WWE Superstar found dead

Re:

I have to say last night when I watched the tribute, I cried, thinking that it was so unfair. And how sick do you have to be to kill a little boy? When I read the details of their deaths this morning on Yahoo News I about swallowed my tongue. I had been a pretty big Benoit fan. The man was phenomenal in the ring...But last night the superstars kept going on about how Benoit was a family man, and how he respected everything and everybody. The fact that he not only murdered his family, but sat in his home with the dead bodies for days...It leaves me speechless. I guess it proves one thing....You never really know somebody till you've been inside their head.
My heart goes out to his other two children, and the rest of his family.

Not days. day. I read he killed them on Sunday and himself yesterday. Not exactly better but still...

I heard about this on one of the candle lists belong to....what a tragedy! I hope it doesn't turn out to be a murder/suicide scenario, but I guess we won't know until the reports are concluded. Benoit must have been the blackest depths of Hell to have done something like this, if that is indeed what happened.

They just released the details of what happened and I can't believe this. I don't know how to feel. I'm so sick to my stomach right now. God, how could something like this happen?

I mean, we figured last night when RAW went from a "tribute" to a retrospective of his career, something was wrong. They've now taken down all tribute videos on their site. Which, I can't blame them.

This is really upsetting. I just don't know how to feel. How am I supposed to feel about this? Benoit was someone that as a wrestling fan, I upheld with the upmost respect. Not just me, but alot of wrestling fans. I mean, this all just is really crazy right now.

A job on the road for over 275 days of the year. Steroid use, recovery from a broken neck, painkiller abuse, a wife that filed for divorce and custody in 2003, narcotic abuse, alchol abuse.
All of this to make a lot of money to give his family a comfortable life...this scenario is all too familiar and one of the reasons I stopped watching wrestling and I watched wrestling for over 30 years.
You name all the wrestlers who have died in the last 5 years and I remember them all when they first broke into WWF or WCW. And I remember how 'small' their physique was or how they did not look 'chiseled'.
Sadly this will not be the last time this happens until Vince McMahon is stopped by governments that allow him to skirt the steroid laws by not calling wrestling a sport but an entertainment event.

i don't know what to say right now...my head is telling me that this is sick, it's wrong. how can anyone murder a seven year old boy, never mind their own son!!
but my heart is telling me to mourn the passing of a great entertainer! i've never been so confused in my life.

something must have happened...i can't believe Chris just woke up and decided to kill himself and his family. i am in no way condoning what he's done, i'm just wondering what caused him to act like this.

Have to agree with you Lyri...
Over the last 11 years I have been on a lot of medications that if you are not careful with you will not only have severe physical side effects but major psychological issues as well if you take them together or too close with each other. I was on corticosteroids (this is a steroid your own body produces) and people after a couple of months just stayed away from me because my personality changed so much. Think 300 lb bear with sore arse screaming 24/7.
If his personality had changed over time to the point he reached this past weekend friends in the industry would have noticed it first. So with the comment from the cops about "a lot" of prescription drugs (anti depressants maybe?) and steroids in the house one wonders if he took the wrong drugs together and just went into a dark hole?
I'm not trying to make an excuse here I'm just trying to cope...maybe the toxicology report will help the investigators to form a possibility for this bizarre incident.

Got this from pwinsider.com

It was noted that Nowinski is trying to persuade the coroner examining Mr. Benoit to allow a brain exam to look for neurofibrillary tangles in the brain's cortex, which has been refused in the past. Nowinski has previously been able to link the suicide of former NFL defensive back Andre Waters to concussion induced depression based on forensic work done on Waters' brain matter. "Part of me hopes there was something wrong with his brain," Nowinski told the Times. "The Chris Benoit I knew was always more concerned about everybody else's well-being than his own."

I don't know. He had to have major issues, obviously. I just hope that WWE takes note of whats happened here and they don't overwork Chavo. He's had it really rough this last year. Being the one to find Eddie and he was the one that recieved the texts and last phone call from Benoit. Mentally that's gonna take a huge toll on him. Poor Chavo, my heart goes out to him.

Re:

I agree with Evilyn, I feel bad for Chavo. The man has had a rough two years.
I just don't think personally that this had anything to do with steroids.
Maybe a concussion induced trauma to the head. Regaurdless, I think Benoit had more problems than he led on.I mean, he lost his best friend last year. A few years ago his wife filed for divorce and slapped a restraining order on him. She claimed he was "violent and threatning". I don't believe that Benoit was always the way he was before he died. I think morbid depression is possibly the culprit. They said during the interview, that they found quite a few prescription drugs in his home. I'd be curious to find out if any of them were anti-depressants or anti-phsycotics. No matter what the cause, my mind keeps reverting back to the face of his little boy. And I can't help but think....with all of the people around him on a daily basis....How do you let it get that bad?

i'm with Kaylee...Beniot travels with these people every single day for most of the year...if he was this bad, why didn't anyone say anything? why didn't someone notice before this happened?
it makes me think that it was something to do with whatever meds he was taking.

and yeah, Chavo...i can't even begin to think what he's going through right now.

I think one of the worst things about all this for me personally is, had he died any other way, I would be watching my Benoit DVD right now. I'd be watching old ECW and WCW matches and have my Benoit figure prominantely (sp?) displayed. Stuff like that is what eased the pain of Dimebag's death. I can't bring myself to do any of that with Benoit, because it physically makes me sick. I can't pay any kind of a tribute to him, because what he did was too messed up. I know time will heal and stuff, but it's still just so outta left field. Even 3 days later, it's still crazy.

Well, I heard about this by word of mouth at school and at first I thought it was crap, but now I've heard it from all of you, I believe it now. I really can't believe this has happened. I always respected Benoit as a wrestler, but after seeing him do this, it worries me about humanity as a whole. I am deeply disturbed.

Just read this on Wrestling Observer.

by Debbie Fernandez

My name is Debbie Fernandez, wife of the late Ray “Hercules” Fernandez and I am writing to you because I am sickened by the recent tragic event to strike the Wrestling World. I am also appalled at the fact that Vince McMahon is trying to play off the idea that there is not a Steroid Use problem in the WWE. After Ray died, I was too devastated to open up a discussion regarding the deadly roll that Steroid use plays in the lives of these wrestlers, but now, after seeing yet another tragedy, I must speak up. Vince McMahon acquires these young men, who are eager to join the world of wrestling, and who do not know any better and think that they are going to be rich and famous, but at what price?

He all but preaches that his Wrestlers do not take Steroids, and they are periodically tested, now does anyone really believe that? There is a reason why so many Wrestlers have died at such a young age, partly due to the Steroid use, and most importantly because most of them end their wrestling career with NOTHING! They have no health benefits, they have no retirement, and they are just tossed out like yesterdays trash. The only one who benefits from their blood, sweat and tears is Vince McMahon. They wrestle when their sick or hurt because they are so scared to lose their jobs, and they will, so the only way that they can stay in the game is to take steroids. Does Vince McMahon really expect us to believe that he knows nothing about the wrestlers using steroids?

The problem is that like my husband, many of the wrestlers from that era were too loyal to the profession to say anything, because if you rocked the boat, you knew you were on your way out. They just had to suck it up and do whatever it took to keep their jobs. They control everything you do professionally and personally, right down to picking your accountant, so that he can steal you blind. With all the money that the WWE brings in, you would think that they would take care of their investments and offer them the proper benefits that they and their families deserve. Now, I do not believe that Chris Benoit’s actions were caused by Steroid use, but, I do feel that Vince McMahon should be held accountable for the fact that he IS aware of everything that is going on, and that the majority of Wrestlers do take Steroids. When is it going to be enough? When are these guys going to join together and realize that unless they stand up to McMahon and fight for the benefits that they deserve, and that the WWE can afford to give them, they are headed for an early grave.

Sincerely,
Debbie Fernandez

I also read a column the other day and a valid point was made by Bruce Hart (Bret's older brother) all the guys that have died from steroid abuse have been in the early 40's...way too many wrestlers to call it a coincidence and only backs up what Debbie Fernandez just said about Vince and the WWE.

This topic, seriously..? No, seriously?

I read some of this the last time I logged on. I wanted to comment but too many responses popped into my head at once and.. I... was... un.. able.. to.. mock..

I always respected Benoit as a wrestler, but after seeing him do this, it worries me about humanity as a whole. I am deeply disturbed.

God, this is one of the best. In places all over the world there are millions of people dying with diseases, famine, wars. Lunatics are bombing buildings, using innocent people as collateral, young kids are recruited as soldiers. Much of the world is a cesspool, and much of it is caused by greed. This putrid selfish nature that is spreading across the world infecting so many people. And you're worried about "humanity as a whole" because some "wrestler" topped himself and his family..?

Yeah, I agree, you are deeply disturbed.

Stuff like that is what eased the pain of Dimebag's death. I know time will heal and stuff, but it's still just so outta left field. Even 3 days later, it's still crazy.

Totally. Time will heal your pain, your great loss that you've suffered. I just hope you can recover from this personal tragedy. You have my condolences.

I guess it proves one thing....You never really know somebody till you've been inside their head.

This one is the killer. Know him personally did you? Often have drinks with him? Go to football matches with him?... Ever meet him? ok, I get it, being on tv it felt like you and him were tight, you were like best buds. BFFF(don't ask what the extra f means, it's naughty!!)

OR, I didn't read the actual details of the murders, when you say "till you've been inside their head" are you referring to something the guy did to his wife or kid? Did that crazy cat go exploring with a spoon??

I have lost all respect for Chris Benoit. There is NO reason to kill anyone like that, let alone your 7-year old son.................

Nooooo. So he went a little kaka. You should still respect all the charity work he did, and the vast amounts of money he donated to cancer research. Plus his "lets Crippler Crossface* Aids in Africa" project, he put a lot of work into that. Don't disrespect his work for mankind. His lifelong battle to fight and cure terrible diseases, to wipe out famine, this guy did a lot.

this is so heartbreaking...

Tell me about it, why did he only take out himself. Why didn't he wipe out the whole wrestling industry.

i don't know what to say right now...my head is telling me that this is sick, it's wrong. how can anyone murder a seven year old boy, never mind their own son!!

something must have happened...i can't believe Chris just woke up and decided to kill himself and his family. i am in no way condoning what he's done, i'm just wondering what caused him to act like this.

He woke up and realised that he was spending his nights wearing tight shorts and little else, groping other guys wearing tight shorts and little else and worse, it was being broadcast on tv so millions of people could see this. The shame of having such an overtly gay 'job' obviously pushed him over the edge, and he certainly couldn't let his family live on with the shame.

* I had to search wikipedia to find a wrestling 'move'. I can assure 'you' I had no prior knowledge. Thank Lord Lucy.

That doesn't change my opinion about anything.............. The man was a tool.......

Re:

Never once claimed to "know" him...and wouldn't want to. Sorry for your misunderstanding.

Just to set the record straight here, I never knew Benoit personally, but as a 20 year fan of wrestling this was a huge shock to me, personally. Obviously you are not a fan of wrestling, so I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Let me put it like this, if you are on this board then I assume you are a fan of Buffy, correct? Meaning, at some point in time, watching Buffy or Angel was a small escape from everday life, something you enjoyed doing. What if one of the cast members had done something like this? It would be a shock to you as a fan, would it not?

People in this thread need to grieve in some way, whether you like it or not, whether you understand it or not, they still need to. We really don't need someone dissecting our every thought or feeling. It's completely disrespectful and uncalled for you to throw so much sarcasm at the people that have posted here.
