Sam Raimi is producing a new fantasy syndicated series (like Hercules, Xena) based on The Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind. Never read the books and I was only slightly interested in the series when I heard about it.

There is an official site with only a trailer up right now. The site says the show is going to be called "Legend of the Seeker" but apparently at Comic Con it's still called "Wizard's First Rule". But anyway:

Legend Of The Seeker

It doesn't look too bad, for a syndicated show. I really hope the acting is better than, say, BeastMaster or even Hercules for that matter.

Hey now, no bashing of the mighty Hercules.

It definitely has potential. I'm a big fan of the team behind it and I've read the first few books of the series and even though I wasn't enthralled, it could definitely make for an interesting show. Plus it's got Jay Laga'aia in it, and that's a big plus. Personally I'm kinda hoping it will be along the lines of Hercules/Xena cause I'm missing a good proper syndicated action/adventure show that makes no excuses.

Hercules and Xena were too camp, IMO. I liked them just fine, but can't we get a well-acted S&S show that's played straight? That's all I want. But if they play it as a straight drama then the acting really does need to be good otherwise it wouldn't work, when a show is just a campy, silly show it doesn't matter. 🙂

That statement had me giggling like a little school girl.

You telling me these shows were campy and not straight enough?! 😀

You never do know from a trailer, and comedy never does translate well through one. But we should bear in mind that the team behind it have never taken themselves that serious so it would be a little strange if they started now. Obviously this won't be a repeat of something that was on the air 15 years ago, that just won't happen. What I was looking for that those older shows had, which I hope this one will, is the independent episode. The stand alone 40 minutes of good proper action/adventure. Unlike most shows that are on today which you need to follow from week to week to fully understand it, Lost being the prime example. But unfortunately I don't think that will happen. Television seems to have moved past the single episode and are built around archs spanning complete seasons. I just wish that for once they'd revisit it.

i loved the camp (but the xena hoo har was a reference to babycart warrior, his son does that for him... i think it was referenced in Jet Li's Legend of the red dragon too....) but still gave some fans what they had wanted and what the writers had been writing about, that had always been a part of the show.

Big fan of Sam Raimi anywhos and ive been following this for a while, and cliche away... I CANT WAIT! lol
