Reason for Eye Patch: His eye was gouged out by a superhumanly strong evil priest played by Nathan Fillion. Fun fact: The writers originally intended to kill Xander off, but decided he was too important to the show. All it cost him was an eye!

I'm so glad he wasn't killed off! I would have been too heartbroken to finish out the season!

I'm so glad they didn't kill Xander off... especially in season seven, he had such a heart, I really loved him. The hospital scene in Empty Places breaks my heart every time I watch it. Thanks for sharing!

A question if anyone knows the answer to it: Does anyone know the episode where they intended to kill him off?

Probably the same episode when he gets his eye gouged out, Dirty Girls. I'm glad they didn't kill him off...I was already traumatized enough when Caleb stuck his finger in his eye haha.

When Seaosn 7 originally aired, we didn't get the channel, so I didn't see a lot of the episodes til after the DVDs were released. I remember reacting a lot like Spike in that scene in "Dirty Girls". How could you NOT watch that and not wince?! It was seriously one of the most shocking scenes of the series. All this time, our core Scoobies have pretty much been untouchable, except for Willow getting squished by the bookcase in Season 2 and Giles being impaled through the RV window in Season 5. And all of a sudden the Season's most deadly character has Xander in his clutches... I thought for sure he was going to kill him.

I remember my initial reaction as well. It definitely was (and still is) a cringe worthy scene.
