Willows feelings towards friends.

Ok so I just watched the season 6 finale, where willow went crazy, ok fair enough Tara was her lover, she loved her, and she went mad. Fair enough.

Straight after, I watched the harvest, 2nd ep of season 1. Jesse gets turned into a vampire, and she basically shrugs it off, saying "oh well, at least you two are ok" (to Xander and Buffy)! I don't get it, I mean i'm not new to buffy, but i'm no expert. Could someone fill me in?? Was willows and jesse's friendship not that deep or what?

I honestly can't remember right this second, LOL. But whatever it was, her and Tara were obviously so much closer, and she was going to react with a lot more emotion.
 
yeah obviously, but she didn't even show any emotion for Jesse, were they even friends? or was he just Xanders friend??
 
Well, I don't think that Joss wanted to darken the episode with all this greiving, it was the pilot after all. Jesse's death was supposed to be unexpected, Willow was probably in a state of shock. She just find out vampires are real, everything she thought about the world was basically wrong, her new friend is a type of superhero, and her other friend has turned into a vampire. I know I would be shocked.

Plus, she and Jesse were not that close.
 
Well Jesse and Willow seemed to be just school friends, not really as close as Willow and Xander would have been and I think Willow was more niave at that point, didn't really take it all in. Tara on the other hand was her lover, her first girlfriend, she stated more than once that she trusted her more than anyone and you seen how upset she was when Tara went crazy in season 5 , by season 6 bonds have grown even stronger and at the point of Tara's death Willow is so glad to have her back and then Tara gets taken away from her for good so obviously shes going to be completely heartbroken and vengeful. Add in an addcition to magic that was non exsistent in Season 1 and I can kind of understand how Willow reactd very differently
 
With Dark Willow, what you had was all-this pent-up rage that Willow had repressed throughout the years brought upon by the way people treated her. When she lost Tara through Warren, she finally had a way to deal with that rage--through vengeance and hatred ala' magic-- and it consumed her. So much so her own friends didn't matter anymore. Even Giles--a person whom she looked up as a father figure who probably respected her more(than her own parents)for who she was--both as a young woman and as a witch--didn't even matter. Giles knew that probably the only person that she wouldn't harm would be Xander whom she had the closest relationship with so he teleported him to stop her.


WILLOW: You can't stop this.
XANDER: Yeah, I get that. It's just, where else am I gonna go? You've been my best friend my whole life. World gonna end ... where else would I want to be?
WILLOW: (scornfully) Is this the master plan? You're going to stop me by telling me you love me?
XANDER: Well, I was going to walk you off a cliff and hand you an anvil, but ... it seemed kinda cartoony.
WILLOW: Still making jokes.
XANDER: I'm not joking. I know you're in pain. I can't imagine the pain you're in. And I know you're about to do something apocalyptically (glancing back at the statue) evil and stupid, and hey. (spreading out his arms) I still want to hang. You're Willow.
WILLOW: (angry) Don't call me that.
XANDER: First day of kindergarten. You cried because you broke the yellow crayon, and you were too afraid to tell anyone. You've come pretty far, ending the world, not a terrific notion. But the thing is? Yeah. I love you. I loved crayon-breaky Willow and I love ... scary veiny Willow. So if I'm going out, it's here. If you wanna kill the world? Well, then start with me. I've earned that.
WILLOW: (upset) You think I won't?
XANDER: It doesn't matter. I'll still love you.
 
oh yeah, i mean i get why she went crazy over Tara, but don't get it why she didn't do much when Jesse died, though that may have been cleared up...
 
Jesse was just meant to die. He was just a school friend. A disposable character, like the red shirts on the original Star Trek. If you recall, Xander was busted up over him, Willow was just in shock over everything. Willow was still in her "softer side of Sears" phase.

I agree they weren't realistic, but I'm willing to let it slide. Suspension of disbelief. If we're willing to accept vampires and Hellmouths and whatnot, why not Willow's underwhelming reaction to Jesse vamping out and dying? Just my opinion. I totally see what you're saying, though.

I am sure that they grieved for Jesse, but it just wasn't necessary to the flow of the story....

Maybe if they had a DVD version with deleted scenes they would show it...
 
lol...one deleted scene would be a group cry in which they would all hug and console one another..it would be titled... "Remembering Jesse"...lol
 
Maybe it's just me, but I thought of Willow's grief as much a reflection of that of the audience; when Tara died, the audience would have felt that, similarly when Buffy died, when anyone got hurt. Jesse was an almost unknown to the audience, and as a reflection of that simply wans't mourned in the same way. Possibly far too simplistic, but it's the way I thought of it
 
i know, even Xander didnt seem that bothered about..cause if my best mate died i wouldnt just be stood there, i been in tears either running away or on the floor crying.
 
she loved tara more than she has loved everything before.. she gave up magic for her and magic is what made her special to everyone.
