[Chasing Cordy]

Which charcater do you believe is the toughest and/or easiest to write?

I always thought Anya would be the toughest and Xander would be the easiest.

I cant imagine any of them would be easy. Especially since there are lots of different writers and they all have to write for the same characters.

I'd imagine the Trio were easiest though because I remember Joss saying that the Trio were basically the writers. Things the Trio say are things that the writers have said and such.

Why would Anya/Xander be hardest/easiest?

I've always found Gunn a hard character to get a handle on. The problem is to write him accurately without falling too much into the stereotype black character. Something that the ME writers did so well.

GUNN: Where's Cordy?

WESLEY: We don't know. Not here.

GUNN: You checked her pad?

ANGEL: I stopped by there earlier.

GUNN: You enjoying your visit to nineteen seventy three? (Picks up a memo pad) I meant her message pad.

Hehe, classic bit of dialogue!

For me the easiest character has always been Spike because my attitude and humour are quite similar. As a character on the show I always identified most with him so that probably relates to why I can write for him.

for me, the hardest character to write is Oz. it's hard to remember that he doesn't say a lot, so i try not to give him too many monologues or however it's spelt. but then i tend to go the opposite way and not give him much at all, and he's left in the background. that's why i tend to stay away from Oz if i'm writing a fic based on that time frame.
the easiest chracters for me to write are usually my favourite characters, like Spike, Connor, Faith, Buffy and Xander...well, Xander 'cause he's basically a guy version of me, with his sarcasm and jokes that sometimes people don't get.

In the beggining I think Willow was the hardest to write for cause her way of talking back then, she was the most verbaly unik. Hm, that more and more evened out, right. The others kinda picked up on it and she toned it down a bit, they met somwhere in the middle. Correct me if Im wrong here, but is'nt Willow the scoobys biggest basical verbal influence.

For me? Spike. ALL of the characters are very layered, but Spike's seem to be the most complex and challenging. He's got this flow, and I feel like it's hard to match that to the actual Buffy/Angel writers, so I have trouble when I stumble upon dialogue for Spike. It's like, if I mess up one line, or even one word, I destroy Spike's whole character in the peice.

Easiest for me would be Willow. A fair bit of her dialogue sounds like it comes straight from me, because it often doesn't make much sense, or just sounds like something I could say. If I write something for Willow, I probably can't go wrong, because all I have to do is put what I would say in the situation.

xander, willow, and oddly enough, giles were the easiest ive ever had to write. i dont know why. maybe, for willow and xander at least, because they've been in almost every episode, so im used to hearing the way they talk...but it wasnt as easy for me to write for buffy. i dont know if this came through in anything ive posted on BB, but their voices seem very clear in my head and their dialogue comes semi-naturally to me.

anya, for me, is easy to write, except when she's still a demon. writing for anyanka has posed as a great challenge for me in the past. im too used to her the other way i suppose. also oz. he doesnt say a lot, and what he does say is supposed to be deep and/or important. also, when you write for him, you sometimes have to communicate a lot of feelings into just a few words, which i cant seem to do.

for the writers, i think they probly wouldve gotten the hang of all the characters, making them all pretty easy. they might also have had trouble with oz though.
