Xander And Spike

Do you think that Xander actually hated Spike once Spike started helping Buffy, or do you think that the was mostly just transferring his feelings for Angel/Angelus onto him? I know that, in Season 6, Xander said that he both never trusted, and never forgot that Spike was still a "soulless monster," but distrust and hatred are two entirely different things.

I think he hated him.
I think he hated them both in part because Buffy didn't. Now I'm not playing the 'he was jealous' card. I just mean that he thought (and was right to think) that when it came to both those vampires her judgement was clouded. And I think that caused him to react strongly to counterpart her.

I mean technically that's being a good friend, since technically one could say that her relationship (friendly or romantic) with either vamp was potentially harmful to her and those around her.

Personally, I think it was all just sexual tension. They wanted each other but wouldn't admit it. 😉

With Spike it was give and take though. Not only was he a soulless vampire but he was kind of a jerk to the rest of the Scoobies sometimes and never made any secret of his disdain for them. However when Spike on occasion demonstrated tenderness, like how he expressed his anger at feeling like an outsider on the decision to bring back Buffy, Xander wasn't as 'Xander' as he usually is towards him.

And after he gets a soul he's the first the to defend him with the whole trigger thing. I think Xander mostly matured really.

He hated both Angel and Spike because they're vampire. I don't think jealousy is not the issue anymore. He may just thought Buffy being in love with vampires is not so right. He's kinda nice to Spike in S7, though. I love how they worked together in Him. 🙂

Xander's relationship with Spike is a little complicated, he doesn't trust him since the day Spike said he was going to kill Buffy on Saturday. Spike had hurt him and his friends in so many ways, and broke their trust when he teamed with Adam.

Yet, Xander doesn't seem to wish him dead. He saved his life in Doomed, he kept him in his basement until Spike decided to leave, and when Spike asked for forgiveness after teaming with Adam, Giles and Willow looked at Xander for approval, and Xander shrugged, letting Spike be. I think we need more than one thread to discuss Xander and Spike -especially from Xander's side. Spike never really saw Xander or cared if he existed, but Xander did see Spike and complain about it. 😀
