Ha! When is this supposed to have been written? Around S4/5?
 
Oh actually that doesn't work as Anya is contributing as a 'thwarted bride'..... Ah, okay, I see from the Amazon entry that it is just a light-hearted coverage of the spells that happened within the show kind of thing. So it isn't trying to 'fit' in canon. Sorry, I thought it was being presented as a journal from a specific time and canon compliant etc., but no, it's a just a fun thing it seems. 😛

Well I got that the Something Blue wedding notes were supposed to have been from then. 😉 The voices/tones of the notes aren't very S7 though imo (although obviously it helps that Anya was alive and jilted then). It's all too upbeat and light, too chatty and casual between everyone. It seems to be presented as an official release, but I doubt very much it would ever appear on a list of canon contributory titles. Joss' name doesn't seem to be anywhere near it. As I said, the voices/tone isn't a great fit for S7 I don't think, it doesn't feel like the idea was adapted or worked on to create something intended to be seriously canon compliant and tight for characterisation etc. I'd be surprised if it attempts to add anything new or provide any insight. It just comes across as a release intended to just be a fun, light-hearted read for fans.

They aren't all from S7. Willow's first note is clearly early S5. Spike's note has to be from S6, at a moment they were doing fairly well. The book gets passed around and sometimes people scribble things down.
 
Well, my point still stands, if the notes are all from undetermined times (even though they read like a 'chat' conversation), it isn't taking trouble/time/effort to prioritise fitting to canon in order to broaden character understanding or add in wider detailing. I'm sure it is just supposed to be a light hearted extra for fans, not canon contributory, more of an encyclopaedia style list of the spells across the series done in a fun way. It doesn't come across as something to take seriously at all and Joss hasn't been involved in the slightest or I'm sure they'd plaster his name against it eagerly.

The comments are quite easy to date. Willow's are s5. Xander, Anya and Spike's are s6. Giles, Andrew and Dawn's are s7.

I know they are quite silly, but I love the idea of them having a book like this. Willow did declare to Tara that she would chronicle every breakfast bagel.
 
I need to adjust the timeline a little. Spike's note has to be from S7, but it feels really weird, as I don't think Spike and Buffy would be joking like that in s7. Damn!

Spike's note can be from s6, Buffy's birthday party where they were all stuck inside the house due to Dawn's wish, they had a lot of time to share diaries then

That's what I first thought, but Spike is responding to Anya's note, which must have been written after Hells Bells.

It is not completely inconceivable that Spike and Buffy could have been writing in S7, but it feels a little bit off.

It doesn't work with S7 for voicing and tone as I said, but I was also agreeing that it was just intended as fun, light hearted. Canon matters, but I really don't think this is trying to pretend it is official in 'that' sense. Joss' name being nowhere near something is normally the biggest indicator of how meaningful it is in the official sense. I'd thought at first it was supposed to work 'properly' then realised it couldn't/didn't. Which is fine, not everything produced has to be canon or serious, this grimoire is clearly just a bit of fun, and can be enjoyed as such. 🙂

That's a great manip @TriBel. I'm pretty sure (but happy to be corrected), that pic of JM originally has him on a motorcycle.

Wasn't they're 'who you gonna call' joke from S7, and the shared joke at the potentials expense in the demon bar. These two had a secret giggle together even in the worst of times 🙂

The Roof Top scenario location has been used many times since the start of Season 9 - it has been used for many of the pivotal events for Buffy and Spike from season 9 until this finale and it was used as well for the blow out between Buffy and Xander as well. Buffy also has had personal moments of clarity with the roof top location. Way back in the start of Season 9 she has her encounter with another set of Slayers whom she has to fight against and this season brought back that theme with Jordan and her Slayer Thug Team but this season the roof top is used as a recognition of family and finding peace for Buffy and Spike and their relationship. That exit sign has also been part of the roof top scenario locations - pretty sure I am remembering this correctly -

Yes, but I think Spike would be very careful about making jokes about the status of his and Buffy's relationship. He was slowly gaining Buffy's trust and he would not dare spoil that by making her define what they had.
