Wonder Woman Casting

Anyone else think this whole "Who will be Wonder Woman" thing is actually just a way of drumming up interest in the film?

It may well be. The fanboy sites do enough rumor-mongering and fantasizing that it almost doesn't matter what "news" trickles out.

I think the Internet and the 24 hour cable news cycle helps to rev up all the pointless trivia and obsession with Hollywood. And yet, I can't look away, must...participate...
 
I was going to disagree with Xander, and say it isn't the Wonder Woman people who are creating the rumours, it's we, the fanboys, but...

Remember when the Serenity crew was at that convention, and Joss made that crack, something like, "Hmm. Where am I going to find a beautiful, swarthy Mediterranean type?", then he looked at Morena.
 
Joss is notorious for cryptic jokes, things that seem to be non-sequiturs"”all around ambiguousness, right? (his comments about the Angel comics come to mind as well) I can't tell if he does it just to create an Internet frenzy or not.

Serenity's unusual promotion style does reflect some savvy, playfulness.

I'm thinking he's just a smart creative/media person"”doesn't want to tip his hand, display works-in-progress for the world to tear apart. And, maybe he just likes to mess with people's heads.
 
Remember that time in the days before he signed for Wonder Woman, there was all that anticipation that maybe he would, and he posted at Whedonesque, saying simply "Wonder Woman, hmmm".

On the other hand was it him or someone else who suggested Buffy Season Seven wouldn't be dark, like season 6 was? A fib.
 
I just had a thought.

If Serenity were to become big in a way the numbers from the advanced screenings, and other indicators seem to be suggesting, and Moreena were to get Wonder Woman, and WW became a similar hit, Moreena would instantly become an A list big name in a way that the other Joss actress creation who rejected any further connection to the verse, and shall remain brainless...er, I mean nameless, can only dream of.
 
To be fair I am reading up most stories about who the WW will be, so maybe I should stop being hypocritical.

Leave Sarah alone n4h, you big meany 😛 (Okay yeah she may have a bit of a diva complex going on but ah well).

Check this out for humility. This is what Moreena said -

"A lot of fans [have approached me], I talked to him about it, and I would love to do anything he does, When the time comes I would love to audition for it and just have a shot at it. I would be blessed with an audition".

Now compare that to what that Famke Jensen, and Katie Holmes said about working with Joss, which was basically a demand for a script to see if the kid can write first, or worse what SMG said, who knows what Joss is capable of, can thank him for what fame she has, auditioned for an unscripted part from a lesser director, knows Joss will only do a Buffy movie if he can interest the principles first, and still demanded a finished script, before expressing any interest.

Plus Moreena has that soft female strength that would put a real interesting spin on the Amazonian princess, and she can handle Joss's even most sardonic quips. Oh yeah, and added bonus - gorgeous.
 
In fact, what's with all these B-listers rumouring Joss is chasing after them with a Wonder Woman script.

I can forgive Moreena, because Joss did suggest publicly she'd be good for the Wonder Woman part, but what's with Katie Holmes, and now believe it or not Lindsay Lohan:

Lastly the guys also asked Lohan whether she would consider taking on a role such as "Wonder Woman", and she let slip she had already been in the running for the part:

"'Wonder Woman' would be cool! I actually met with someone there at one point. But yeah, I would never cancel anything out. I need to have other places to go and explore. I'm trying to find things that are different than anything I've done just to show my abilities and so I can have some kind of stretch. Cause most of the things Ive done are still similar to me. They're still younger girls and they're still light-hearted."

Maybe Lohan's old look could perhaps stretch to WW, but the new skinny blonde thing just ain't working.

Talking of Famke and Katie maybe they could be forgiven for wanting to see the script first because a) theres still some balls superhero films and b) they have never seen Buffy/Angel/Firefly.

The Famke remark wasn't Wonder Woman. It came out of the old "Joss to do X Man 3" rumour.
I hope we get the offical WW casting in the next few months so they can get started on somewhat of production. Im wondering if they are even done with the script yet...

Nope, and thats why Joss accepted it. No deadline (well I think 2007 is the deadline but not like X-Men 3 which needs to be done ASAP).

Has Joss Whedon given any hint on who he wants to play the role of Wonderwoman?
I just read that Eliza Dushku said that she would love to play the role of Wonderwoman. She told this to the attendees at the Wizard World Convention in Boston.
Now theres a thought to ponder on.
 
Eliza is too short to play Wonder Woman...Princess Diana/Diana Prince/Wonder Woman is an Amazonian type..Dushku doesnt fit that type

Of course any actress who hasnt made it to a huge blockbuster as lead will say i want the job, its gonna be huge(and thats nothing to do with Whedon actually)
 
good point and I agree with you about Eliza being too small. But small people can play as larger people.....a little camera trickery. But my guess would be they wont do that. But you never know. btw how tall was Lynda Carter?
 
You dont need to be amazon heigth to play WW, you could be Elizas size and still get it since they are going to make you look taller anyway.

But im wanting Kate Beckinsale for WW since she has everything for the role IMO

But right now just about every actress wants the role of WW
