when Willow started to turn evil i don't think it happened very realistically, it starts by her telling Giles "mabye you shouldn't piss me off" when he is saying how powerfull she is and also when tara asks "what do you want me to do? just sit back and shut up?" she says "that'd be a good start" when she said those things it sounded so unlike her, i couldn't beleve it

Everyone has their darkside. It is all a matter of control it. Of course, it really doesn't help when you can't control your powers, and your girlfriend unexpectedly bites the dust. Look at what happened at Anakin Skywalker. You have the most powerful Jedi ever--so powerful so much that he doesn't know what he his capable of doing for his own good--the next thing you know he's Darth Vader. The same can be said of Ripper, Anya the Vengenance Demon, Faith, and Oz. I would really hate to see Buffy like that. I mean Faith was probably nothing compared to an evil Buffy. What was it that Bruce Banner used to say, "you wouldn't like it when I'm angry."

I think that Alyson's acting was good in making the change more believable, but I don't think it suited Willow's character. It's more believable after Tara's dead, although still not like her, but when she first started to act differently she hadn't gone through the whole addiction thing yet and Tara hadn't left her, and I don't think it seemed very realistic.
anya and oz were different thought, he was a werewolf "the wolf takes over" and she was a demon (do they have souls?) what throws me is that willow can be so sweet and nice, then they totally warp the character into someone who tries kills her friends. The thing with faith is interesting though, one of the writers said that she was supposed to be a reflection of what buffy would have been like if she hadn't had support from her friends

i agree, alysons good acting did make it more believable, but it was just so.. unwillowish!! lol. from wooly-pink-jumper-willow, to kill-all-friends-willow!! madness! 😛

Alyson's acting made it better but it was weird beacuse Willow was so sweet and nice. When Tara died I think it was believable(because she loved her so much) but was still really weird because it was so unlike Willow.
Im glad she went back to normal (kinda) again though!

not only did her acting make it realistic, but the fact that they didnt try to make it seem normal that willow was being a bitca, like everytime she said one of the aforementioned comments, whoever she said it to looked shokced
so they all kinda got forewarning
and so did we thankgod if theyd just dropped evil willow on me like that i may have had a heartattack
i think all the colour stuff helped her portrayal too, nothing like a visual to get you spooked

and i know she's FIcTIONAL so for the people in that reality itd be terrible

I think it's realstic. I mean she have a lot of power and then she lost Tara, she just went crazy.

I don't think that she got crazy...she just finally realized that she has so much power and that she couldn't do anything with it. Tara's death brought out the fact that she should couldn't do anything to stop Tara's dying because it would be an abuse of that power. She just asked herself what's the use of power when you cannot use it. Might doesn't make right. What was it that Anakin said? "One day I'll be the most powerful Jedi ever. So powerful that I can stop people from dying." And we all know what happened then. Once Willow gave into her magics she thought that she was a god, and that simple notions of right/wrong were irrelevant.
As for Oz and Anya--I wasn't speaking literally but figuratively. Oz doesn't like the fact that he is a werewolf mainly because he could hurt someone he loves, and Anya realized especially with this episode just because she is a powerful demon, she could do something that she regrets--like hurt Xander whom she is still in love with.
The same can be said with Angel and Spike. Here you have two demons who were vicious in the days' past(and they reveled in it)but once they got their souls back, they realized what they did and they were not happen campers. I mean they tortured and killed hundreds just for folly, and they are just starting to atone what they did.
As for Giles and Faith, these are people who are also in touch with their dark-sides and try to hide it as best they can because they don't like the things that they do when they are that way. Buffy herself even denies the fact that she has a darkside--the power of the first slayer. Without Giles and the others keeping her in check, she would be nothing more than a killing machine.

That's a very valid point, gman992. It points out that Willow turning evil actually was realistic. I agree that Willow probably reasoned 'what's the point of having such power if it isn't used'. Thus she gave in and at that point didn't care whether others died.
On the other hand, I think the writers could have done a better job of making the transition more believable from cute, geeky Willow to mega-powerful, scary Willow. So I see where everyone else is coming from. Perhaps if the writers had made a better transition it would have been more believable. I don't really think Alyson's acting had anything to do with making Willow's transition less believable (Boy, do I need a thesaurus right now). Just something to think about... 😀
