XFiles Rewatch Season 1

Re: Samantha; "Closure" Basically, Samantha was held hostage by the Cancerman, who extracted her genetic material to make the small village of clones. She ran away, was put into a hospital, before being rescued by.... Mother -%¥¢√°£#! Child rescue fairies.

Looks like she was just a kid then. Alien Bounty Hunter was either lying or mistaken (more likely there was once a far more ambitious arc planned--or to one day be planned--but ultimately chose something perhaps anticlimactic).

Btvs fan
Wasnt that more her Spirit than her body so essentially she went to Xfiles heaven?
Here's a question that I thought of after talking to that fan.

How likely would the series (including a spinoff or two) lasted longer and better if one season ends with Mulder vanishing (more or less as it happens in the show, but end it very soon after), and then, after a year to think of new arcs and stories (so not renewed for a new season), make a sequel series of Scully and Doggett? Only now it's Scully searching for Mulder instead of Mulder looking for his sister.

x

By the way, I just remembered. What happened to Samantha after she was kidnapped? The alien bounty hunter told Mulder Samantha was still alive and yet I thought it was revealed later that she died young?

Even the fan I talked to didn't know as he was confused by all the Samantha clones.

I did see it, but I barely remember it. All I can say is I liked the movie before (Fight the Future) it a lot better (and I remember the first movie pretty well, unlike Connelly's).

And I have a vague feeling that I liked the start more (perhaps where I was still giving it a chance?) and remember more of it than I do the last half despite I'm sure what I forgot includes many climatic scenes.

I might watch it again when I'm less busy as it's bothering me that I recall so little about it.

That's basically what Season 8 was like. One of the reasons it/Dogget
gave the show a shot of adrenaline fir that season. Doggett was basically what Spike was to Angel.

Hell you don't even need Scully just have Skinner be the catalyst/ guy looking for Mulder

But yeah they should've stopped the show long ago and concentrated on a spin off. One of the actual weak points of Season 9 is Scully. She is completely unescessary to the season and could easily be written out without losing anything.

Out of universe Anwser is that Carter was making it up as he went along and changed it despite saying he had a plan. Yeah in A7 she apparently died after escaping a base at the age of 14 even though it contradicts her being raised by Cancer Man etc and the Alien Bounty Hunter saying she's alive

Even all the other writers expressed concern at how convoluted the whole mythology was and how fans just didnt understand it though Carter insists there is one!

I know it was massive flop which stopped any more though Carter said the next one would've been a myth arc movie which is what the fans wanted this to be....
Honestly I think the guy is such a narcissist and can't admit he's wrong or that he had no intention of doing it.

I will be interested in his Director Cut version assuming it ever gets made. Will this be his Kingdom of Heaven ?, which Ridley Scott's Director Cut was basically a different film to the cinema version

I think one of Doggett's advantages was, although he was The Scully, he was far more open minded and willing to accept evidence than Scully herself was for a long time.

Iv watched 4D and John Doe and am currently watching Audrey Paulie (skipped the rest) which are considered the best episodes of the season.
I feel bad for Reyes as with a bit more effort in the writing (as she's well acted) she could've been a decent character.

In all 3 Scully is pointless, I dunno what's she is doing on the show besides give Gillian Anderson a pay cheque

These episodes are enjoyable though I'm not sure I'd have any in my top 10 List. John Doe the best of the lot.
I'm annoyed watching Audrey because Reyes doesn't ask her the obvious question, where am I, what is this ?
While the evil Dr murdering his nurse because she witnessed his injection is so cliche its laugh out loud stuff

My guess would be paycheque and providing continuity, due to a fear all the fans would have left if both original actors had gone.
I did see it, but I barely remember it.

All I remember about The X-File: I Want To Believe is that critics who watched redubbed it The X-Files: I Wanted To Leave, which is actually pretty clever for film critics. 🙂

It really didn't seem like an X-Files film, which is why I forgot Billy Connolly was in it.

Will you be watching this Director Cut if or when it gets released

Nope. The X-Files is one of those shows I never want to revisit. I remember the good and that's enough for me.
Weirdly all of Season 9 is on Amazon prime except the finale in which case I have to join Paramount plus 🤷😬 but 10 and 11 are then back on prime also

I saw Release and Sunshine Days. Both were OK but I'd hardly say brilliant though Robert Patrick shines in both.

I don't plan to get Paramount plus so I might watch certain select episodes of 10 and 11 ...

Robert Shearman, in his book Wanting to Believe: A Critical Guide to The X-Files, Millennium & The Lone Gunmen, gave the episode a scathing review and awarded it one star out of five.[12] Despite calling the opening "promising", Shearman derided the episode's ending—especially the revelation of alien colonization of December 22, 2012—writing, "is this really what the series was about?"[12] Furthermore, Shearman concluded that the problem with the episode was that the show, which he called "brilliant—frequently, truly brilliant" decided "to define itself in the summing up" with the episode, which did not answer very many questions.[12]

UGO named the episode the fourteenth "Worst Series Finale" and wrote that the episode—and the show's eighth and ninth seasons by extension—were negatively affected by the series' lack of a defining plot line. The article noted that, while the episode claimed to wrap up the story arcs for the series, "the trial of Mulder ultimately resulted in very little satisfying payoff to the series' overarching mysteries".[42] Joyce Millman, writing for The New York Times, after the premiere of "The Truth", said of the show: "The most imaginative show on television has finally reached the limits of its imagination."[4

Reviewers went to town on what was at the time the series finale

To be fair, a group of supersoldiers using an unmarked black helicopter to kill an Indian mystic is more of a Walker episode, not an X-Files one.

The second film; Something about a Russian transsexual having his head attached to the body of a teenage girl via super science?

Yeah I didn't bother with the 2nd movie instead Iv gone straight to seasons 10 and 11 which I've not seen before

I watched 10 and 11 before most of the previous ones.

Actually not remotely the most confusing order I've watched something.

I know Darin Morgan worked on them and he wrote some of the best episodes on the original show so I'll give it a chance

So Iv seen the first 3 of S10:
My Struggle- Meh 5/10 I didn't hate but I didn't love it either. BTW Does Carter know he based his title off Hitlers book title ???

Founders Mutation 6/10 It was watchable though I wouldn't bother to see it again

Mulder and Scully meet the Where Monster is Definitely a 10 out of 10 episode. I thought it was hilarious Darin Morgan is a genius 🤣

The most memorable episode of those two seasons for sure.

So Iv seen Home Again and Babylon

Home Again is meh 5/10, I don't like or dislike it. Some good stuff with Scully and her mother and the plot is an old school Xfiles that we've seen 1000 times before. But the Scully B plot has no real effect on the A plot and the A plot doesn't go anywhere. The Garbage/Homeless Spirit/creation kills some people and well that's it.
Then Scully has a cry about her son and nothing the episode just ends.

Babylon terrible episode 3/10 and I'm being generous. I think Carter was trying to copy Darin Morgan with a mix of Horror/Comedy but failing miserably. Carter goes full racist Islamic cliche/tropes then introduces a proto Mulder and Scully that's meant to be funny but aren't in which case the joke falls flat.
The Mulder mushroom tripping (though its revealed its not Mushrooms so how is he tripping ?) Is visually great but feels like just an excuse so Duchovny can do a Cowboy dance. Again the episode goes no where.

Not seen My Struggle 2 (seriously what's with using the sake title over and over ?) But of the 6 episodes there's 1 genuinely high quality episode and the rest completely forgettable. Somone get this franchise out of Carters hands

The My Struggle episodes are supposed to be part of the same story. Not that I can really remember what it was...
@NotASlayer So I just saw My Struggle 2 the season 2 finale. 1/10 that's being generous
My god that was awful. A very clunky script with lots of exposition but that exposition doesn't actually make sense or add anything do is just waffle.
Mulder has a truly awful Jason Bourne style fight scene that is laugh out loud terrible.
Oh yeah Cigarette Smoking Man shows up somehow surviving a missile strike and Reyes is working for him WTF !
Look I didn't think Reyes was a particularly well written character in S8/9 but damn she was done dirty in this. While CSM doesn't do any thing but monologue absolute waffle which Mulder amd co simply accept for well reasons ...
We got more of the proto Mulder and Scully who are just as in uninteresting as they were last time.
Scully is not Scully though GA does what she can with the material given.

All in all as an episode its awful and as a Season Finale its awful..
Onto Season 11

You will no doubt be pleased to know that the season 11 opener makes the season 10 finale even worse.

Iv just seen My Struggle 3 . Again like part 2 the episode is horrible and clunky but even more so.
There is an awfully shot car chase and Mulder literally cuts a guys throat open with a scalpel knife (did we as an audience need to see that !)
Scully just spends the episode sick in a hospital before she leaves has a car accident and is then back in the hospital 😂😂
Skinner should simply shoot CSM immediately like he did with Kryceck bur he doesn't because reasons..
CSM just waffles on for no real reason
Bur yeah the Smoking Man is William's Father 🤢..... Seriously did know one think to say to Carter "Chris I'm not sure that's a goid idea 🤔 " like not 1 person in the Writers room or in production WTF was he thinking 😳
0 stars can't think a single good thing to say about this episode

Don't forget what happened with the global pandemic...
@NotASlayer
So I saw This ;, it's basically copying old Xfiles plots of people being downloaded into the Internet. Only this time they don't have the excuse of it being in the 90s and so looks even more ridiculous.
They also do a reset on Skinner with him back to a is he helping or not! This script is so bland and unoriginal. At the end Mulder says they are going to come back with FBI Agents to raid the place and nothing is there ... didn't guess that was going to happen
You've also got an evil Russian Mercenary group that are allowed to try and murder FBI Agents in America for well reasons I guess. The fight scenes of a 60 year old David Duchovny beating up a young guy in his 20s is unintentionally hilarious and an equally old Gillian Anderson jumping up and down flights stairs like she is Spiderman had me thinking again did no one making this think this is bad. 2/10 Again I feel I'm being generous

Plus One ; This felt like it had the germ of a good idea of 2 twins telepathically playing hangman and that it literally murders people when they do.
Unfortunately it was Carter writing it and it felt rushed like a first draft and the whole evil Twin apparition appearance bit was unescessary. Plus Mulder constantly showing up at Scullys bed at night I think Carter thought was funny but instead just came across as creepy. Also very disjointed from the previous episode where they seemed together.
Again giving David Duchovny a Jason Bourne style fight scene WHEN HE'S 60 YEARS OLD really doesn't work
4/10 like I said it had a decent idea but this felt like a first draft.

So I watched The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat by Darin Morgan. 10/10 A sheer master class
It's so surreal comparing him to Chris Carter and the other writers episodes so far. It's not even the same league. The others are middling to terrible but his scripts are first class. Its like comparing a Ferrari to broken down Ford. Its not in the same league. Unlike Carter he gets it.
Both of the episodes Iv seen of his would be in my Top 10 X-Files episodes
