Cordelia: (smiling smugly) I thought you slept outside to avoid your
family's drunken Christmas fights.

Xander gives her a look like he expected no less from her.

Xander: Yes. And that was a confidence I was hoping you would share
with everyone. (smiles sarcastically)

Drabble: Christmas Eve Campout

Xander stirred awake at the faint sound of something other than the drunken brawls inside his house. The air was quite chilly, and he found himself sinking further in his sleeping bag. A shiver ran down his spine when he spotted a figure approaching him.

A creepy smile crossed the stranger's lips.

"Who the hell are you?" Xander's hand searched for a non-existent stake.

Fangs appeared, and Xander struggled to get out of his sleeping bag. The vampire attacked, and this was the first time Xander ever felt a vampire bite. And unfortunately, he wouldn't live to tell the tale.

Questions:

1)How suicidal was Xander to sleep in his backyard, knowing what lurks around at night?
2)Why didn't Buffy invite Xander to spend Christmas at her house when she knew that Xander wasn't camping out for the stars?

~*~*~*~

Xander: (abashed) Look, I'm aware I haven't been the mostest best friend to you when it comes to the whole Angel thing, and, um, I don't know, maybe I finally got the Chanukah spirit.

Drabble: My Chanukah Spirit

"I don't know what to do," Buffy said miserably, shaking her head.

"I think right now the best plan is to deck the halls with boughs of holly." Xander placed a comforting hand on Buffy's shoulder. "Look, we'll catch the bad guys... sooner or later."

Buffy gave him a grateful smile. He was tempted to add that Angel was going to be okay, but couldn't. This whole supportive friend over killer vampires thing was taking too much of his energy already.

When her gaze wandered elsewhere, Xander was surprised when he suddenly felt that he wanted Angel to be okay.

Questions:

Does Xander's attitude towards Angel change after this episode?

Observations:

I remember Xander wanting to help Buffy and Angel sorting their problems in The Zeppo, and remember how he was concerned about Angel in Graduation Part One. But then, I also remember that after Angel punched him, he was quick to assume that Angel became Angelus, and when Angel bit Buffy, Xander was too harsh on Angel. I guess Xander's attitude DOES change, because the only times he accuses Angel after Amends are all because Angel does something wrong: punching Xander and biting Buffy, other times, he seems okay with him.

1. That always bothered me!! Like, you live in Sunnydale. You know what lurks around at night. Why on earth would you sleep outside?! Maybe he didn't care whether he lived or died (though I doubt this, because he has had the opportunity to get himself killed numerous times at this point) or maybe all the demons and vamps and such are just so common place to him that he didn't really give it a second thought.
2. Didn't Buffy invite all of the Scoobies? And that's how Willow was all "Hey, still Jewish."? I can't remember the order exactly, but I think Buffy inviting all of them is how the whole conversation got started.
3. I have always felt like Xander always had/will always have a problem with the ensouled vampires in his life (Angel AND Spike). He struggles with it and doesn't trust them. Even though he acknowledges the good they have done, he is always quick to point out their faults and misdeeds, and just always seems uneasy around them. To me it has always seemed he tolerates their presence because Buffy (and Willow and Giles) do.

1. Xander sleeping outside is an oversight but I guess once you except that Sunnydale is full of Demons etc.. then you just have to get on with your life, I mean otherwise no one would ever go outside. The chances of Xander happening to get attacked on that one night would be pretty slim.

2. I don't remember Buffy inviting the other Scoobies but she could have. Like I said it just served the story function to invite Faith as to add to her storyline, plus it might be foreshadowing Xander's direction in the 4th season, and of course it just made for a unique visual😀

3. I don't think that Xander was harsh on Angel when it fed on Buffy I could understand his reaction completely. I guess post-Amends there is not much left in the Buffy-Angel relationship and also Xander himself moves on so maybe that is why. As for would his attitude change if he was there? Possible, but then I just think over time he became more accepting of Angel anyway, partly because of him maturing and just being distracted by other things too.
