This is getting interesting. So if you don't mind, how would you describe a christian and what values do they have in the subjects you think are important?
I'm a Christian, Catholic, but I am very much Pro-Choice and pro-Gay Marriage. But I am most definitely a Christian. But from what you said, it sounds like you wouldn't consider me a Christian. I consider a Christian someone who believes in Christ, and his teachings. However I do not believe in mixing my religious views with my political views, and I wouldn't want the person running my country to have their religious views impacting their political decisions.
I'll try to answer both of your replies but I don't want to get too far off topic. I also believe a Christian believes in Christ and his teachings ("There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit", Romans 8:1) Meaning that someone who is a Christian will walk after the Spirit, will center their lives around the Holy Spirit. This means, to me that a person cannont separate their religious views from their political views, they would contradict.
The only issue I will not waiver on is abortion. I would vote for a President who pushes a pro-gay marriage agenda that was pro-life before I supported an anti-gay marriage President who was pro-choice. I'm pro-life because I believe the Bible teaches that abortion is wrong under the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" - Exodus 20:13 (which I acknowledge can be debated but that would be too off topic here and now.)
As far as gay marriage, I do not support it. For a non-biblical stance, it's more based on the fact that I believe a child, in order to develop successfully, needs a strong mother and father figure in their life. I know that there are billions and jillions and so on number of kids who don't get that and still are successfull, but I believe in giving every child the best chance they can get. I also believe (and I know this will probably ignite fire in people but hey, you asked) that God ordained homosexuality as a sin.
(Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.")
So as a follower of the Bible, I believe it's wrong and would not want a pro-gay marriage agenda pushed.
My intention is/was not to offend anyone so please take this as my opinion and upbringing and not a judgment on anyone. I love everyone
