Xander is Spike's male best friend now and Clem is in love with Harmony so my vote is for Xander also 😛

I'm not a Spuffy, so forgive me for my intrusion and if this post bother you I will delete it and I will apologize. I'm very curious why, as a Spuffy you are, you all want a Spuffy wedding ?? I'm wondering that because it seems very OOC for both characters for me and I don't think it's in the spirit of the relation if you understand what I mean.

I don't particularly want a wedding, it's not important to me, but marriage is still seen by many to be the 'next step' in a relationship. I don't think it's completely ooc for either of them. Buffy imagined her wedding to Angel several times IIRC, so she has thought about it. I imagine Spike would gladly marry Buffy tomorrow if that's what she wanted 🙂

But as you said it to me several times in the past lol, Buffy isn't the same person when she is with Angel and when she is with Spike. Wanting be married with Angel doesn't mean she wants the same thing with Spike. Plus, I really thing that nowadays she is no longer interested by that whoever is the husband.

Buffy could still see marriage as the natural next step. She believed it in S6 for Xander and Anya, and she seemed envious of Riley and Sams relationship.
There's part of Spike that is still William, the Victorian gentleman and eternal romantic, so he too might see marriage as important. I think he'd wanted that with Cecily

Spike's a people pleaser, it's part of his genetic makeup be it sitting with his mother, caring for dru, letting Angelus put his hand in the sunlight....he is happiest when those around him are well cared for and happy. I like that about him.

I can't see them getting a typical "happy ending", not to mention that as marriage is a lawful union, that human law wouldn't really cover a human marrying a vampire.
But honestly, it's not all that important. I mean it's nice to have that bit of paper, but it's not a necessity and people can be just as happy cohabiting.

I do believe, that the right time to get married is, when you don`t "need" it anymore and when it won`t change you relationship at all. So my answer to the original question would be, that I would be happy for them to get married, if that leaves their relationship the way it is now, but I wouldn`t miss anything, if they didn`t get married.

As I said before, to me a marriage is in the spirit of a relationship, when that relationship doesn`t need the marriage. So, if it is not in the spirit of their relation, it is just then and only then the right time, to actually do it. But if they don`t, it wouldn`t matter.
I think, that was not about marriage, but about the wedding. The whole fairy tale, horse carriage, white princess-dress, church bells and so on thing. I don`t think, she would want that anymore. If I would imagine a Spuffy wedding, it would be very different from that imagination and would be much more relaxed and casual.

I see your point. Maybe my vision is wrong because when I think of Spuffy I think of the series and not the comic. That's probably why I can't imagine both characters married.
Agreed, and the Spuffy wedding wouldn't be formal at all. I imagine it being spur of the moment, rushed but fun.

Joss Whedon: You know what, I liked Spike. With Angel it’s too “Romeo and Juliet”. Which means, as soon as it happens you’re bored. Riley, you know he was a well-adjusted person who loved her in a much, much healthier way than the other two guys. Nobody wants to see that. With Buffy and Spike, they had a real Beatrice and Benedick kind of relationship, in “Much Ado About Nothing”. I think with the wedding, she would have tried to do something fast, but he would have made it elaborate and done everything wrong. It would have been extraordinarily counter-intuitive, and awesome!
Joss has thought about a spuffy wedding so maybe one day. I'm still wondering if S11 was the end since no one is talking about a S12 and also because some things did feel final and like a circle had been completed.

I'm so happy Joss is a Spuffy shipper which honestly makes me think a Spuffy wedding will happen if S12 does but I'm perfectly content with what's been going on now!
S11 would be a perfect end too!

I'm not sure. I read S6/7 as critique of the social system and the conceptual frameworks underpinning the system - particularly the idea of the other (the us/them mentality). I read S11 as revisiting 7. IMO, ILY resolved the relationship at a personal level but it wasn't a declaration within their immediate circle of friends and it certainly wasn't a political statement. Below, Buffy and Spike are still at a distance from the others - the tall building on the left figuratively separates them and on the other side we have the ominous "EXIT" sign. It appears again in an earlier frame and here they're isolated even more.
Also - on the rooftop they're in the open and have a view of their world but they themselves are hidden from view. The door itself? Well while it's an exit from the roof, it also leads back into their home/private/interior space before it leads to an external/public space.
What did interest me was this frame (ignore "A few nights later" - it's the night of the ILY). Firstly, Giles' reference to hybridity and also Spike's reference going back into the shadows and to Harmony and Hamilton (by way of Lin-Manuel Miranda). I've just quickly skimmed the story of the show and I think it might have relevance/parallels. It's surprising how many of the song titles ("World turned upside down") have a resonance. (Given their relationship began with a musical it seems fitting it should culminate with one). I could make a LOT of it but I shouldn't - suffice to say it has marriage and babies and death! I thought this was to give them private moment because it had to be about them only but still close to the scoobies so as to show that Buffy does not need another deathbed and alone at the hellmouth situation to say it so this setting worked out perfectly plus she had never been successful in convincing scoobies that she didn't love Spike but again I am very bad at finding symbolism so you might be on to something

You could be right. I do think it's enough for them - it's just that it isn't enough for me. 🙁I think they accept she loves him and they're quite comfortable with it (which I think is nice). I'm very good (or equally very bad - depending on how you look at it) at finding symbolism so I have a tendency to over-read. It's just that I've always understood him as a metaphor for oppressed social groups (including women) so I'd like him (their relationship) to have greater recognition. Harmony has it but that's through the media - it means they can make a show of inclusivity without it being reflected in real life. That's the political me...the personal me likes what they've got. 🙂
