XFiles Rewatch Season 1

@NotASlayer @thrasherpix
So I saw episodes Ghouli/Kitten and Rm9sbG93ZXJz
Ghouli is meh, starts ofc shocking then goes nuts, to be frank I'm supposed to feel sympathy for William after he got two girls to stab each other huh ๐Ÿคท 4/10
Kitten Haley Joel Osmet gives a gold peformance and some of Skinner's backstory is interesting but they didn't need to reset him to is he helping or not ! 6/10
Rm9sbG93ZXJz 10/10 Genuinely great hour of TV both scary and so true to life

I suspect if I rewatched the last two seasons they would seem a lot worse now, given that I originally watched them before the vast majority of the earlier seasons.

So Iv seen Familiar and Nothing Lasts Forever
Familiar is enjoyable but a very rushed ending and feels like a lesser version of Die Hand Die Verletzt of them using demonic forces that consume them without the deliciously evil Mrs Paddock as in that one 6/10 I enjoyed it all the same

Nothing Lasts Forever, to be frank it didn't feel like an Xfiles episode and more like a gory attempt at meta commentary. It was enjoyable enough but the gore overload was to much and character motivations got dropped by the wayside 6/10 again enjoyable enough

OK My Struggle 4 is next ...

So I saw the Finale and no it ain't great. The directing as well. Its so flat during the running scenes in the factory and Mulder as a 60 year old Jason Bourne still doesn't work
as the writing was terrible.
I mean the whole Willian plot line has bored me but suddenly after all that for Scully to turn around and say oh he's just a lab experiment WHUT !!! But apparently she's pregnant again so it doesn't matter.
CSM dies again ... He was completely unescessary to both seasons
The Skinner/Reyes deaths ๐Ÿ˜
Terrible way to end the show. No wonder they've given it to Ryan Coogler, Chris Carter has really lost it
3/10 and I'm being generous

So thats Season 10 and 11 done. Overall there's 3 genuinely outstanding episodes of TV... the rest is awful

For Skinner it seemed to be much more ambiguous. Reyes... well, watching the earlier seasons after watching this, her becoming villainous seemed odd.

I think it fell down where it always tended to; the myth arc episodes. And with shorter seasons, these took up a lot of each season.

You saw his dead body under the car ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
The only ambiguous one is CSM which given he survived a missile strike is likely. Mulder should've shot him in the head !

I disagree I think you could've given 25 episodes like the early seasons and it still would've been the same because of Chris Carter. The guys an absolute hack. It's all he knows how to write. So much so Gillian Anderson wants nothing more to do with him.

I'm sorry but he also knew exactly what he was doing calling his episodes Mein Kampf (4 of them) and all were full of his mystery box nonsense.

At the time, it looked to me like the car had come at Skinner and he'd tried to dive out of the way. The next time we saw him, he was motionless under the other car, not the one that was trying to run him over. He'd not been run over nor sandwiched by the car. So it seemed like they could say that Skinner had dived out of the way but was knocked unconscious, rather than dead, or that he was dead, depending on what they wanted to do.

I think what I was getting at is that if you have 3-4 low quality and myth arc episodes in a short season of only six episodes, it takes up much more of the season than the same number of episodes in a 25 episode season. You can make up for 10-20% bad episodes in a season more easily than 50%+.

To be honest apart from the 3 specific episodes most of the other episodes felt like forget able rehashed from old episodes.

It's kind of surreal because Meet the Where Monster/Forehead Sweat and Rm9sbG93ZXJz are now all in my Top 10 episode list but the rest......
Both Season 10 and 11 are horrible overall. I think I dislike 11 more because Carter basically said the 10 finale was just a dream and they made CSM Williams father. Why would he do that it felt like an F U to the fans

Yes; nine not great episodes out of 12 looks bad. Nine out of 50, not so much. Plus with longer seasons you tend to get more "Eh" episodes; middle of the road that are neither good nor bad.

Watching all the previous seasons afterwards made the all just a dream thing even more noticeable, given that Carter had basically gone and done the thing that fans hated the first time around. Again.

There's no guarantee it would've been just 9, that figure probably would've been larger

I'm just amazed no one said to him you know what Chris this isn't a good idea !
He was just trying to pull the same old mystery box style tactics he used before but this isn't the 90s it doesn't work anymore. JJ Abrams has mystery boxed every one enough for 1.

He also rehashed a lot
Bringing CSM back.. Doing a reset on Skinner...Essentially having Reyes (he really did her dirty) in the Krycheck role...
Having William replace Samantha as the thing to chase after .... Hell he even dud another Syndicate

He's saying oh if there'd been another season he'd wrap it all up. But he said something similar after the Billy Connelly movie saying the next Movie was gonna wrap things up....
It just feels like excuses

You kind of get the feeling he was hoping that inspiration would strike if he was given enough time.

Yeah, that assumes that it actually IS 9 out of 50. If you assume the ratio stays the same, then it's more like 38 bad ones out of 50.

Yes, that's always the chance. It's basically assuming that the worst episodes are the myth arc episodes, and that they would be a much smaller fraction of a longer season.

Babyalon was stand alone and that was awful

Yes; there were a few too many assumptions. However, earlier seasons did tend to be better.
