Xander and Spike

Did you notice how Xander's attitude toward Spike changing?

He started it out hating him (understandable because Spike tried to rape his best friend) but right after Spike lived with Xander again, Xander's attitude toward him changed to the positive.

- Working together with Spike in Him.

- In Sleeper when Buffy came over to Xander's apartment asking about Spike, he actually asked if Spike was in trouble, which different than "did Spike cause trouble?" Something he would have said in S6.

- When Anya asked Xander to back her up in her 'we must kill Spike' argument, Xander chose to ignore her in Never Leave Me.

- Instead of blaming Spike, like Willow did, Xander suggested that it wasn't Spike's fault that he's killing, it was probably because The First had triggered him.

- When Spike was kidnapped, Xander casted Buffy a sympathatic glance in Bring On The Night when she talked about her need to save Spike.

- In Get It Done, Xander was the only one who considered that Spike can bring the demon, when everybody even Buffy had underestimated Spike.

- In Lies My Parents Told Me, Xander gave Spike a pat on the shoulder for support.
 
I really hadnt noticed this either,but now that i think about it it does seem true... I think Xander did do a lot of growing up, but also i think that the only reason he was like this towards spike was because now he had a soul, so he tolerated spike more.

Angel had a soul and Xander didn't tolerate him at all. I didn't notice it but maybe they bonded off screen in season 7.

I think that was maybe because when they first met Angel, Angel was interested in Buffy and So was he, so his hatred towards Angel started their, even though he had a soul. By the time Spike rolled around, he was over Buffy, and yeah, i think he and Spike went through some bonding stuff.
 
You guys seriously didn't notice any of that? And I thought no one watched season seven less than I did. lol

So, Xander growing up depends on whether he liked Spike or not?
 
No not necessarily but Xander isn't one to let something go, and the fact that he was showing signs of accepting Spike are encouraging.
 
Xander is so complicated. Throughout the show one moment, he's nice to Spike, another one he dislikes him. And Spike for his part was not the nicest toward Xander. I think in S7 both of them started to mature and accept the other.

True but Spike was a vampire...he wasn't nice to anyone unless they were a Summer's woman
 
So there's no reason for Xander to be polite to him.

But in S7, both had matured, and that's long waited for both of them.

I would agree with that.

As for the "long waited" part, though, well, Xander definitely wins on the maturity front. I mean, he's a good century and a quarter younger than Spike. For them to mature at roughly the same time, well, Xander wins. It wasn't that long awaited for Xander, who matured in his early 20s like humans are supposed to. It WAS long awaited for Spike, who was still a whiny mama's boy when he was turned at roughly 30 or so and remained immature for most of his unlife.

See I don't think Spike was immature, he just didn't have a soul, it's kinda hard to grow as a person without one.
 
Yes but he didn't just jump from William to Souled Spike and forget all the middle. Everything that he did in his life were all things that matured him in the was of the world. I mean william and Spike are as a good as strangers, the same with Liam and Angel. Being mature doesn't have anything to do with being polite

You have a good point. I think I stand corrected...

except I still feel this nagging, unjustifiable feeling that Xander is more mature than Spike (up until the kicking Buffy out thing, because at least Spike understands loyalty!). Gosh, I was so mad at the scoobies when they did that!

I;m hoping it's addressed in the comics because I am sooooo not ok with it
 
I'm afraid it won't sadly. It's been a year and a half since it had happened, the Scoobies must have already talked about it and it's a done deal.

Not necessarily, the whole 'kick his ass' thing didn't get addressed for almost 5 years and I think considering the way things are with Dawn and Buffy it will come up eventually.
