The sex Buffy and Spike had in "Smashed" was pretty on the spot, unplanned, unexpected. Do you think that if Spike were human, or if vampires could get women pregnant, Buffy would have been? Or would she stop herself because they have no nearby protection? What would have happened if she had?

Lol odd question but yes I suppose she could of got pregnant...same with Angel cause they went off the moments and especially with that Spike scene she was too messed up to have a rational thought so I could see them going off instinct and being unprotective...its part of life I would assume most pregnancies are accidents atleast around my way

If Spike were human, he would've died from the supersex.

I mean, it was no universe exploding space frak, but they brought down a house. Literally.

Well if he was human would the house actually come down then and would Buffy even want him then if he was human....too many variables

The point I guess is just the simple question is if she would of gotten pregnant and thats an impossible one to answer cause everybody is different...some get pregnant easy and some don't...some dudes shoot blanks and some don't, etc.

I don't think she would have gotten pregnant because BTVS is a TV-Show who tries to critisize. And a more less Teenager, which is pregnant isn't a very good paragon. So no, there wouldn't be a pregnant Buffy in my eyes!

Well I do think Buffy and Spike were so passionate in this one scene, I'm pretty sure she would've done it without protection. This was just one of those situation where it seemed like her brain was switched off and her behaviour was completely guided by lust and passion, so from experience, these aren't exactly the moments where you stop to do a quick review of how smart your behaviour is.

On the other hand, I don't think she would've gotten pregnant. Do you know how small the chances for that are, actually? First of all, you have to be in the right part of your cycle, which is about maybe 5 days out of let's say 28 days on average. Then, in her age, the chance at any given time that a fertile egg actually leads to conception is about 25%. So these two factors together would put the risk at about 4.5% chance that she would've gotten pregnant at that point...and that leaves out any infertility issues that could've been present in any of the involved parties. Of course you can always beat the odds, but I think in this case the writers would've opted for the 95.6%.

Assuming that Spike were human in that episode, there wouldn't have been any danger of pregnancy, because no normal human male would have been able to function after such a beating and a fall what had to have been at least 10 feet onto the concrete basement floor. So, no danger there.

We have absolutely no idea if any of the female characters were using birth control. They very well could have been, it just wasn't mentioned. Condom use was shown & mentioned a couple of times.

...it was? When? I really don't remember that.

There was at least one scene in Season 4, I can't remember which episode, when they show Riley getting a condom from the drawer beside his bed, and I think that Anya mentioned something about them once. All of the rest of the times, I think that it was just accepted that safe sex was being practiced.

The only exception that I could think of would be the antics between Buffy and temporarily human Angel in "I Will Remember You," since I can't imagine Angel either having a supply of condoms on hand or heading out to the corner drug store before things went that far. Given the events of that episode, things could have gotten REALLY interesting if Buffy had returned to Sunnydale, pregnant, with no memory of how or when it happened.

I don't think so. How did Angel get Darla pregnant? It was through a supernatural/higher power intervening. Spike and Buffy just did it lol

Angel actually bought Darla's salvation from the PtBs via trials he undertook for her - they could not grant her the third chance of life, but the contract was still there for a soul. So they sort of cheated and got her pregnant.

I don't think so, I was under the impression that vampires couldn't have babies (which was why they had to bring Connor about through cockamamie plots) so safe or not I kind of thought that Spuffy were in no worry of that.

If I understand the episode correctly, technically that wouldn't happen. Even if Buffy had become pregnant, she wouldn't be once she was in Sunnydale again as the day didn't happen. Angel remembers a day that didn't take place, so they didn't have sex but he has the memory of it. Either way, Buffy wouldn't be pregnant.

Yeah, but it still would have made a GREAT story.

Yup. Her memory wasn't taken from her; time rolled back.

Condom use was shown in Where The Wild Things Are. And yes Anya mentioned it at least once.

Not necessarily. There are ways to not get pregnant even without protection. Though, I don't recommend any of them.

I wouldn't want to see Buffy with a kid though. She's pretty badass. Plus, I think it'd be another Robin debacle. Where she loved her kid, but she had a duty that got her killed when he was young.

If the writers had wanted her to get pregnant, she would have. 😉

best answer.

As far as real life goes.. it depends on several things of course. People have unexpected and/or unprotected sex everyday 😛

I think its better to talk about the fact that its a vampire and a person. There is more gray area on that topic of pregnancy there.

Hahah that would make a great fanfic.
