If you had a spell that could bring someone back from the dead, would you? And if so, who would it be, and why?

Do you believe that what's dead should remain dead?

Again, who would you bring back from the dead? And why?

That's something I'd have to think deeply about and would depend on all the factors, though in the Buffyverse I would not, though this is based on what we see of them (pity that Tara couldn't explain why these spells were wrong, merely sounding dogmatic, but assuming she actually learned something then those details could affect my choice).

Though a hilarious dream I had was I actually dreamed I was Jesus (though still me at the same time). And then I got the idea of, "If I'm Jesus then I can raise my best friend from the dead!" So I willed it, but I messed it up and instead started a zombie apocalypse (I wonder if I'd seen the Simpsons Halloween special with that theme shortly before having this dream?). It got even more surreal as I escaped a zombie horde on a dogsled in East Texas (that is, no snow). Though what was really funny about it is that the zombies were trying to eat my flesh as zombies do (ghouls, technically, but everyone calls them zombies these days thanks to Hollywood) and after I woke up I mused on what any Jesus would think of the religion around him that typically incorporates a ritual eating of his flesh and drinking his blood...😱

That's one hell of a dream!
So, I believe in heaven and the afterlife which makes this a no.
Bringing someone back to life goes against how I view death, which is as both an ending and a beginning.

Err what? Would you explain those statements in greater detail?
thrasherpix,
so in this dream you thought you were Jesus, and so you raised a person from the dead but you did it wrong and got a zombie? That is not how a zombie is created, its got nothing to do with Christianity.

Not for the younger person to read.....
As far as the series is concerned I do, quite often. I put a disc in the DVD player and bring the characters back to life which is really clever of me, when you consider the BuffyBot.
It's probably a good thing Joss didn't make the series a sexually explicit one, as then it'd be the BuffyBotty.

In other news, @ILLYRIAN was brought back from the dead...yet no one could tell the difference between the "live" him and "dead" him.

Hehehe.

Flip me, clever aint I, I brought myself back from the dead without realizing it.

I wonder when I brought myself back from the dead, any input Anyanka Bunny Killer?

My dear ABK,
Oh go on, please, I won't check the dates just to see if you accidentally said something nice about me.

@ILLYRIAN I would rather not go into detail. I don’t want to anger anyone by discussing religion. I’ll just say since I assume we’re talking about resurrection and not simple resuscitation, death is the end of life on earth and the beginning of new, eternal life.

I could agree to bring someone back to life but only for a day or so. I think once you are done, you are done but I would love a last meal with the people I have loved and lost. I would love them to meet my son too!

Yes, I would. But only if I killed them first. How fun would that be? You hear people talk about it in shows - 'I'm so mad I could kill you twice' - but to actually do it. Yeah, man. Right on. You could be a serial killer without leaving any dead bodies in your wake.

Bringing someone back to life is not a problem, its a bit like giving a person life, women might view this as baby.

Some folk have weird notions.

Yeah, I wouldn't either. Death is a natural process, and who is to say that a death came at a wrong time? Plus, you never know where they could be, and you might be taking them away from somewhere they don't wish to leave. And on top of that, similar to how the Buffyverse works, something like that might have unforseen consequences. In fact, it is hard for me to see how it couldn't, in some way or other.

And finally, like it has been mentioned above by @Fool for Buffy , to me, the darkness of the tomb is also the darkness of the womb. So a circle should be left a circle, to me.

What's dead should stay dead.

I don't believe in heaven and hell, but I still don't think resurrection is ever the right thing. I do believe in reincarnation, however, so that's another sort of bringing someone back 😉

Well, it really depends.
Not to a zombie like state obviously.
Not if someone died of old age and will be resurrected to the same age and he/she will just die again soon.
Not if it doesn't also cure the illness that killed someone. Having terrible pain and just being resurrected to the same pain is just evil.

But if someone died in some kind accident and you could resurrect them in good shape.
Absolutely, why not. It's like saving someone from dying. Just a little bit later... 🙂

sk73,
not to a zombie like state obviously. As I understand that, you are referring to the stupid Hollywood version.
In Voodoo a person has two souls, if that person dies and goes to the next place that person might,
if the person wishes, return. But the returnee will only have one soul and that person would be a zombie.
