Women in the Buffy/Angelverse

So I was thinking and I noticed that every single main female cast member on both shows ended up becoming something of the supernatural.

Buffy: Preppy School Girl --> Vampire Slayer

Willow: Awkward Nerd --> Uber Witch

Cordelia: Shallow rich girl --> Visions/Vessel to APTB

Anya: regular human --> Vengence Demon

Tara: Witch

Dawn: Ball of energy --> human girl --> various mythical things

Fred: Awkward Nerd --> An old one aka Illyria

Even the minor female charecters majority were something to do with the supernatural.

I know that Joss was all about female empowerment, I just find it funny that all the females were turned into something supernatural. And most of the male cast members were just regular human beings.

Well I think that there's also a big percentage of the victims that are female.
So it feels like a counterpoint that although there are a large amount of female victims, that they show that women can be strong and powerful too (in both good and bad ways)

^ There are a lot of male victims, too, though. I mean, for the most part, it just seemed like demons and vamps went around killing all willy nilly.

As far as women turning into supernatural/mythical beings, I can't say I'm too surprised. It's a show in which Xander is sort of the odd one out simply by virtue of the fact that he *isn't* a supernatural being, and even then, he's a demon magnet whose primary support group is full of supernatural types. In the Buffyverse, myth often serves as metaphor, so I think it's much more important to look at what each character's transformation says about that character than it is to simply look at the fact that that character transformed.
