew me, you burke. I never needed that as a reason when it comes to you," said Rupert. Giles bunched his fists and moved to attack his old nemesis. Jenny grabbed his arm, a pleading look in her eyes.
"Please no, Rupert."
"Yes Ripper," Ethan said smiling, "listen to the lady. No violence is needed" Jenny shot him with a venomous look.
"Don't think for a second that I don't remember you, Mr. Rayne. It was because of you that I was possessed by that demon. And now, I am pretty damn sure you had something to do with ripping me out of heaven. There is nothing about you that I don't want to see beaten, you selfish *******. Just not here." Ethan's smirk dropped.
-
Down the road, the demons acted as though one of them had drunk itself to illness. Lurched over a mailbox, the demon quavered with false heaves. The waited for their intended prey to continue on, leading them to their residence. It simply seemed like that wouldn't happen soon. The spies chattered in their native tongue, deciding on a new course of action.
-
"Well Ripper, what are you planning on now? Are you going to keep it civil?" Ethan Rayne asked. Giles looked at him contemptuously.
"Are you going to give me any reason to?" Ethan laughed.
"Well, I do have information that I am sure you would be dying to know," the warlock said, indicating Ms. Calendar. Both Giles and Jenny looked interested as to what the reasoning for her resurrection was.
"Spill it then," said Giles. Ethan shook his head.
"Not here. Over a pint. My treat," said the warlock.
"Fine then," said Jenny and Giles, together.
"I really do need to not stick around for the aftermath," Ethan said to himself.
-
"All I know is that they hired me as an advisor. Someone who'd really know where the home to hit you at would be," said Ethan. They sat in a nearby bar. He poured himself another glass of beer. Many rough looking patrons.
"So, let me get this straight. The London branch hired you simply to tell them what would keep me distracted? And this was a month ago?" Giles sipped at his glass of lager. Jenny listened intently. She had barely been aware of things when she first had been brought back. To her, it seemed closer to a week since she had been restored.
"Well, not only. I also researched the rites for the process. They had a similar method already, but that was for resurrecting a vampire as a human."
"What was different about this time?" Giles questioned.
"Oh, nothing really," said Ethan, "it is difficult to bring a human who dies a natural death back as something more than just a zombie. It is easier to restore a vampire. At least their first death isn't a natural one."
"So, what else?" added Jenny. "What's to gain from all of this?"
"They did offer me a boat load of power, plus, I do like throwing your life into a touch of chaos, Ripper. Also, there is a little matter of three months of probing and testing by those military boys in Nevada to repay. I still have nightmares."
"I can't express how much I don't care," the watcher said, absently.
"What do Wolfram and Hart have to gain from bringing me back?" Jenny was nearly in tears.
"Slayers. They want to build a small mercenary army of slayers; they are looking to branch out. With you rebuilding your precious little council, they have had a hard time recruiting them, but with you preoccupied with Ms. Calendar"¦"
"They will have more ready access to the new slayers," Giles realized. Suddenly Giles wanted to hit Ethan really hard about the facend shoulders. Rupert and Jenny felt their eyes grow heavy, like a deep sleep was forcing itself upon them.
"Wh, what's happening?" Giles asked muddled. Jenny's head went down hard on the table. As Giles followed in suit, he heard Ethan gloat, "And you should have learned by now to not drink with me."

Finally🙂 Really can't wait to read what's going to happen next..and I demand some Rene action😉
