Would Faith Have Gone Down That Path...

Do you guys think that Faith would've become the dark person she was if she hadn't been called as a Slayer?
 
I don't think so at all. She would have been similar to what she was, but I think that she abused the "power" of being a Slayer, and that eventually led her down the wrong path. Without the power, she just would have been bad, but not really dangerous.
 
I agree with Amber, without the power of being a slayer she wouldn't have been able to do the things she did.
 
It depends. Just because she was a slayer may not be the only thing that made her a killer. it could depend on a lot of things. Going to Sunnydale for example.
True, its unlikely she would have gone there had she not been a slayer, but pure power alone probably isnt the main cause.
If she didnt become slayer, she wouldnt have superpowers but she could still kill people.
So I doubt becoming a slayer made much difference other than it sent her to Sunnydale.
 
Not sure. In a way I think meting Buffy was more of a catalyst than getting the slayerpowers. If she'd stayed away from Sunnydale I'm not quite sure if things would have unfolded the way they did.

I believe that nothing could've really deterred Faith off her path. She lead a crappy life as a child, so perhaps she was beyond saving. I'm not sure if her slayer powers further drove her to the edge, but you can tell that she was definitely different, and lead a different type of life. That was obviously really effecting her (as seen in Enemies when she is torturing Buffy).

I think that she might have continued down the same road. She might not have killed somebody, but she might have gotten into trouble.

The important thing is, that she reformed herself and learned from her mistakes. That is not something that most people can do, so perhaps things would've been different. It's hard to say.
 
I think she would have maybe not as far because well slayer strength etc has to give you a feeling of superority and lets you do more things other people just can't but i think she would have gone down that path and becoming a slayer actually delayed her from doing so because at first she had a reason to live but then she realised buffy could pretty much handle it on her own and considering she never really had anyone she went down that path but if she hadn't become slayer she would have had noone and no purpose sp may aswell become a crook!
 
I believe she would have been bad, but not as far gone as she was as a Slayer. She probably wouldn't kill or anything too extreme, but she probably would have stole things and pickpocketed and things. I think it has to do with her childhood more than being a Slayer, though that does impact things.
 
Things have happened in Faith's life that would completely screw up an individual. We know she came from a broken home, her mother died, and she was more than likely abused as a child. Not to mention neglected. And her repression of these events would lead to a lot of built-up anger and agression. I think that one day she would've snapped, whether or not she was Chosen. She's a terribly broken girl. It's hard to say what she would've done, but killing people probably isn't too far off the mark. In a way, being the Slayer saved Faith as much as it proved her downfall: it gave her a purpose, and likeminded people, however loyal or not so, to share this experience with. And without that feeling of purpose, I think Faith would've gone off the deep end, and probably? She would've commited suicide. All that loneliness takes its toll on a person.

I tend to think that Faith's darkness was inside her all along, but it might not have resulted in murder had it not been for her slayer power and meeting Buffy. It can't be all that easy finding something you finally think you're good at and then meeting the one person who everything thinks "does it better". That, to me, would weigh on her choices. To be good, but always not good enough, or be bad, and be the only one like that.
 
it's a hard call to make. i think faith was always pretty dark, but not neccesearily 'bad'. i think she had a pretty rotten upbringing, parents who didn't really care, not many friends her own age. and then to be landed with the slaying gig might have finally given her a purpose.
but she lost so much to that life, mostly her first watcher, which i think started the whole thing off. if her first watcher had lived, faith might have been a better slayer.
i do think going to sunnydale was the wrong thing to do. she saw what it was like to be the slayer and still have friends and family. faith couldn't understand why buffy could have that life and not her. which is why she switched bodies!
 
I don't think that Faith would have turned out evil if she hadn't been called. But I don't think the slayer-thing is what made her evil. I think Faith had a hard childhood, and was a little rough around the edges as a way of protecting herself from more heartache. I think what really pushed her over the edge is when (I forget her name) that watcher lady got her to trust her, and ended up being evil and stabbed her in the back. Faith couldn't take it anymore so she turned to the dark side, if you'll escuse my blatant Star Wars reference. She felt that she couldn't trust anyone, but found the kind of attention she was looking for in the Mayor. He knew how to get to her. Sorry ig that got a little off topic. 🙂
 
I think she just turned out bad because she had the power to do either good or evil very well, but if she was fighting for the bad guys she had no one competing for her power, for example another slayer:Buffy, she would have been top dog, the only rogue slayer, it gave her the opportunity to prove one and for all who was the better fighter between herself and buffy and who had the more power. I think she turned out bad because she was chosen, given the power that in her eyes meant she could do whatever she liked.

I completely agree.
I think her upbringing gave her a chip on her shoulder as well as a self-destructive streak, so it's hard to see her living a happy life with or without slayer powers. The powers just allowed her to take her pain out on others more effectively. First vamps, then when she "turned", anybody else.

True, the slayer powers just gave her more power (strength) to take out all her anger and what not on others. But I'd think that the chances that she would have gone "bad", or killed people and gone to jail, would have been bigger if she hadn't been a slayer. Cause the slayer gig did give her a reason to be "good", or not kill people and redeem herself.

Good point.
I don't think watching her watcher die was a reason for her to become "dark", she did seem to come over after dusting Kakistos and becoming a part of the scoobie gang.
