Would Cordelia and Xander have broken up even if he hand't cheated on her?

Xander and Cordelia broke up in season 3 after she saw him kissing Willow. She couldn't forgive him. He wanted her back, but she was too hurting.

And we have a thread about opposites-do they attract. And that got me thinking about Xander and Cordelia, who are the complete opposites from each other. Yes, they had feelings for each other and they dated. Yet, because they're so different from each other, they always fought, because they were so different from each other. The break up was about him cheating on her. But since their diffrences made them fight all the time, that makes me think that they would have broken up anyway because of it, even before they finish high school.

Do you think Xander and Cordelia would have stayed together, even if they're so different from each other, if Xander hadn't cheated on her?

Yes I think they would have stayed together for a very long time if Xander hadn't cheated. I mean they truely loved each other why not? The two did really fit together. Cordy and her selfigshside and Xander the joking guy. Just the fct that Cordelia broke up with him showed how disapointed she was and that she saw a future with him!

I don't know. Xander clearly cared about Cordelia, but he was never in love with her. He was confused between his feelings for Cordy and Buffy in S2 and then his feelings between Willow and Cordelia in S3. There was always another girl in his mind during his time with Cordelia that makes me feel like he never really fell in love with her the same way he did with Anya.

It sucks because I like Xander/Cordelia more than Xander/Anya.

I really liked Xander and Cordy together but I don't think they would have lasted longer than high school. Not seeing each other every day in school would just naturally had made them drift apart even if she had still been in Sunnydale I think.

Considering the fact that Cordelia left Sunnydale after Season 3, I'm pretty sure that their relationship was pretty much doomed. I do believe, however, that they had a short, sort of "make up" period between the Season 3 finale and her moving away to seek her fortune in LA. After Oz's "No. We survived HIGH SCHOOL" line, when everyone walked away together, they definitely seemed friendlier than they had in awhile. I wouldn't necessarily go as far as anything like Xander and Anya's Season 7 break up sex, but something like Angel and Cordie's ,"Aw, hell. One for the road," kiss from his Season 5 wouldn't have been out of character.

I think they would have mutually broken it off before Cordy left for LA. Even though they might have loved each other, it's rare for high school relationships to work out in the end. If Cordy had ever returned to Sunnydale, I imagine they would have still been friends.

Nah, I don't see them working out in the long time... much as I've always preferred Xandelia over Xanya, I still think it was mostly (not purely, they do have their fine moments... like that one shining gem in the meh-ness of "Go Fish", when Cordy talks to what she thinks is fishified Xander on the edge of the pool) a hormonal thing between them, and ships like that rarely outlast a year.
