I love S6. To me there's no "bad or less good season" And I love a lot of the eps. (Normal again, Forever, The body etc...)

Omg you're right haha. I was confused, because I just wrote something in a topic about s5

I'm sorry, those are s5 ofcourse 😉

Well, Buffy's makes total sense. Obviously her arc is suddenly different, because what had happened to her was sudden, and different, and bound to make her depressed.

Her storyline did make sense, but I felt like it might have benefited from at least one contrasting arc. Even though she felt alienated and assumed that everyone else was doing fine, we saw that everyone was crashing and burning in tandem, and especially later in the season, when it seemed like no one was getting along with anyone else and the chance of getting an episode with quippy conversations was slim to none, it was less fun to watch.

I always felt it was more an addiction to power than magic, which is where I find my problem. Going from a shy, unconfident girl to an extremely powerful witch made Willow feel important and special, and that wasn't something she wanted to give up. Also, she'd always shown a tendency to try and take control of situations, usually without everyone's approval--way back in Season 3 she wanted to do the de-lusting spell on Xander without his permission. It was the power and the control Willow became addicted to, not the magic itself. So Willow craving and going through withdrawals over magic didn't fit with the flow of her plotline, in my opinion.

You articulated what I really disliked about the Magic Is Crack storyline: for Willow, magic was a means to an end (feeling like she was someone important and in control) rather than something she craved in and of itself. But that barely got mentioned, whereas her magical rampages and withdrawal got tons of screentime.

Real addiction is kind of like that though. You may start drinking alcohol as a means to socialize and have fun and suddenly find your drinking consuming you, etc. Just because she started using magic to gain power and help Buffy does not mean the use of it could not be somewhat intoxicating for her in and of itself. This was briefly touched upon before season six as both Oz and Tara express some reservations about her increased magic use in seasons four and five.

I also love season 6 because of the trio. okay, they are really dangerous but also just funny!!
Besides there are these very sad episodes in which Tara dies and Willow turns evil

The trio is hilarious!

Yeah, I get what you're saying.
But as someone else said, addictions develop in interesting ways. Why you started doing something is often not why you continue doing something.

I think Willow loved the power, loved the fact that she was somebody when she was a witch...but how do we know that dark magic isn't physically addicting? So there's that level to it, the physical withdrawal from being all mojo'd up.

And also, some of the biggest control freaks are the ones who become addicted to something. Eating disorders, for example, are typically found in people who want to be perfectionists. They want control, and having an eating disorder gives them a feeling of that, even though it's very obvious to an outsider that they have completely surrendered any bit of control over to their behaviors. I see Willow's addiction similarly. I believe she felt she was in control, and still owning the power, even though it's apparent to the viewers that she's not.

Nah, Season Six is great. It had a lot of great episodes: Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Gone, Older and Far Away, Normal Again, Seeing Red. And on that note, Normal Again is one of my favorite episodes of the seires. Honestly, I don't think I could pick a worst season.

Normal Again is pretty awesome.

But that's just how psychological addiction works. There are more than enough drugs (both on the medical and on the illegical side) that are chemically absolutely safe and non-addictive, but people do get psychologically addicted to them all the time if it helps them achieve (or momentarily seem to achieve) a goal they crave. And psychological addiction can cause very physical (psychosomatic) withdrawal symptoms!

Let me put it this way: If someone "needs" some kind of medicine to make it through the day, and the pill is scientifically proven to be chemically non-addictive, and he/she does not need it to cure a somatic medical condition... would you call that person addicted to the pill?

(I would... and that's why I have no problem calling Willow a "magic addict", even if I agree with your reasoning about power/insecurity.)

Like some other posters, season 6 and 7 are my favourites. I love the darker, more edgy episodes, and seasons 6 and 7 were a lot deeper than those previous. I like how the norm was challenged, namely OMWF and Normal Again. I liked how they explored substance abuse and morality, with Willow's mind alterating. I also liked how the trio were set up as the big bad, yet were disbanded with a quick fillet, and Dark Willow was probably my favourite big bad.

OH GOD! I LOVE S6 *___________* Favorite, for sure.

Even the weird episodes like Doublemeat Palace 😀

Actually my least favorite thing is The Trio hahaha

i did like season 6, i dont know why everyone hated willow as the big bad, i thought it was actually refreshing having someone from the scoobies as evil.

I thought the trio was great and i do like some of the darker episodes where willow (even buffy) start acting a bit strange. All in all its not my favourite season but definately not one of the worst.

I absolutely love season 6. One of the better moments of all the seasons is when Buffy makes it clear that she was not aware of the building collapsing while she and Spike were doing their thing. I take the building collapsing as the world collapsing. And maybe the building and the world don't collapse if she wasn't throwing Spike off the wall there. I mean, how did it play out? Every time that someone said something about Willow being over the edge, or getting there, for the stated reasons, Buffy understood that the same was true for her as well. And then "denial" reared its ugly head and so it was, Willow can handle it (just as I can handle it)(and pity that she hadn't heard Angel's "you thought you could just touch it" speech to Faith there in Sanctuary). Which brings me to Willow. Didn't you all see the end coming? She ended Buffy's world (heaven) to end her own pain, and so why not the entire world when some greater pain comes? And call it, as Spike did, consequences.

By the way, I trust that one and all understand that Buffy herself was an addict. You don't need to snort a line or take a bong hit to chemically induce a perfect moment, or to self-medicate, as sex can serve that same function. Perhaps our man from the X Files can speak to the psychological addiction that sex can sometimes be.

Lastly, let me end by reducing what I consider to be a profound season 6 to the simple, to wit, it's a hell on earth boys and girls, deal with it, and without being a contributor to that hell or oblivious to the same.

I don't think any of the seasons are terrible. But if I had to choose my least favorite, it would have to be S1. I think the show as a whole is brilliant, and all the seasons contribute and shape the narrative.

It's interesting to be to see how often people comment that S6 is their least favorite, because it's my all-time favorite season.

Season 6 had many elements that people are bound to pull a face at. I personnally LOVE Season 6. Out of all the Seasons I don't have a worst. I'm completely and utterly incapabable of saying which is my worst. Because I LOVE every Season, even 1.

I mean it was probably one of Willow and Tara's more relevant season and therefore I have to like it. ^_^

I'm really in the mood for Season 6 right now actually.

Season Six is probably my favourite season; but only because it's the first season which I watched all the way through, and the first box set I got.
Some of the episodes I don't like much, like Dead Things. But the rest of the episodes I love. I mean, who can't love a season with a musical episode, one of the awesomest characters going evil and a ressurection all in one? 😉 My disappointment was the death of my favourite character, waah. 😛
But in short, season six is awesome. 😀

To be honest, I think the culmination of the Willow-is-a-witch character arc is pretty darn cool and would make it one of the best seasons no matter what. In fact, I think she and Angelus are my favorite big bads. What can I say? I love it when one of the good guys goes bad. It makes for highly entertaining TV. Plus, I feel pleasantly conflicted, as I don't know for whom to root. Normally, I want Buffy to kill or otherwise destroy the big bad. But Willow? Whoa. Not so much. I loved that Willow was saved not by Buffy, but by the strength of Xander's love. I liked many things about season 6. For me, though, it is impossible to put "Dark Willow" and "worst season" in the same sentence... even if poor Tara did have to die.

Definitley. It seemed that the show only really started to pick up it's momentum in Seeing Red. I mean sure I LOVED the whole drama episodes, but I just found that none of the episodes other than from Seeing Red onwards were collossal.

I'm going through season 6 and decided this my 2nd least favourite season. I only like one or two episodes, and some are really bad:

Double Meat Palace.
Wrecked
Smashed
As You Were
Dead Things

Thank goodness for the trio, they provided some comedy relief during this rather dark season.

Where was Angel?
