So far just rumors, but, it would not surprise me.

Marvel is planning when and how they are going to incorporate the X-Men in the new MSheU. They are deciding whether to make Professor X or Magneto black, or if they should make both of them black. This is just one of the ways they are attempting to show representation with the new Marvel movies.

Why the hell can't they just stick Storm in? Two PC boxes ticked without the need to genderbend or switch races.

MCU: We want to reflect the diversity of the world around us and promote inclusivity, and we're going to do that by eliminating all white male characters!

The ridiculousness of the PC craze in movies is that they're pushing out the representation of gingers (who do get picked on for the colour of their hair like someone might get picked on for the colour of their skin). Both Ariel (from the little mermaid) and Mary-Jane in Spiderman are renowned redheads (it's one of Ariel's defining features), yet in their most recent movie incarnations (the upcoming Disney remake and the MCU Spiderman movies), they've made them black. No doubt the iconic redhead Jean Grey will also lose her red hair.

If Disney/Marvel really wanted to be inclusive, how about they have a female character who wears glasses! And who doesn't take them off as [art of an "ugly duckling" transformation scene. Bad eyesight affects a whole load of people, regardless of their race, gender, sexuality etc.

Bad eyesight is for life, not just for a beauty transformation.

But by making Professor X an African American they could potentially tick three boxes because he's got that whole wheelchair thing working for him. A guy that flies around and makes it rain can't compare with a guy in a wheelchair.

You just referred to Storm as a "guy" when she is in fact a woman. Isn't that what you were arguing against on the other thread?
Maybe the non-minority fans should start campaigning to recast Black Panther, Storm, and Falcon as white. If nothing else, it might show just how ridiculous this whole thing is. There are several non-white characters in the Marvel canon who could be introduced if they really want a POC representation.

So... there is nothing substantial? Just wild speculation? Isn’t this kind of fake-outrage/irritation over what may or may not happen?

Not saying it couldn’t happen, all of the things suggested here, but for now it seems like being annoyed over nothing?

Kind of good for the MCU though, if people keep talking about them, they’re still interesting enough to matter

I was too lazy to post a link. It was more than speculation. Hence my rumor comment.

Mine isn't fake 😜
I don't think it's always a bad thing, but I also don't think anyone's ever going to really reach an agreement. Either you don't care or you do. With Magneto's holocaust backstory, it's a bit of a hard sell to make him anything but a jewish survivor. Xavier doesn't matter so much, because his appeal and strength has nothing to do with him being white. Isn't he American but British in the movies? No big backlash there.

But you can't really deage him unless you change the dates of the holocaust.

But they clearly won't be able to have that backstory any longer, lest, by the time the movie comes out, they cast a 90 year old actor for Magneto. They will have to change his backstory.

He's been repeatedly de-aged. Even briefly dated Rogue! :')
@sharlto I thought about it and maybe.... maybe.... you could say that his mutation allows him to age slower, which is why he would be alive during the holocaust and yet still a strapping 30-something in the movie. I just think they will change his backstory. It would also help differentiate the MsheU X-Men from the FoX-Men.

@DeadlyDuo Yes, I figured since people said it was acceptable to refer to women as guys then I will start calling them guys. I am glad someone noticed.

Using the word "guys" in regards to women is about a collective group name eg "I'm seeing the guys tomorrow", it doesn't work referring to a singular woman as a guy. Kind of like how a pack of lions is known as a pride but you can't call a singular lion a pride.

I don't see a difference. If there is a group and one women in there then she is a guy, if the group is referred to a guys. Guys is plural for guy, thus she is a guy.

A lion is part of a pride, a lion is not a pride.

Well, he was only the "strapping 30" in the second trilogy, which was supposed to take place in the late '60's. The original version of Magneto, as well as Xavier, looked more like late '50's to early '60's , which would still need to be explained by some sort of mutant longevity, just not as extreme as Logan, who fought in the American Civil War (A K A the War of Northern Aggression)

With what they've already established in-universe, they probably won't follow all the FOX stuff to the letter. I don't have exact issues, but Magneto did get de-aged properly by another mutant in some comic, and possibly again at another point. Xavier's also had his body destroyed, 'played dead' for years on end, consciousness re-transferred, etc. several times. There aren't many hard and fast rules on x-men ageing.

I think they should give other mutants a chance. At the minute, Wolverine is Hugh Jackman, and he did such a good that a replacement isn't going to be so positively received. There are other mutants they could do who didn't really get time to shine in the Fox movies such as Gambit, Rogue (she's practically a shoe in because of Carol Danvers already being in the MCU), Beast, etc.

Although Magneto is the father of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the comics, I believe in AoU they mentioned their parents were dead (and they couldn't use the family connection due to Fox owning the rights to Magneto (as it was there were two Quicksilvers), however there is Polaris who is Magneto's other daughter. She has similar powers to him, therefore she could be used instead, thus ticking the PC box (female) but having the use of Magneto's powers without genderbending Magneto.

The X-Men series has a ton of mutants of varying race, gender, sexuality, religious beliefs, etc so they might choose to use some of the lesser known ones that won't be compared to the Fox movie versions. It worked for guardians of the Galaxy (bringing lesser known characters into the mainstream).

My guess is that they'd stay away from Magneto, Xavier, Wolverine, Jean Grey (and by extension Cyclops) because of the heavy coverage they got in the Fox movies. They've already covered the Phoenix saga twice in the Fox movies, the MCU doesn't need to do it a third time in the next few years.

I think comic-SW only found out that Magneto was her dad a bit later on? I could definitely be wrong, but I'm about 90% sure she was raised by another couple. If they did bring Mags back, they'd probably use that excuse.

if they do have Grey &/or Phoenix, I doubt they do an 'origin' story again any time soon
the MCU doesn't need to do it a third time in the next few years.
But with the hubris of Disney behind it, they would redo it just for the sake of getting it "right"
I mean, look at Spiderman, they rebooted him pretty quick when there were already two other versions.

Everyone was clamoring that finally they get the 'real' Spiderman. So they would clamor about finally getting the real X-Men. Especially if the FF reboot does well.
