In another thread someone compared Buffy's enduring popularity to Star Trek and it got me thinking. Should the Slayerverse continue the way Star Trek does with new characters and a new setting? Maybe Doctor Who is a better comparison since there is a new Time Lord every season, there could be a new Slayer since as far as I know (Just finished S5) there is a new Slayer once a generation, so we could see the adventures of a new Slayer with every series. What do you all think?

Absolutely. I've said this before. The verse has a great mythology with many possibilities that haven't been explored yet.
Would love to see it being used in some way or another. Preferably in some kind of TV show.

I don't see any reason why a next generation Slayer series wouldn't work as well, or better that the parent series. Remember, with the exception of "Star Trek: Enterprise," all of the later Trek shows outlasted the original. There's no reason why the same thing couldn't work in the Slayerverse.
Something to be remembered, however, is that the success of "The Next Generation" and what followed, including the later movies, took place under the direction of Rick Berman, not Gene Roddenberry. Gene, like Joss, seemed to have problems dealing diplomatically with the network Powers That Be. Maybe the same thing would help with any possible future Slayer series.

Tough one.
I'll start off by saying that at this point, whatever Joss writes/produces/creates I'll go and see. His track record, not just from Buffy, is second to none except for the Hollywood directing elite. I loved Buffy and Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers. All of them were amazing, so I'd give anything he does or approves a shot. He's a big draw for me.
But that being said, I can't think of anyone as Buffy but Sarah Michelle Gellar. To me, she is that franchise. Now, the Angel spin off is one of my favorite series' ever, and Buffy is hardly in it, so clearly if things are done right, franchise continuations can work. Like [MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION] said, it has worked to great and very profitable effect with the Star Trek universe. Star Wars is keeping Dark Horse afloat with their comic book, and there have been countless Star Wars video games and animated series' that have nothing to do with Luke and Han. Heck, look at the prequel trilogy.
So clearly there is room for expansion in something as popular and with the following of Buffy. If they did a Faith spinoff, or any other titles in the same world, I'd watch it for sure. But at the beginning, I think I'd have a tough time getting over no Buffy.

Nah, i'd never watch it. I watched Buffy because I loved the characters, if I wanted to watch a Vampire show with different characters i'd watch True Blood.
I would love to see it continue. And controversially not necessarily with Joss at the helm. I know, I know, coming from a Joss fanbioy such as myself this seems an odd thing to say, but so long as Tim Minear, David Fury or Jane Espenson was running the show it would still be in good hands. Of course Joss being in charge would make me so giddy I'd have to squee but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me watching it.
The lore of the Slayerverse is ripe for picking from any time period throughout history, so we could have a show of medieval Slayerdom or even a movie set in the distant fure a la Fray. I dearly loved Buffy, Angel and the original characters but that isn't to say that a next-gen show couldn't be even better than the original with more compelling characters and even better storylines. It worked for Star Trek after all.

Well, yes, if it's done right. It would definitely need Joss Whedon (not necessarily as writer but maybe as creator/supervisor and consultant). That's pretty much the foundation.
It also should closely relate to BtVS and Angel. Just a new Slayer series would be weird and it would look like a copy or something.
Anyway, I'd be very interested. I just hope they would have some of the original cast show up now and then. 😛

I agree... If they continued the Buffyverse I would want Joss to be involved. I realize that the original actors from BTVS have moved on and that is fine; I wouldn't mind seeing new characters as storylines but it wouldn't feel right unless it had the same feel as BTVS to me.

I have mixed feelings about it, on one hand I'd love to see another side of the Slayerverse, but I'd also be very nervous that the project would turn into an oversexed, hair bleached, teenybopper melodrama that is vastly different from the verse we know now.

Very true to my feelings on the matter. But on the other hand would Joss let us down? I don't think he would to be honest...It would be nice to see ?TVS or whatever else it would be called lol...I don't read the comics so I don't know how it would tie into that world.

Considering the number of irons that Joss currently has in the fire, probably having him as executive producer, with someone like Fury or Espenson, familiar with his vision of the Buffyverse, actually running the day to day operation, would be about the only way that something like that would have any real chance of working and retaining the quality and content of the original characters and shows.
Now all that we have to do is convince Joss to push for a new series or movie. My suggestion would be something based on "Fray," because it is within the Slayerverse, but still far enough removed from Buffy and the other familiar characters to be able to stand immediately on its own merits. I would even settle for an animated production, as long as the quality was kept high, and that format might even appeal the most to Joss, since he likes doing new things, and he's never done one before.

Ooooh I would love a "Fray" series! I haven't read the comics, but I've read about Fray and the summary of her comics, so I would really like to see a series on her. She's pretty awesome!

I would say Yes. Not that I know where the series has been heading since the comics kicked in. But I would have been okay with no-buffy from the moment she sacrificed herself fighting Glory. The show could have conitnued from there..
However, that's where my problem is.. I would have been all about following the Scoobies, and way less about following the next Slayer.
They could have given Buffy a great death like at the end of S5 or it could have been as random as Anya's..

I don't think Joss would let us down, but I'd be worried if he had a minimal or no role in it at all. Like, if they took the Buffyverse concept and created a show using today's successful teen drama formula. How many more human-vampire triangle relationships do we need in one verse, you know?
The trouble for me with a Buffyverse without Buffy is that they have not developed characters other than Willow, Spike, Angel or possibly Faith sufficiently, IMVHO of course, to continue.
Willow and Spike could be developed into great characters with their own verse - Faith and Fray, possibly, but personally I don't think that I care enough about either to keep reading. Angel and the AI Team were great and I could see a new series that would spin off from the Angelverse origins. But Angel himself - it has, IMO, been too many years and too many times where Angel has gotten the "free card" so he would have to be die in some final redemption self-sacrifice and the new characters and series would take off from this point.
But the sad fact for me is that I have become so invested with the TV era characters that these are the characters that hold my interest. There are still so many things that could be done with the original characters and the history and origins of Slayers and of the CoW, and individual stories about Slayers.
If it is new characters that are wanted, some fans would say that time-travel plots are lame and too easy, but I would be interested in having a great story with the current characters going back in time.
The story of Slayers for the sake of a Slayerverse - I don't think it would keep my interest. There are too many great books to be reading for me to keep going with new Slayers just for the sake of a Slayerverse. But then I am not a reader of comic books other than the Buffyverse.
I do however know that there are some outstanding graphic novels and I have started reading some of them. But I really don't want to ever get involved with reading a long series ever again.
