So I have to set up network a trio of Windows 10 computers in the morrow. The last Windows product I used was probably Windows 95.

Anyone use Windows 10 for business networking? Anyone use Windows 10 period? Is there much difference?

I need to connect all three of them to the network, download Office for Business and get their emails set up... in under two hours. Happy Friday.

That should be doable shouldnt it? And why cant microsoft be as easy as a mac?
 
I don't use Windows 10 for business, but I use Windows 10 at home and Windows 7 for business. Difference wise there's not much between a home and a business set-up, you get things like Remote Desktop for business that you don't get for home, but otherwise they're pretty similar.

I would say you should be able to do all of what you need in under two hours. Windows installations and set ups aren't as convoluted as they used to be. It's all pretty straightforward now.

Uh huh. We'll see. I haven't seen a windows screen in since forever.. They arent still 'split' are they? I mean one screen for the tiles and one screen for normal windows? Or can everything be ran from the tiles screen now? Do you know what I am talking about?
 
They learned their lesson from Windows 8! It's just desktop in Windows 10. You can switch it to full screen tiles if you wish, but I choose not.

Your part of the install goes pretty quickly but once it starts replacing stuff in memory, the total install is about three hours. I don't see much difference from Windows 7 as far as operation is concerned but Windows 10 boots up a little faster than Windows 7 ever did, so I am happy with that. It does try to prevent you from using Java, if that is important. You get Edge as the replacement for Internet Explorer but I am still on Explorer as Edge seems a bit user-hostile. If you have to download Office for Business, you are going to exceed the allotted time.

They are all brand new computers with 10 preinstalled.. I just need to set them up on the network and do the Office download and get Outlook up and running.

Then you have a chance of meeting your schedule. I have the starter version of Office but I downloaded Open Office and it seems to work quite well for most things, but I can understand if you need genuine Microsoft.
 
I was surprised. The laptops were garbage but I knew that, just Windows 10 I actually kinda liked. Only used it for a few hours but I did not hate it as I thought I would have. They 'borrowed' many elements of OSX though. It feels pretty similar. And boy! It was much easier than they used to be to set-up and network them.

I've avoided Windows 10 and still on 7 so I can't comment on how good or bad it is. I would hope they would get better but then look at the mess that was Vista. Windows Vista destroyed a fair few laptops in my house, just out of sheer frustration.

I wish Apple computers were a bit cheaper, I was taught computers on the old Apple Macintosh. I think a lot of schools had a deal with Apple.
 
I use Windows 10 at my office and I actually like it a lot; I upgraded from Windows 8, which I didn't mind either. I loathed Vista. Windows 10 is easy for what I use my computer for. Now, every time I get around an Apple product I have an urge to throw it out a window or run it over with my car.
 
I think Windows 10 looks and works remarkable...unless you have a wireless mouse or keyboard...or need for everything you plug into your usb ports to work. 😉
 
I do like Windows 10, but I've had a few issues with the 7->10 upgrade process. I mean, it'll never be perfect for everyone, but I had to uninstall and reinstall a few programs to sort the issue out.

And... if I want to do a clean install, I can't use the tool within Windows to revert to clean, because when I do it won't recognise any of my keyboard or mouse inputs.... wired, wireless, whatever. Just nothing. I'll need to create some media to do it, which is no big deal, just means I need to plan my clean installs.

But... other than that I'm really happy with 10. 🙂
 
I use both Windows 10 and Windows 7 on a regular basis.

I find Windows 10 much easier to use than Windows 8 and upgrading my computer from 8 to 10 was a breeze (same as with upgrading from 7 to 10).

Windows 10 has it's annoying quirks, but overall, it's Microsoft's best OS to date.
 
Windows 10 runs a whatsit that is incompatible with a whatever on my ten-year-old's Lenovo (I think it is) laptop. That incompatibility caused what I now know people call "blue screen of death" several times, with loss of everything (as in all his Minecraft progress, largely) as a result. I managed to google around enough to figure out what to do, and to do it, but now I totally fear installing the updates I see waiting in case I have to play computer literate again.

It's much easier with "my" computer. As it isn't mine, I can just hand it over to the IT people at work if it doesn't behave.
 
And just to prove how bloody slow I can be ... I didn't open this thread until now, since I couldn't be bothered to figure out what the DOH that could be won was.
 
Well it kinda needs to be better as they constantly backs themselves into a corners by all these new things, and the way they sholve it down the customers throats😉

That's one thing I don't thing they've managed well. Fair enough, give your upgrade away for free if you so wish, that's a good marketing ploy to get people to upgrade to the latest system of their own choosing. But don't force those who are happy with what they have to upgrade. People don't like to feel coerced or tricked by harassing pop-ups constantly 'reminding' you to upgrade. No means no! 🙄

Yeah and I'm just not that convinced that I would be that much better off upgrading to W10 than if I stuck with 7 or 8 and I just can't be bothered😀
