RUMOUR-Buffy Stars Battle Over Wonder Woman Role

Ex-BUFFY stars SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and CHARISMA CARPENTER are allegedly competing for the lead role in forthcoming superhero movie WONDER WOMAN.

The actresses - who played BUFFY SUMMERS and CORDELIA CHASE in the hit TV series - are battling for the iconic role after their former boss, JOSS WHEDON, agreed to direct the movie remake of the 70s television show, reports British newspaper the DAILY RECORD.

An insider says, "Joss has told the studio that Sarah is his first choice followed by Charisma. Sarah expressed an interest, but the producers are more interested in Charisma because she is less well known."

It would also help if you actually took into account the sources of your information. Posting something from a tabloid is just plain ol rubbish and a waste of space.
A video interview with Summer Glau

We ran into Summer Glau at the World Premiere of Meet The Fockers at Universal Studios and we asked her to clear up some questions about her character and also about Joss Whedons involvement on Wonder Woman.

To view the video, please open link: http://www.iesb.net/movies2/movie121704.php

While I love Sarah Michelle Gellar and think she is one of the best actresses to ever grace TV, she is not Wonder Woman. For one thing she is too blond; for another she is too short (there is a reason WW is an amazon).

Charisma might be able to pull it off, but my choice would be for Lucy Lawless. I read a graphic novel featuring Wonder Woman and in every illustration looked like Lucy Lawless (never really watched Xena so I can't comment on her acting).

Someone has to say it.

This story is bogus.

Consider the original source. As I understand it any British tabloid with the name Daily in it, is the rough equivalent of an American grocery market rag with the name National.

I could be wrong about that, but I'm the closest thing to positive that that particular "Daily" rag has a bad rep.

Would you quote the National Enquirer as a source, and expect people to believe it.

Wanna prove me wrong? Find a reliable source to support this claim they state as fact:

after their former boss, JOSS WHEDON, agreed to direct the movie remake of the 70s television show

Could not agree with N4H more!

This story is a work of pure fiction, written by a hack tabloid journalist for a "news"paper that is famous for it's less than accurate approach to reporting.

For anyone on here that isn't familiar with the tabloid newspapers here in the UK the fact is that they are allowed to make news up and get away with it. If they need to fill a space on a page they will simply create a story, credit it to an unnamed source so as to avoid having the subject of the story taking them to court, and print it, simple as that!

Personally i haven't read a newspaper in years simply because i prefer to watch actual news on the many high quality news channels we have in this country rather than read the fictional tales they print in the papers.

I'm going to assume that Joss knows a thing or two about casting. Having tiny little Sarah Michelle Gellar play Wonder Woman would be the equivalent of having Danny Devito play Superman!

Too true Cordelia. In fact I was reading on a blog, where they were suggesting the whole idea for the SMG as Wonder Woman rumour began in much the same way as the SMG as Bond rumour. Sarah was joking about it. Something to do with some Wonder Woman spoof thing she was doing on MTV.

BTW everyone knows the "Whedon to do Wonder Woman" thing is also an unsubstantiated rumour, right?

...although, Charisma as Diana Prince...hmmm, sigh...

How come my Summer Glau thread was cpombined with this one?

Well the SMG vs. Charisma for the role of WW is obviously false, espically since nothing has been given the greenlight on the film.

But SMG is just to small for the role, Amazons are tall and well SMG is short and tiny. Charisma would be perfect for the role though, she has the looks of the charecter, and the outfit would fit her very well. ANd it would be something different from what we have seen from her so far.

We may be right.This may be a Rumour after all.There are reasons why in the article below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE CHOSEN ONE: Joss Whedon is staking his claim to another female superhero. Warner Bros. is on the verge of lassoing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind to write and direct the studio's long-gestating Wonder Woman feature film, TV Guide Online has learned. The almost-done deal comes just two months after Whedon announced that he was getting out of the TV biz to focus on making movies, beginning with his forthcoming Firefly flick, Serenity. Meanwhile, there's no word on who Whedon may tap to fill Lynda Carter's satin tights, but I'm going to go out on a limb and throw Sarah Michelle Gellar's name into the mix. (Yes, this is how rumors get started, folks.)
Erm, there is no doubt about it. This isn't even worthy of being called a rumour, it's based on an outright falsehood!
I've seen TV guide jump on internet rumours as fact before.
I'm pretty sure they offered up the one that said Buffy animated was a done deal for TV, when it was later announced what they were producing at the time was a demo to be shopped around.
I'm not convinced this Wonder Woman thing is anything but rumour yet.
As far SMG to do Wonder Woman though. That's nonsense.
Very well Xx. In spite of being warned against making off-topic comment previously on this thread, you are going to insist on making what should be a private matter public.
You were told to PM the moderator. I know you got the message, because you did PM me. I responded to your PM with what should have been an explanaition to your concerns above. I explained it in detail. If it was not sufficient you should have contacted an administrator - Faith or Buffy Summers.
You chose not to do this and instead post another off topic post.
In fact, what the Hell. You don't seem to read your PMs, so I'll post the PM you were sent here. I'll give you a chance to read it, then I'm going to close this thread and send it to the cemetary, because it has now gone too far off topic.
Answer:
You mean the Wonder Woman one, right?
I didn't get to that one first, but if I had, I would also have merged it, although I would have merged it with the Serenity thread.
So how did it wind up on the Wonder Woman thread, you ask?
Well first of all you have to realize you've earned yourself some added personal attention from the board mods by continuously doing stuff like double-posting, posting to the wrong forum, and bumping threads to spam some personal interest. In fact you have had your posting privelages suspended twice for continuing to make these infractions against repeated instructions not to.
It's a little irritating that even though you've been instucted repeatedly on these mistakes, you do not seem to making any effort to correct them.
It's entirely possible that you are getting a little less slack than you would be given if you showed some effort to behave yourself.
When you make multiple rule infractions it requires multiple moderators to fix them.
The other moderators who were assisting me in the Whedonverse forum after you'd done one of your mass Whedonesque to Buffy-Boards postings knew they'd seen the same kind of stuff that was in the Summer Glau thread posted in other threads in Whedonverse. They may not have known Summer is a Serenity actress, or they may not have cared. They saw she was discussing Wonder Woman, and merged the Summer thread with the Wonder Woman thread. I'm going to leave it there. It's not out of place.
Now here's something else I'd like to discuss with you.
It concerns this business of mass posting stories from Whedonesque to Buffy-boards.
Technically, that in itself is not against the rules, as far as I know, but here's why it's irritating. Whedonesque is a different kind of site than Buffy-boards.
Of course we want to know about interesting, topical, and important news developments in the Whedonverse, but Whedonesque is interested in any tiny mention of anything that might be construed in the least bit related to anything Whedon.
If you see something on Whedonesque, or anywhere else that you believe is a development you think Buffy-boards members might be interested in, by all means post it. But that doesn't mean you should simply collect every Whedonesque story, and post it to Buffy-boards blind, without reading the story close enough to realize stuff like - it's not that important, or it's already been posted at BB, or it's going in the wrong forum.
Try to just post the stories you read elsewhere that make you go, "Hey. That's interesting. The Buffy- boards guys should know about this."
So I hope that helps. If you're still unsure about something be sure to PM again.
This is interesting -
Morena Baccarin on Wonder Woman
Source: IESB.net
June 14, 2005
IESB.net talked to "Serenity" and "Firefly" star Morena Baccarin about whether or not she's up for the role of director Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman. Here's a clip:
Morena keeps on being a fan favorite and says that she would love to have a chance to audition for the part. She also admits to having talked to Joss regarding the role but also states that she has never been offered the role.
http://superherohype.com/news.php?id=3145
There's a link to a video of the interview at the article.
And before anyone says Moreena Baccarin is too small. She's 5' 8". The previous Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, was 5' 8 1/4".
Apparently the girl from Dawson's Creek is having delusions of grandeur since she's been boffing Tom Cruise. I saw her on a late night talk show, shooting off at the mouth about how if Joss sent her a script, she might deem to read it, and decide whether or not it was good enough for her.
Dream on Dawson's Creek girl. You're not getting any script.
Go Morena.
I think Tom Cruise warps the minds of all around him. He's over the bend.
Morena could work, I think. Just make all the bad guys Tom Cruise's height! Can't tell how physical, coordinated she is. I know they do a lot with stunt doubles of course. She has those gorgeous brown eyes, but I wonder if they'd give her blue contacts. Maybe that would look weird with her complexion. I'm just a fanboy I guess"”I want the actor be a visual match with the comic book icon.
