Xander and his big secret

I didn't understand a thing about Xander. Season 9 begins with Xander and Buffy that share a secret, and they agreed that it should never be revealed to Dawn. It would seem a very important thing, but... has anyone realized what this big secret was?

Wasn't it something to do with Xander trying to kill Angel before Faith managed to sweep him off back to England?

I admit, I stopped reading the actual comics some time around the bodyguard arc, but I think that was what I figured out. Might be wrong though, lol.

Yes, I thought about it too, but I do not think this would upset Dawn if she had known it. I thought it was something more personal, something that involves more directly Xander.

Maybe it's about that time in Tibet when Buffy had feelings towards Xander? This is something these two should definitely keep secret from Dawn because holy shit does it complicate things or what? I have feelings for my best friend who dates my sister. Also, he was in love with me in high school. Jesus, this is soap opera material.
