I've read all the Buffy season 8 trades, and I love them. I Also have the first 4 onimbus'es and I dont really care for them that much.
I was thinking about picking up Angel: ATF, but is it any good? Is it like Buffy Season 8?

Buffy Omnibuses aren't comparable because Joss didn't write them, After the Fall, like Season 8 was written by Joss and his team.

I think After the Fall is pretty great. I'd rank it on par with the first 3 arcs of Season Eight and far above the last one. I strongly recommend AtF, but let me warn you, IDW pulled a fast one and kept the AtF title on their own publication. The real AtF (written by Joss and his team) is #1-17, #18+ is written by an IDW contractor, and it's pretty terrible.

And while this particular board has some haters, they do not represent the consensus. In reality, After the Fall is the highest grossing comic series in IDW history!

Also Joss confessed that some of Buffy Season Eight "got away from him" and lacks direction in places, where Angel: After the Fall is extremely similar to the first Arc of Angel Season 6 that Joss, Fury & Bell planned on airing on the WB.

I am not farmiliar with Angel S6 so I can't say. Try looking up some reviews online. I do know what happens, though. I read the summaries. I have been keeping up with the Buffy S8, though.

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend you check them out. ATF was a really great ride and well worth your time and money.

Here's a review by IGN (RottenTomatoes' counterpart)
"Even with less fanfare and overall resources to draw from, I think Angel [After the Fall] compares quite favorably (and in some ways even better) with its sister title [Buffy Season Eight]."

"Franco Urru's main strength would be his drawing the various demons Angel & Co. run across. Each is unique and menacing in their own ways, but the human (and human-ish) characters are a little less even. (...) Even with the uneven art, this is still developing into a solid series. Longtime Angel fans will be especially interested in learning more about the huge plot point at the end."
^The review is full of spoilers, so those are a few non-spoilery excerpts.

They scored it 8.1/10 (Impressive)

If you like waht you read, don't forget to buy the Spike after the fall hardcover. They're kind of a prolouge to Angel after the fall, but you don't have to read them before Angel after the fall.

I actually like those four issues more than the other seventeen.

And if you come to really like After the fall, you might like other Brian Lynch(the writer, who I actually think might have done more for the story than Joss) Spike comics,
like Spike:Asylum, 5 issues (I think) and Spike-Shadow puppets, 4 issues (I think.)

Btw, that's the order hey should be read.

yeah I probably will pick up Spike ATF eventually.

I also recommend Spike After the Fall, it's probably the best concise comic put out for the Buffyverse. If you do pick it up, you might want to get it before you buy Angel After the Fall Book #3 as that story kicks off in Angel Book #2. And Angel Book #3 takes place after Spike.

I really liked Angel after the fall. It's not perfect, but imo its a nice continuation of the show, unlike season 8, which I have never liked.
If Angel season 6 was on tv, I would watch it, if Season 8 of Buffy was, I would switch off.
Give it a try, I think it's worth a read anyway. 🙂
