Animus
I'm one of those people who think that "Anywhere But Here" was pivotal in the Willow/Buffy dynamic.
And one thing that always strikes me about that book (besides the awesome cover and blue color) is Willow telling Kennedy that she's "protecting" her from Buffy.
Jeez, no wonder Buffy's always feeling alone. Not that she's necessarily yearning to be Kennedy's gal-pal but I mean c'mon Willow....this is your best friend! and you yourself are alienating her from people. Because you're so afraid of death?
That's a bunch of....well, boo-hockey. And I didn't like mopey Willow in that issue. It was a disgrace to the bond of the Core 4 and the sisterly bond of Buffy and Willow.
Is this why Slayers aren't supposed to have friends? Because of the danger (I never got that during the first few seasons cause Buffy's friends weren't dropping dead).
And maybe this is why too many Slayers are a menace to society...they increase the danger. Because death surrounds them...they cause death.
I never saw this coming at the end of season 7. Such a happy ending.
I wish Buffy's life were easier. She's such a lovely girl, I always picture her in one of those long spring-colored coats with a flower in her hair.
But wait, she can't be connected to people because they die, or turn evil or get their eye poked out or grow into annoying brats who morph.
Blah...
I just am frustrated.
It's like in season 2 when Buffy was talking to Ms. Calendar...
"I don't want him to be lonley...I don't want anyone to be."
Even with that huge gushing heart...she still has to be.
ick. how cruel the world is to good guys.
