Worst death ever?

I think that Fred's death was indeed the worst death. Not the worst written, but the hardest to handle (other than Wes, but thats a whole other can 'o worms lol). What she was saying as she lay dying in her lover's arms was beautiful. I completely agree with Palabravampiress - how emotional it was for us to hear her repeat over and over again "I'm not scared" and to hear the final "Why can't I stay?". Alexis and Amy were fantabulous in that scene.
I think that this death was especially hard because the team knew it was coming and were trying to stop it but they couldnt. Angel couldnt sacrifice thousands to save her, Gunn played a huge role in her death...... She was also a ray of sunshine for the whole group - the one, at least to me, that seemed to be the least corrupted from W&H. Then, to have a physical reminder of her in your face, day after day would be absolute torture. How can one move on when the body of a loved one is right in front of you?

Ah, the memories of a person, so that the person can be kept alive.
Illyria and Fred ? What about when one identical twin dies ?

Well, when one twin dies, it is tragic and difficult. But as for the body walking around - you have the knowledge that that body isn't the body of the deceased loved one. With Fred, Illyria IS Fred's body. That IS technically Fred wandering around, just without Fred's essence inside of it. To me, that would be all the more difficult.

I think rickmaniac has a good point. I agree it would be insanely hard to see the body/shell of a person everyday and know that they are not actually there. And to see this 'shell' hurt other people you care about would also make it difficult. I thought the scene of fred dying was incredibly powerful, Like palabravampiress said. Definatly well written and well acted in my opinion.

I was also moved by Angels death in season 2 BTVS, it was so sad that Buffy had to kill him, she hardly hesitated even thought it would have been incredibly difficult for her. She knew what was in store for the love of her life.

SMG acting in ''The Body" was what made the death of Joyce so real to me. The camera work and lack of music etc was fantastic and eerie. It made it feel really real and kinda hits close to home. I could imagine myself in that situation - finding a loved one dead, but the others, although moving, were not something I could geniunly think - Hey, that could happen to me. (stabbing a the vamp I love... they are kinda hard to find!)

The gift made me cry, it is one of my favorite scenes.

Taras death didnt 'hit' me like the others, I suppose the focus went off her death to evil willow very quickly. I felt more sorry for Dawn finding her.

To sum up - think that Fred death scene was the best (or worse depends on the way you look at it). It was moving, sad and scary all at the same time. I felt a huge range of emotions, similar to what the characters would have felt I would imagine. It wasnt just a death scene on TV.

I think that Fred's death was indeed the worst death. Not the worst written, but the hardest to handle (other than Wes, but thats a whole other can 'o worms lol).

I also believed that Fred's death was the worst. Not because it was the hardest for me to handle or dealing with Wes' reaction. It was the worst to me, because it bored the pants off me and I found myself begging for her to bite the dust.

To me, the biggest difference between the deaths of Fred and Joyce was that Joyce's death was quick and happened entirely off screen, and such a total surprise (I know she was sick before, but we were led to believe that her surgery had been successful), that all we saw of it was the aftermath in the reactions of her family and friends. That was bad enough, but we were shielded from the actual death itself.

With Fred, we saw the whole drawn out process of dying, the frantic efforts, futile as it turns out, of her friends, with the vast resources at their command, being ultimately utterly helpless to overcome the inevitability of it. We se Fred whimper, "I don't want to die!" and Wesley's grief in losing a love that had just been granted to him.

Both deaths are tragic in their presentation, but my sympathies go more to the friends of fred, because there is never any ultimate closure. They are constantly confronted with Fred in the form of Illyria, even going so far as to have the hell god be able to morph back into the woman they all loved. That must have been the most painful element in Fred's death.

The saddest part about Wesley's death to me was "Fred" assuring him that they would mow be together after asking if she should "lie to him." That was heart breaking, even for a cynical old ex-sailor like me.

the worst one for me to handle was Joyce's death. Probally because my best friend had just suddenly passed away right before I saw it and Joyce had gotten "better" and then well, she just died! Kinda like Heather, she had gotten better and then BAM she was gone! No one expected it...if she would have passed when she was sick well then... yeah...I can't really talk about that now can I...but the way they filmed "the body" was just...WOW thinking aobut it I am tearing up. I of course cried when Buffy killed angle, and I bawled when buffy killed her self, I felt so much pride when Spike died saving the world that while I cried I smiled.

Joyce's death was just....well I hated it!

IMHO Fred's death had me bawling my eyes out the first time I saw it. It keeps doing the same every time.

She was such a great character and while I did like Illyria, I was sad that Fred was gone. It hit me worse than any other death in the Buffy/Angel universe.

I loved Fred and her death was shocking. In fact, that bit when she's singing to Wes 'You are my sunshine....'' and she collapses, shocker.
Illyrias arrival spoiled it all completly though 😡

tara, no joyce, no jenny.... no vamp willow getting dusted by oz.... oh buffy in 'the gift'....... aaahhhh my head i dunno..... this show makes me cry a lot

In my opinion Fred's death was deffinetly the worst.
She has been and always will be my favorite character so it was obviously going to really get me. But the way in which they killed her off was so horrible. I was just hoping and preying that they were going to make her well again.
It was just so sad because I'd always been a big Wes/Fred fan and they finally got together and it made me so, so happy and then suddenly this all happens. Totally heartbreaking.
I cry everytime I see it.

But then I also always cry everytime I see Joyces, Taras, Buffys (2nd), Jennys and Angels deaths but Fred's gets me the worst.

Welcome karma for your Fred love :)
For me, Fred's death was one of the saddest moments I've ever witnessed in any TV show, I don't think it was drawn out or boring. It was definitely sad though.

When Wesley died I think that Illyria learnt something about humans and their emotions, whether she understood it or not is a different matter of course, but her asking Wesley if he'd like her to lie to him was the sweetest thing I've ever seen, truly a heart-rending moment.

I don't agree. Probably because Fred's death bored me to tears.

OMG how can you say that. Considering the deaths that have occured I have to say that hers was one of the worst for me. It kind of goes like this for me.

1. Buffy
2. When Buffy kills Angel
3. Fred in Wesleys arms
4. Cordelia
5. Joyce
6. Tara
7. Doyle
8. Spike

For me personally I'd have to say Cordy's was the worst just because she didn't even get to be herself for so long before she died, and no, You're Welcome is not enough of a compensation for me. Yeah she got to come back for a day pretty much to just have thrown in her face exactly what she couldn't stay for, at no fault of her her own, she got a bum deal and I am still SO bitter about it!

Fred's was awful, it was so sudden and she didn't deserve it either and completely broke my heart it broke my heart, but man do I love Illyria! I think it was so hard for Wes and he clung on so hard and was unable to move on because whatever relationship he could've had with Fred was ripped from him before it really started, its tragic 🙁

Okay so I am huge softie especially when it comes to deaths in the Buffy/Angel universe. We could talk about them all and I guarantee they all made me cry. For some reason Anyanka's fake death is bothering me right now the most. That episode is so freakin sad. I always cry when it shows her singing her song when Xander is all sleeping in the chair. Okay so lets talk about Fred for a moment. Her death is by far the worst in regards to the havoc it reigns on the team. We had to watch her slowly and painfully die and then this other being takes over her body and she looks like her but she is not her. I do not blame Wesley at all for how hard it was on him considering how much he loved Fred.

Okay. So. That's hard.

1. Fred. It was a tie with Joyce and Tara, but I was so more attached to Fred that it hit me. "hit me" - hit me. I was so sad. For days. It just represented all the unfairness in the world imo. It really hit me. Yeah I needed to say it once more! ^^
2. Tara. "Your shirt..." OMG she does not even REALIZE she's dying, and bam, here she is, dead. When Tara and Willow were together again, at last, and... Oh no.
3. Joyce. Let me be clear. "The Body" is imo the best Buffy episode ever. Everything about it is perfect in a cruel way. We can all relate because we have or will lose our mother one day. And personnally I've been in Anya's position when three years ago, a friend's mother suddenly died.
4. Anya. Just like that. No sudden luck in the fights like what always happened to Xander in the seven Buffy years (well except the eye gouging thingy of course.). You're not even sure it happened. She won't stand. She's gone.
5. Angel in "Becoming". One of the greatest Buffy episodes. Can you IMAGINE having to do what Buffy just did?
6. Buffy in "The Gift". "Be brave... Live... For me". Need I say more?
7. Cordelia. I really thought she wasn't dead. And the fact that noone seems to f***ing CARE is what gets me the most. Though the phonecall part is so heartbreaking.
8. Doyle. It let me really uncomfortable.
9. Jenny. Oh the part when Willow and Buffy learn the news... And it's so scary for her when she just runs and runs and... here he is. Argh.
10. Renée. More for the "huh, what, AGAIN?" part.
