About two months ago, I found a lump on my shoulder where the collar bone is. It was a pretty noticeable lump and it hurt to touch. After about a week though, the lump no longer hurt. The lump moved a little when you touch it, and it was even a little.. I don't know, squishy? Not squishy, but it wasn't very hard.

Anyways, since then, my shoulder has been very sore. The lump has shrunken a lot, that some days, it's not even there. But some days, it is there. It's like it gets swollen some days, I don't know.

So I went to the doctors and mentioned it to him, but the lump wasn't there. It was just one of those times it wasn't there, but of course it showed up eventually again. My doctor told me it shouldn't be anything to worry about, and we can talk about it at our next appointment. Well, at my next appointment, I was late so we didn't have time for it. The pain of my shoulder was way worse about a month ago, and then it didn't hurt that much, but now recently the pain is getting more noticeable. On Monday I'll be making an appointment to get it checked out.

But I'm really worried. I want to know what's wrong, but I also don't want to know because I'm afraid it may be something serious like a tumor or something...

I don't really know why I made this thread, I was just worried and wanted to talk it out I guess. My Mom doesn't say much about it when I ask her but I can tell that she's worried. Do you guys know what it might be? What if it's a tumor? Could I get rid of it? Is there treatment for it? I'm just really worried. 🙁 It can't be fatal, could it?

Scary times indeed -- I've been there.

You're young and I'm assuming fairly healthy. I'd say the odds are stacked towards you and that it's probably nothing to be overly concerned about. On the other hand, even if it is something such as a tumor I would think that it's ridiculously early and that it can still be treated effectively.

Since your appointment isn't until Monday I'd say just try your best to keep your mind off and it don't worry! You can't know until you know and if something truly is wrong you'll get it taken care of!

If you need anything, I'm here to talk!

Aww don't worry! It's nothing bad at all!

It could just be a fracture to the collar bone.
So you'll just get a sling (Since the brace has the same outcome and is cheeper).

Just don't do stupid things with the arm like picking up heavy things and make sure your shoulder is well protrcted!

You won't die so no point in thinking that! Just a bum arm for a bit while it heals...and if you get bored while healing...Pretend to be Lindsey!

😀

Yikes! I know how it's like to worry about stuff like that. But I'm sure it's going to be okay, especially since you've alerted ur doctor. I once got something exactly like that on the side of my head. I was SUPER freaked out too, but after a couple days/weeks it just went away. I still don't know what it was...

I had a similiar problem in the past. It turned out to be some type of gland that overgrew, but wasn't no harm at all. At your age the body can have so much changes that some things get out of wack but nothing to lose sleep over. So who knows what it is? Like Starslayer said....just chillax and think of the best cause if your a numbers man....then the odds are its likely nothing too serious depending on your definition of course.

Lol you got fooled, that wasn't Bree, it's The Chosen ;) I gotcha tho.
When I was your age I would get swollen lymph nodes near my neck which are similar to what you described whenever my body was fighting a cold or infection. They would go away and come back during a one year period and now I haven't gotten them in a long time. It's probably something small like that.

Really? That makes sense because my friend gets those lymph nodes too. But is it normal for it to cause pain in my shoulder? :/
Like Caritas said, it could be a swollen lymph node. Also there are a lot of muscles that connect/are around the collarbone, so if you're stressed out and under a lot of tension you could just have a knot. Trust me, I was worried about something like that in the past too. The best is to keep a positive mind. Like others have said the numbers are very much on your side, so keep your mind off this and go see your doctor. I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine, Chris. 🙂 And be sure to keep us updated!

Oh snaps...i was bamboozled!
Yeah, they would cause pain around my arms/shoulder area. It's probably something small like that. That would also explain why it would go away and come back.

I have a lymph node that does that on the back of my neck. Comes and goes. It can cause crazy amounts of pain and tension headaches and stuff.

Anyway, just don't worry until you talk to the doc. I'm sure everything will be fine. And let us know! 😀

Well I'm glad to hear that it may just be a lymph node. Hopefully that's all it is. I'll definitely keep you guys updated on what I find out. You guys have been so comforting. 🙂

people can get fat/fluid excretions called ganglions that pocket in random areas in the body they can be any size and usually cause some pain and discomfort due to pressing on the nerves/ surrounding tissues. They can feel better somedays and worse others. I've seen this a fair few times in the hospital and they are normally removed during minor surgery under local anaesthetic. They are absolutely nothing to worry about, although surgeons always take a biopsy to make 100% sure. Hope this helps. 😀

This is great information. I guess I may have jumped to conclusion about the worst such as a cancerous tumor when I got the lump. I'm always like that. 😛 My appointment will be at the end of the week, so I hope to get some relieving news.

If I did get that surgery done, I would be asleep right?

It depends where it is. Seeing as you said it was near/on your shoulder then yeah I'd think so. If not it would be local anaesthetic perhaps with sedation (which makes you drowsy and feel as if you're a bit drunk). Good luck for monday I'm sure everything will be fine.

Any kind of medical issue is scary. 🙁 I'm sorry you've got that to worry about, and I hope you are gonna be alright! If the issue is really worrying you that bad, keep pressing your doctor about it. Sometimes doctors aren't always right to brush stuff off, and if you have a hunch that something's wrong, it's better to be safe than sorry. It could be nothing, but it also could be something. *HUGS* I'll say a prayer for you!

Worried about it being a tumour? As far as I remember a tumour is a very slow growing form of cancer.
The word to notice there is ' growing '.
You describe what you have as coming and going. So the chances are it isn't a tumour.
Where abouts is it on your collar bone? Is it near the joint? If so it might just be fluid on the joint. That would come and go with use, or lack of use.
Best that you see a doctor though.
I am curious that you stated that you were late to see the doctor. In all the times I've been to see a doctor, the doctor has only been on time once or twice.

Another theory is that when you first noticed it, you became worried by it. Since then, it may not have existed again, it could be just a psychological growth - your mind is playing tricks on you.
Ever heard of the term, a worry wart? Guess where the term comes from, and why.

I'm no medical expert but it sounds like you may have ganglion. I used to get it in my wrist, a large lump would appear and sometimes be painful. It's gone for now but on occasion it pops back up. My dad suffers with them on his wrist as well and it gets aggravated by his watch. If they get really annoying I think you can have them removed.
