i dont know if this has been discussed before, but just something i thought about while watching "friends". and of course no one will know what i'm talking about unless you watch "friends" but here goes:

anyone think there is a distinct similarity between the characters of chandler and xander?

1. each of them deliver consistenly sarcastic lines, and otherwise random jokes.

2. each of them are capable of much more than they are allowed to do (xander not being able to fight for example)

3. each of them is a loser with the ladies, yet have had the most long lasting relationship of any other character on the show. (xander/anya) (chandler/monica)

4. each of them can see traits in the other characters that others might not (xander we already know)
(chandler once named the most annoying habits of every other character just to get them off his back)

i dunno, just makes me think jw might have drawn from chandler a little in developing xander. anyone think i'm crazy?

They are very similary!!! Thanks for sharing it with us, I liked seeing how similar they were!!! 😀

fun? you mean their jokes arent as funny? well, i imagine after so many seasons, the writers would start to lose a step, but i think they're still the funniest in their respective casts.

I've said this a million times, just not on this board.

From the time when I was watching the Buffy ep. entitled "Angel", and Xander said "Let's stop this crazy whirligag of fun...I'm getting dizzy!", I've thought this. At the time I wasn't an avid watcher of Buffy, just tuned in now and then. I was doing something else, and looking away from the TV, and I actually had to look up to see if that wasn't Matthew Perry! Ever since then, I have found them to be very similar. 🙂

Not crazy in the least. Both actors have amazing comedic timing, and can pull off complex jokes with relative ease. But it goes deeper than that - it's not even the similarities between the characters, there's a similarity between the vocal rythm and pacing that the actors use as well.

I've always believed that either Nick or Mathew could jump into each other's roles and we'd barely know the difference.

Personally, I can't wait to see Nick in his upcomig Sitcom, because I can see that BtVS hasn't had any room for wisecracks since season 5, and it's been killing his popularity with the fans. His gift will always be comedy - I can't wait to see him in that role again.
