I've heard so much about it, and some people have told me how good it is. And I'm a huge Buffy fan, So I do like Joss's work. Do you think I should give the dvd of firefly a go?

I loved the humor in buffy above all. Does Firefly have that? I'd have to buy the Boxset to watch it, So i cant really "test it out".

Thanks!

well, i bought the box set without ever seeing an episode, just 'cause it was a Joss thing...and i completely loved it! it's funny, moving, extremely well written and acted, and most of the cast and crew have worked for Joss before, on either Buffy or Angel, so i'd say go for it!

Buy the box set, I'll refund you myself if you regret it later on XD

Firefly can take a bit longer to get into than Buffy, as there is a much larger core cast (9 in total, all introduced before the end of the first episode), but after a few episodes I'm sure you'll be hooked.

Whether you watch Firefly or not, Serenity is a must-see. But I reckon it's twice as good when you've seen the series first.

Firefly is like the inverse of Star Wars viewed with a microscope. Its about staring into the vast void of space feeling entirely irrelavant and understanding that it will one day swallow you whole. That life is not some grand battle, that good doesn't prevail, that there is no good. With idealised solitude and forced awareness its about fighting without hope, fighting only to exist.

Well I can speak from the perspective of someone who avoided Firefly for a long time. I didn't think I would like it at all, and I didn't like the actors much when they were on Angel/Buffy.

So I caught a marathon of it on tv, and LOVED it. It really is terrific. Well made, great characters.

I did exactly the same, and Firefly had already been cancelled by the time I was lucky enough to see it.

I liked it that much I got the boxset. 😀 There's plenty of humour, really great characters, and well, honestly, I seriously doubt that you will be disappointed with it.

More than likely when you've finished watching the DVD's, you will be wondering why the hell some lame brain cancelled the show! I know I was. 😉

Ok so ive got the boxset. I watched the first episode, but it didnt get me that excited...Simon is pretty cute, and Wash seems funny. Im intriged at what Simons sister will be able to do. I'll keep watching tho.

Wash is easily my favorite character, he's awesome!
I just watched all the Firefly episodes in the last two days and Serenity the movie. I thought the series got good towards the end and the movie rocked. Objects in Space was the best episode by far for me.

I guess I've always been into the super hero thing which is why I liked Buffy and Angel, but there's no real super hero in Firefly until the end; the slender 17 year old girl, River, turns out to have some special powers which she uses extensively in the movie.

The series had real potential but it got nipped in the bud before it really had a chance. In hindsight, they should have developed River sooner and given her a bigger role earlier on in the series. Imagine if Serenity the Movie had been the first double episode, and then the series had launched off from there...

Only one problem with the movie being first

Hidden for Mogwaids benefit
Wash and Book die in the movie. For a start, it wouldnt have the same emotional impact that early on and secondly thats getting rid of 2 main characters right away

Hindsight is a bitch isn't it?

To be honest though, I think they were right to develop River more gradually. Like Wicked, I'm not wanting to say too much in this thread for Mogwaid's benefit but having her be "kickass supergirl" from episode one would have removed a lot of the mystery of the show, which would have been a shame. If I recall, the main story elements of the movie were going to be the main arc of season two of the show, I believe. Also. the series had already dropped many hints about what River was capable of. I think two season would have been fast enough for the big reveal.

The thing is, the way Joss told the story would have made no difference to how it ended up. Firefly was doomed right from the start due to factors that had nothing to do with what made it onto the screen. With that in mind, the only option was to tell the story exactly how he envisioned it and hope for the best. Yep, it got cancelled but I'd rather see 15 episodes of the story Joss wanted than seven seasons of a show that compromised to get ratings.

Remember how slowly we discovered the truth about Angel and his past? That would have worked for River too. Shame that it wasn't allowed to happen.

Maybe if they had shown the episodes in the right order instead of starting with The Train Job things would have been very different. We culd still have it on TV now.

Or better yet, if it had never gone to Fox in the first place! That network hasn't had a clue how to promote science fiction since even before the X-Files ended, no matter how good it may be.

i bought firefly after meeting Summer Glau.. dont know why.. i guess the hot guy that was working at the stall (Supernova) convinced me 😉

i havent watched it yet lol
