Don't they appear like parents this season? It's mostly obvious with Dawn.

Lessons: Xander's responsible appearance and usage of car to drive Buffy and Dawn to school along with Buffy's mom hair and finally paying attention to Dawn. They buy her the cell phone, Buffy doesn't give it to Dawn until Xander is there, the way Buffy pulls Xander's wrest to see his watch (I loved this moment), Xander picking Dawn and Buffy to school everyday.

Beneath You: Again, Xander driving them to school, Dawn asking Buffy not to embarrass her like a daughter asks her mother. I don't blame Nancy for think that Buffy and Xander are together, they do act like a couple in these episodes.

Him: When Dawn embarrassed herself in front of RJ, it was Xander and Buffy who were there to comfort her. Why would Xander help Buffy comfort her when Willow was living with them? Xander comforting Dawn out of school and then when he finds Buffy on top of RJ, he goes all, "Now get off the boy, Buffy. We're going home." He is taking the father role way too seriously.

Never Leave Me: When Spike is kidnapped, it was Buffy and Xander who checked the empty basement, then it was Buffy and Xander who went upstairs and made sure Andrew was okay before they came downstairs together to check on the rest of the children…. I mean, Willow and Dawn.

Potential: Buffy and Xander are the ones making sure Dawn is okay, before Xander takes the stage and helps Dawn to be more confident about herself. He's really the father of the season.

I'm sure there are little moments here and there, but the most obvious one must be that Buffy doesn't trust anyone with Dawn but Xander. She trusted no one to go away with Dawn but Xander, if they all died, she preferred that Xander would raise Dawn alone and no one else. In Chosen, she paired Dawn with Xander, knowing that Wood and Giles are much better fighters, but she still trusted no one with her but Xander.

Then we have Buffy's role as the mother of the season by taking care of all these potentials and her friends. And on top of them all, Spike.

I never really stopped to think about Buffy pairing him with Dawn in Chosen despite others better fighting abilities, so true and very telling indeed.
Well ya know im gonna agree, ive said before that xander keeps them together and than its him and buffy who are close and willow who drifted. I love the icons too.

major kudos for the great examples... i always loved seeing him at the start of lessons all suited and booted in his shiny new car.

someone needed to step up when Giles wasnt there, but even when Giles is back Xander has already grown into that role that Giles isnt needed for that anymore.

I couldn't agree more (with both of the above posts).

Of course, I want to add one thing: this is why I think Xander and Buffy are endgame. She depends on him as her second-in-command in the comics, too. I think they've built a very solid, very trusting relationship and that they treat one another as partners, equals, best friends, and family. Xander and Buffy definitely do act like the parents of the group. They work together very well. I, personally, would love nothing more than for them to realize that that's what's love's all about.

Yeah, I remember my Buffy/Xander friendship thread back when I first joined here, and no one believed the strong friendship they have based on a few fights between Xander and Buffy regarding her boyfriends. I can't believe no one noticed how close they were in S7 after they worked out all their issues.

I think Buffy and Xander work together so well, the history between them and events of S8 shows that clearly. 🙂

I dont think they are like a married couple, I think they are just mates. I haven't read the comics so again I duno really what is going on so much in season 8. But going off the TV show I really dont think they are like parents, just friends. I was very close to my friends little sister and treated her like a sister (fights and all) but I never had a secret relationship with her actual older sister! Xander was just trying to be a good friend in my opinion. Perhaps I would say as an older brother figure rather then a father figure.
But there are some very cute moments in there, especially with Dawn 🙂

I don't think Xander and Buffy were meant to be a couple, but maybe some sort of parents to Dawn, the way Tara was to her in S6 and the way Giles was to Buffy at times. They kinda had that parents-vibe going.

Another point that made them feel like a family was when Willow came home she felt like out of place a little. Xander/Buffy/Dawn were this little family unit and were living life with out her and she felt misplaced. Here's a screen cap showing the "Family Numbers" And has Buffy, Xander, and Dawn's number written down. Not Giles, not willow, not even her father's number, just B/X/D.

hmm, interesting.
I think Buffy trust Xander implicitly because Xander is the only one that hasn't let her down emotionally through seven years. I know its part of Xander's character that he is the only true human that has never had any supernatural powers and he keeps the scoobies grounded. That is what makes him so dependable add that to the fact that he's grown up and has become a success makes him not only the best father figure of limited choices but a good role model in his own right. He struggled through adversity as an everyday man and is an affluent contractor and dispenser of sagely advice. And Merciful Zeus! He has an eye patch!

yay i noticed that too, and shows how out of it willow is... awww willow

the writers were making it obvious with the whole 'family numbers' wrote on the top.

Oh, I agree. Some fans may throw a few examples of Xander not supporting Buffy's choices in boyfriends, but that can hardly be a let-down. Willow attempting to destroy the world, Giles leaving, Spike's attempt of rape and her father's departure are all major let-downs. (Things will change when Spike comes back with a soul, and Buffy will find someone she trusts with her emotions, probably more than Xander, but no matter how Spike becomes in Buffy's heart, he will never be family, the way Xander is.)

Also, Xander was the only one by her side at the moment, that meant a lot to Buffy. Everybody was gone, but Xander was still here.

He is the only clear thinker when it comes to her choice in men, but its understandable, he always liked her... its sad to see him get a bad rep for wanting the big bad of season 2 who wanted to send us all to hell and who killed Jenny (and Willows fish) be defeated. Your logic does not resemble our earth logic. I loved the character of Angelus, but I would have wanted him to be killed too.

Xander is just awsome (what a completely dumb sentance in this thread. OFF SUBJECT!)

he is.... very much so... pardon him if he dont go around killing people and wanting to destroy the world, some girls dont like that 🙂 some just want a man whos good with their hands 😉

I agree buffy and xander could have been a couple in season 7.

i just hated how buffy treated xander in the last half of season 7. she walked over his bleeding body to check on spike who (only had a few cuts) and would not stay at the hospial when he lost his eye saveing her and willow girlfirend.

i was just mad at the start of season 7 he was her best friend but when willow and spike came back he was treated as just a ok friend one that not that close.

ps to all spike fans that want him with buffy. why do you does every fanfiction that has spike coming back you make xander asshole for not trusting spike he has every reason not to. and you make buffy just push all her friend away becouse they not trust or like spike wait away.

i dont think they should be a couple but i totally agree with xanders perspective. and i dont get why people hate him for it... actually think about how many people spike and angel would have killed. Yet somehow people paint Xander to be the bad guy? WTF?!
