Question With Buffy and Angel being a cult classic..

I was asked this a while ago from someone else who quite liked Buffy and Angel,and they were pondering about, if a new series of either show were to be made, would it ever achieve the same sort of following as what the original Buffy and Angel series did?

I said that with it becoming more of a "cult classic" with regards to the followers it has, that if a new series was to be made, it would have to have some of the original characters in for it to retain any sort of following (in my opinion).

do you agree that if a new one was to be made that, (with in general,re-makes or continuations of shows rarely turn out to be as good as the originals) that it would need some of the original members to become lead figures in a new series?

I think that would be key.

Plenty of shows have either been remade or picked up again with a new twist, Disney is making a new Boy Meets World continuation right now, so I wouldn't ever rule it out, even though it's probably unlikely, for Buffy/Angel to continue again in some format.

I still say that the most likely scenario is a feature movie. Vampires are in, Joss Whedon is the hottest thing in Hollywood right now and beyond Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz, not many of the Buffyverse actors are doing too much. I'm not saying it's likely, but I could see a movie in the pipeline sometime soon (or at least, I really, really want to see a movie).

That new Buffy project that died a few months back had none of the original actors or creators involved and it fell apart pretty quickly. If a new Buffy/Angel project was to come around and succeed, I think it would need Joss Whedon at the bare minimum. His presence alone would convince people to give it a shot. Having some of the old stars, namely SMG and Boreanaz, would be huge too.

I think for a one off movie then it wouldn't be to hard to convince most of the original cast to return,especially if Joss was at the helm.

I know that somewhere down the line,while it may not be 'directly' based on Buffy/Angel, someone will probably try to do something very similar, i think there will be a few directors who know that the following is still very big for Buffy & Angel, and that the fan base would watch something similar to it, but they always take a very big risk in doing so since they would be putting all their eggs in one basket mainly since the it would be directed mainly towards one group.

I don't want a re-make, I want everyone to leave Buffy alone. Well, if Joss actually agreed to make a movie, I would absolutely see it. However, the odds of him having anything to do with a continuation of the show or a movie, are slim to none. Without Joss, there is no Buffy.

Lighting as struck a few times before with great success BSG,ST TNG,ST DS9 to name a few that did really well. But it took a tremendous cast and crew to pull off that feat.

I would hate the idea of a remake but a continuation could be interesting. I'd definitely want to see original cast and writers involved. Big problem with that is vampires don't age so we couldn't really have Angel or Spike cause they both look much older now.
Another problem is the comic series. There would probably be big continuity issues.

The actors are too old now. Best thing that could happen is a reboot with new actors, whether it be a TV show or movie, with Joss at the helm. Another alternative would be something about maybe past Slayers or future Slayers (Fray, perhaps?).

I wouldn't mind seeing another aspect of the verse on TV. Like drizzlydaze said, maybe a Fray series.

My biggest concern would be whether or not the remake would be able to keep true to the spirit of the show, so often we see remakes that are unrecognizable.
