Xander the Werewolf?

What if Xander ha been turned into a werewolf at some point? Do you think it would have been better for the show if Xander had been the werewolf instead of Oz?

Personally I think it's an interesting thought but I love that he was always just a normal guy... It gave him a more relatable feel. You?

Well I'm in the same position as you... I feel that maybe that would have made Joss less bored with his character or whatever after 5 seasons but really, I love Xander the way he is. Just the regular Joe who is at times overlooked because all his friends are these superheroes.... it all comes down to that little speech he gives Dawnie about being extraordinary, it's really how I feel about Xander, he's extraordinary the way he is... it's just that he doesn't get the same time to shine as the rest.

To me he doesn't need to be any kind of 'super' to be great, in fact I feel he's great for the lack of it, so though a werewolf plot could have been interesting I prefer Xander just getting to be Xander (he's a super-carpenter though 😉)

I love Xander the way he is. The lack of storylines isn't Xander's problem, it's the lack of imagination on Joss' part.

I feel that being a werewolf will make Xander more of a burden on his friends because three nights of the month, he should be locked in a cage. He would be totally useless, while normal Xander would be available for research or backup or even fetching donuts every night. Sure, it'll be easier to write stories for Werewolf Xander, but it's also easy to write stories for Normal Xander, just needs interest and imagination. Why else does Xander have so many fanfics scattered all over the internet?

Definitely, definitely agree. I think Joss was trying too hard to focus on Willow and Spike in the later seasons. Maybe that's why I got so damn bored and irritated with both characters after Season 5.

I think it's great that they kept Xander as the pure human of the group. Making him a werewolf may have given the writers something to fall back on if they felt they needed a storyline for Xander, or an excuse for him, but I don't think he would have as much forward progression as he did.

While I am sure that I would've found Xander as a werewolf interesting, I am ultimately glad that we had Oz instead and Xander was the "normal" guy in the abnormal scenarios. I agree that it made him easier to relate to.

It would have been interesting, but I like Xander the way he is. I like that he was the only "normal" one of the group.

I think it was really important to have a 'normal' character in the mix. Someone that people can relate to, and someone that is going to make everyday human mistakes. As much as I am not a fan of Xander, he is a bit heroic at times, helping out his mates as much as he can with his limited abilities.

Also I'd imagine he would turn creepy, like he did when he was possessed in The Pack. I have a feeling he would get a big head if he had special powers and wouldnt trust that he would use them for good. On the other hand, if he ever did kill anyone in a wolf form he may have gone into a depression or dark place and we had enough of that on the show.
