Would you have wanted to see an Angel version of "OMWF"?

I mean, they did "Spin the Bottle", which clearly had a lot of influence from "Band Candy", so it wouldn't have been unprecedented. I think it would have been pretty hilarious if they'd had Sweet come back during Angel S3 (although I do realize that would have presented some network entanglements), done virtually the same premise and not even try to hide it. They wouldn't even need all of L.A. to be affected (even though that was a huge part of the charm of OMWF).

So throwing any of the possible studio problems aside, would you have wanted to see it? If it had happened, what do you think the main cast at the time in AtS S3 (Angel, Cordy, Wes, Fred, Gunn and Lorne) would have sung about?
 
I could have seen it happen, but Angel is, as many people often say, a lot darker in tone than Buffy was. So, a musical would most likely have been a far off thing to do. Still, it would have been enjoyable to watch! 😛

What they would all sing about? For some reason, I could see Angel starting off trying to sing something that sounded happy, but he then basically broods over Buffy for abit 😛

Cordy...man, I can see SO many options with that one. I could see something about how much the visions hurt her happening though.

The rest I literally have absolutely no idea. Could have something to do with the fact I'm extremely tired right now.

Well, Angel and Cordy are canonically horrible singers, so...
 
Nope. I have to confess to being one of the few avid OMWF haters out there. I could never finish the episode without fast-forwarding through he musical numbers - because they are just so awful. I know I am a minority, but the combination of bad singing with bad lyrics and illogical plot centered on need for singing just kills me every time. Maybe my musical ear is just too sensitive, but I think it would have been even worse in AtS if everybody were singing. Ugh. AtS had its very sensible and well-performed singing episodes by Lorne - and it was just right, because it was logical, well-sung and beautiful.
 
I don't think so, if for no other reason than that it was a well established fact that Angel's attempts at singing bordered on cruel and unusual punishment to the listeners. To have him suddenly be able to sing would go against everything established in the series. Of course, if the spell that made everyone else sing made him mute, that might work.
 
My initial reaction to this question was 'OH LORD, YES!', but after reading what others have said I can see why that would be a bad idea. I mean, for one thing we've Heard Angel, Cordy, Wes and Gunn sing and I don't think I could take a whole episode of that.

I can see it being very similar to OMWF (other than the singing, of course), because that was all about the characters showing their true feelings through the songs that they sang, but they were not always heard. If everyone on Angel was singing constantly, then Lorne would be constantly reading and no one would be able to hide anything!

Yeah, Im glad they didnt do any more singing. I do like OMWF but Im very glad I didnt have to sit through the Angel cast singing. It probably would have all been super depressing too.
 
I would love to have seen that and a visit by Sweet would have been... sweet!

Lindsay would have been the star of that episode, just like Tara was in OMWF. One of the most spectacularly creepy movies of all time is "Fallen" where the demon Azazel possesses various people and makes them sing. Maybe Joss was afraid of having this become a trademark of his shows, and that is a valid consideration.

The singing done on Angel was deliberately bad for the purposes of the plot. The actors could put together a much better performance with some plot device like the Lorne's ability to determine futures from hearing someone sing being temporarily augmented by a spirit that is also interested in the future and helps them sing better.

OK, where is the application form to join Joss' stable of writers? Must be on this board somewhere!
 
The fun thing about OMWF is how it progresses an ongoing story forwards

With Angels darker tones I dont think it would have the same effects.
 
No, definitely not. "Angel" has always been a darker show, with more mature themes and not so much of the campy humor that BtVS has... I don't think a musical episode would fit at all.
 
It would've been intersting but I agree with the others, the atmosphere of the show is just too dark for a musical. I really don't see it fitting in right for Angel. But it's nice to think about.
 
I don't think it would fit the show, but just for the record J. August Richards has a beautiful singing voice, which he demonstrates briefly in season 5 when he sings a short Gilbert & Sullivan line to cover up his rapping when Wesley walks in on him.

I hear what you guys are saying about the overall darker tone of the series, but at the same time, they did "Spin the Bottle" in S4, which was pretty funny. I kind of forgot about Lorne when I wrote this thread, so he would have to be a pretty central part of the episode if were ever to happen.
 
Wouldn't mind it per se... but if they had done it they better had come up with a very good, and unique, reason for everyone to start singing.

I don't mind much when different shows does similar kind of episode. That's hard to avoid.
But when shows that are so close connected as Angel and BtVS they can't copy too much from each other.

Spin the bottle is already close to be a - done that, seen that - episode.
Still unique enough to get away with it though imho.

To get away with doing a reprise of OMWF on Angel it would need to be a whole other spin to it than the original version.

I wouldn't have liked it, not only for the Angel singing part, did read that David and Charisma had both said they didn't want to do a singing ep, but also I don't think it would have fit in anywhere, besides Angel already did have a lot of singing anyway,

But also, 'Angel' always had a lot more musical influences than 'Buffy' ever did. Much of Angel thrived on music with Lorne and Caritas being such large features. In Buffy we didn't have that. So in a way we got musical-ness in Angel but in a more common way that was also very comedic as it was very rare to find a talented singer on the show.

I agree with your main point, but Gunn sings beautifully - remember the season 5 episode when he sings a short Gilbert & Sullivan line to cover up his rapping when Wesley walks in on him. His voice is gorgeous.
