Would You Swap Dollhouse for a Television Buffy Season 8?

Angel wouldn't really need to be reworked. Joss & David Fury said that the only difference that Angel's cancellation brought was Wesley's death. Aside from that it was planned to go the same way and S6 was going to pick up in the Alley.

you misunderstand lol i would have it so that Angel season 4 would be different, and then the jasmine stuff would be in season 5, while season 6 would deal with W&H and moving in. This is just my dream fantasy world way of how i would have loved angel to be done.

but as far as the cancellation, are you sure? Im pretty sure upon getting cancelled, they sort of wrote illyria in there as well.

Dollhouse is great, and we have the comics, so we'd actually be getting less

Also, there's always the possibitlity the season 8 would be really shitty. It would be very different
 
I've been thinking about this question, and while I'm not a fan of Dollhouse I'm not sure I want Buffy back for a few reasons.

1. It's been like five years. The actors have all moved on to other stuff. Aly is on HIMYM, Amber has her books etc. Now some of them like Nick and Emma haven't done much since it ended... They have all aged though, they would need to do a time skip plot or something.

2. While Season 7 wasn't my favourite and the final episode was really sad because we lost someone amazing, I think it ended on a really powerful note.

3. While I haven't read the comic yet, I can only assume that it can take the series in directions that the show couldn't reasonably do.

Now, an animated Buffy series! I would trade Dollhouse for that in an instant. Either the highschool years deal, or an animated Season 8 with the cast back doing the voices. I'd be totally down for that.

I was just pointing out that Joss, Fury & Bell already planned Angel through Season 6.

Nope, Illyria's presence had nothing to do with the cancellation.

Joss, David Fury and Brian Lynch (Joss' comic producer) all say that the only change made because of the cancellation was Wesley's death, which Joss & Alexis Denisof decided to do together.

They also said that Wesley would have been resurrected if Season 6 got some type of miraculous reprieve.

If you're interested in seeing what Joss had in mind for Season 6, you might want to check out After the Fall. It's written by Joss and he says it turned out remarkably similarly to how he had planned S6.

Your post certainly was worth reading.

I agree with you on the Animated HS season. I don't know how much fun an animated version of the current S8 would be, because the Scoobies are never together, so dialog would be really sparse.

Is there any statements as to what Joss would have done for season 6 (tv wise)? because i could have sworn Joss wrote Not fade way with the intent of a cliffhanger ending.

Again, Joss said it was always the plan for Angel season six to resume dealing with the aftermath of Wolfram & Hart unleashing their wrath on Angel's team in the alley.

The overall premise of After the Fall is what Joss intended for S6. The major points he planned all along were
1.) Angel struggling to be a Champion in a Post-Apocalyptic LA.
2.) Illyria struggling with her identity as an Old One in Fred's body.
3.) Gunn
being turned into a vampire and the "Big Bad"
.
4.) With Wesley by Angel's side, which in After the Fall became
Ghost Wesley at Angel's side due to his death.

Obviously, Spike would have been in the mix, which he was. And I doubt Betta George would have been in S6.

If you're looking for specific interviews, you might want to try Google.com . Joss has spoken about this stuff a lot. As had David Fury (S5 Showrunner).
 
Only if we time warped back and pretended buffy never ended. Otherwise, it's better to leave buffy where it is and enjoy some new and different adventures! yay!
 
practically speaking it's been too long so no.

Back in the day I probably would have, but now I love dollhouse so much and I do get my buffy fix with the amazing comic so I'll go with no as well.
 
I guess it's not the popular opinion, but yes, i'd make the trade in a heartbeat. I have watched all the dollhouse episodes so far, and until #9, i was actually looking at the clock waiting for the others to end - i just haven't been able to get nearly as into it as i could with Buffy, even in season 1 of that show which wasn't as good as the later ones. But even in the beginning of Buffy, it was funny and heartwarming, so i can't just say that it is too early to feel the same way about dollhouse. It might get better with time, but Buffy was already great when it ended, so taking the characters further would likely lead to better stories, from my perspective.
 
I think it's because, well, Joss is a mediocre writer when it comes to plots. He's not bad, but it's not like the overall missions/arcs are so clever. I mean, the majority of the arcs involved some ancient mystical being trying to escape from one place to another.

What Joss is extremely skilled at is the execution of the plots and developing nuanced characters. Dollhouse doesn't allow that skill to shine since Paul is really the only protagonist, and his screen time is minimal. Caroline is the authentic protagnist, but she's locked in a Hard Drive 99.99999% of the time.

So yeah, imo:
Buffy/Angel > Dr. H >>> Dollhouse

Just now i think we have the best of both, because as perny said we get to see what Joss can do in other programs like dollhouse which is far different from Buffy and we can see how he chooses to write the plot and how it differs on what he did with Buffy. Joss's creativity for Buffy is more evident in the comics as he is not restricted to a small screen budget which is good because it creates another dimension on which we can view it, that is whats going to keep this bored going. So now i shall conclued as it stands right now no i would not change Dollhousefor another season of Buffy.
