Was just reading that Xanya marriage thread and noticed a couple of people saying him leaving Anya wasn't his worst moment, and it got me thinking. Im struggling to come up with something he done that was that bad, i dunno if he has a worst moment. I dont think what he done to Anya was wrong. So what, if any, do you think was Xanders worst moment on Buffy?

Xander is my favourite BTVS character, so I feel the need to defend him and say that he didn't really have any 'worst' moments, just bad decisions, or bad timing.

One of his worse bad decisions was definitely not telling Buffy about Willow trying to resort Angel's soul. While I can see that Angelus was an evil SOB, Xander wasn't really trying to protect the world from Angelus. He was doing it for purely selfish reasons, to get rid of Angel, even though he was already with Cordy at this stage.

I really, really like Xander.

The leaving Anya at the alter moment was probably one of the most painful moments I watched in the whole series so I'd have to go with that.

I'm a big Xander fan as well (seems like there are a lot of people who just detest the guy though).

I'll have to think for awhile on this subject. I'm not sure offhand what I would choose as his worst moment.

Hear, hear. I totally agree.

No, i don't think Xander has had many bad moments. He left Anya, for a reason he believed in. I was with him on the "kick his ass" comment.
Any bad moments - cheating on Cordy, and that "well Jenny's dead" comment, was a tad insensitive.
I'm a big Xander fan, and still hope Buffy ends up with him. Spike or Angel, nah, Xander all the way. 🙂

I have to agree about him cheating on Cordy was probably his worst moment, even if i do dislike her, its still pretty bad of him. I wasn't that bothered by the kick his ass thing though.

What about when he almost tries to rape Buffy in the first season, I know he was under some sort of magic spell, but he remembered all of it, and I am sure he still considers it to be one of his worst moments.

Side note to that, I remember in season 6 or 7, Dawn is calling Xander a wimp and saying that Spike would never runaway, and he yells at her "Well at least I didnt try to rape your sister", which is kind of hypocritical in my honest opinion. Even though he was under the spell, that was still one of his primal urges he was trying to hide.

I dont know if i can blame Xander for the attempted rape in the Pack. There is only one reason that happened and that was the spell. Kinda like in the episode Billy, when Wes and them get turned into woman haters and Wes is going after Fred just for being a woman. It wasn't his fault though!

I think the worst Xander moment would be in Revalation when he teamed with Faith to kill Angel and then lied to Buffy saying that Angel hurt Giles, when he knew it wasn't Angel.

I can't believe that Xander gets blamed for something he didn't do. He was possessed, Spike wasn't. Xander had the chance to rape Buffy in BB&B but he didn't and that means it's not one of his primal urges.

Well, Spike kinda was possessed
I think any of Xander's jelaousy moments are worse than in Hell's Bells. I can't be mad at him for leaving Anya, he thought it was the right thing to do.

Now show me a scene with Xander's "Let's kill Angel, who regrets everything he's done, because he used to be a evil demon, kinda like me in The Pack when I tried to rape you. Oh look, now I'm kissing Anya, a ex-vengance demon who probably has done more damage than Spike & Angelus combined. But seriosuly, we need to kill Angel." and I'll get mad at him.

He can be such a hypocrite.

I can't believe that Xander gets blamed for something he didn't do. He was possessed, Spike wasn't. Xander had the chance to rape Buffy in BB&B but he didn't and that means it's not one of his primal urges.

Xander had the hyena-demon in him and Spike had the vampire demon in him. Both weren't their human selves. Neither can be blamed.

And Xander tried to rape Buffy, but was knocked out. It might have nothing to do with HIS primal urges, since it might just have been the hyena, but he would have if she'd been weaker.

Btw, I totally forgot about him cheating and then acting like it was nothing. What a SOB.

I have two worst Xander moments...

1. Not telling Buffy that they were working on giving Angel his soul back. I don't like Bangel, but as a friend Xander should know what it means to Buffy.

2. The whole Willow affair. I don't think it was good at all. It wasn't just Xander but he should know that Willow now had Oz, and just live with it!

I seem to be one of few who does not consider telling Buffy to kick Angelus ass as his bad moment. Willow had already tried it once and failed. There was impending apocalypse as well and if he had told Buffy truth then she might not have had sufficient resolve to win the fight. Instead Buffy might have gotten herself killed.

I do agree marriage was his worst moment. Just not sure is it beginning (Gift), between (upto Hells Bells) or actual wedding (Hells Bells).

I agree with the people who've said that Xander's worst moment was him not telling Buffy about Willow trying to restore Angel's soul, but in a way you can see were he was coming from. He was a very angry teenage boy at the time and they dont usually think logically. Plus Xander and Buffy have a very volitile relationship when it comes to Angel and they've had some very heated arguements about it.

I cant hate him for the Willow relationship though. I dont condone cheating but Willow had loved Xander forever and it seemed only fair for them to get it together for awhile.

Skytteflickan88, I think you make a really good point about the rape issue. Not that I'm a fan of Spike, being a bangel and all but he was still a vampire, even if he had a chip in his head.

When the Scoobies and The Potentials kicked Buffy out of her own house, and Xander sacastically aided them.

Yup. I forgot that one. That could go down as a few characters worst moment.
You cant blame Buffy for Xanders eye. He chose to be Buffys ally every time he went on a mission with her. There was always gonna be a risk of serious injury or death. Thats something HE chose to accept. Dont blame Buffy for that!

Im not blaming her for that, I am just saying that it was her plan to just storm Calebs place without a definite plan, even though Giles warned her. Xander backed her like a good friend, so it easy to see why he couldn't possibly back her to go right back in after 3 girls died and he lost an eye. She needed them to bring her back down to earth. She became a much better leader after it was said and done. I don't think that could be considered and bad moment in Xander history.

Xander had the hyena-demon in him and Spike had the vampire demon in him. Both weren't their human selves. Neither can be blamed.
.

Okay, then by this logic, we can't blame Buffy and the Scoobies for treating soulless Spike badly, since he'd kill/rape/attack them any second if he got that chip out. They shouldn't give him a chance. Ever.

When Xander told Dawn about Spike, he was Spike the same Spike who tried to rape Buffy, he didn't get a soul yet.

Xanders worst moment? How about season 1 to 7? Actually I'm starting to get over my Xander hate, it's cooled down a little.

Xander has done some incredibly stupid things throughout the series. Equally I think they all stink. Lying in The Pack, having a tantrum because Buffy tells him she doesn't 'feel it', his entire treatment of Angel, but none of this bothers me as much as his general attitude - the hypocrisy, and the nastiness.

These are things that mean I can never like the character, but I'm trying to understand him a little more, and feel empathy towards him instead of hate.

Xander is kind of like that guy that has just started dating your best friend. You really don't like him. You really don't want them together. But, you decide that you like your friend more then you dislike the new boyfriend.

Xander is the boyfriend.
BtVS is your friend.
