This is my first non-Check In post here, but I was wondering if I'm insane for thinking that Xillow were really hot together. It was terrible that Cordy and Oz were being cheated on, but I still really enjoyed Xander and Willow as a clandestine couple. Also, Xander was gorgeous as a vampire in Cordy's wish/alternate reality. (Then again, I think Xander was cute already...)

Thoughts?

I was never a fan of Xillow. I enjoyed Xander/Cordy and Willow/Oz much more and I feel like they just used Xillow as a plot device to break up the couples. I would have maybe liked them more had it happened in s2 when we could clearly see the sexual tension between them, but in s3 it just seemed like they missed the boat on Xillow. That, and I always found they worked much better as friend. I do not believe for a second that they actually liked each other that way, I think it was just lust or "high school infatuation" with one another.

However, I did really enjoy Xillow in the Wishverse, but that's truly the only moment I felt they worked as a couple in a twisted way a la Spike/Drusilla.

There's the whole "Willow is gay" issue also, but to me that really doesn't matter because she worked really well with Oz even if was gay. You could see that she loved him in an unconditional way even if he was a guy, where as Xander was just a phase. You're friends with someone for so long that you start wondering if you maybe have feelings for them or not. I think they both thought they had some sort of feeling of love for each other, but I think it was mostly hormones working up at point. Conclusion, I loved Woz, no matter what sexual orientation Willow was because they worked together. Xander and Willow just didn't do that for me.

On the other side of the medal, I kind of get where Willow came from with the confusion ect (trying to figure out who you're attracted to, while also loving a guy, doesn't make her actions okay but it makes her actions more interesting to dissect). Now onto Xander, I simply think he was being an ***hole for doing that to Cordelia (again not that Willow wasn't an ***hole to Oz, but at least I can enjoy the storyline with her). I think it's pretty clear that Xander never loved Cordy at that point, and that just makes me sad because I really enjoyed Cordy's evolution as a character because of Xander.

You're not insane, they had potential to make a cute couple at one point. I think the writers missed the mark though with the cheating story line; but it could have been sweet to have had a Xander and Willow fling the first summer Buffy was away.

No, they are hot together. Attractiveness of the actors aside, their costumes, especially Willow's, are generally much more, how shall I put it, favorable in those scenes, like that blue top thingy in "Revelations" or that gorgeous dress in "Homecoming". Also, what I really like about their smoochies is that it's always Willow who initiates them and kisses Xander first. This dynamic is later repeated in "The Wish", even with both of them turned into vampires Willow is still the dominant one, I mean, she gets to torture and rape Angel, Xander gets to watch.

I get the dislike of Xillow; I disagree with it, but I get it. Their relationship would have made much more sense during Season 1 or early Season 2; nevertheless, it was enjoyable to me.

I'm probably the only person alive who doesn't "get" Oz, though. I don't dislike him; he was an extremely thoughtful character. It's just he was so quiet that I didn't really understand what he was all about and so I had trouble grasping his and Willow's relationship.

I will second the notion that the Xillow scene where they were trying on their prom clothes in his bedroom (or was it her bedroom? I don't remember) was delightful.

By the way, I don't buy the idea that Willow is a lesbian. Her attractions to Oz, Xander, and any other guys (Were there others? I don't remember) were genuine. I prefer to think of her as bisexual rather than "gay now". I LOVE her relationship with Tara.

I didn't dislike Xillow the first time around, but my latest rewatch it makes me want to vomit lol. I think it really bothers me how it was made to seem okay that they were cheating on Oz & Cordelia.

YES! Thank you! This, exactly.

If it makes any difference, I pretty much identify myself as gay but have dated and been attracted to guys, in which cases my feelings were very genuine. I just don't think I could live the rest of my life with a guy. I guess that puts me at a 4 or 5 on the Kinsey scale, so I always assumed that Willow was about the same as I am. I'll sometimes introduce myself as gay like she does, but that doesn't erase of diminish the feelings I've had for guys. I guess the only difference is that I'd be open to dating a guy again while she wouldn't be, but I can still identify with her 😛

On a side note, I'm glad you like Tillow 😉

And to be back on topic, I agree with what other have said, I think what ruined the story for me was that it involved cheating, I think I would have liked them together much more had they both been free at the time.

Someone once told me that most people are somewhere in "the middle" on the Kinsey scale. Very few people lie at either extreme of the scale, so I appreciate your comments.

I can't get past thinking of Buffy, Xander, and Willow as practically siblings, the pairing of any two of them almost incest. I didn't ever see either Cordelia or Anya as part of the core group, so Xander's relationships with them was fine. Xander and Willow, or, in Season 8, (almost) Xander and Buffy just gave me the creeps.

I really love Xander / Willow in Wishverse though coz they are really, really, hot and sadist.... I could watch a whole season of those two being antagonists...

But it's a ship i'd never support. Willow felt she was good enough and confident within herself with Oz and Tara. She wasn't constantly compared to the likes of Faith, Cordelia and Buffy when it comes to Xander. They make great friends, but lovers? No.

Prior to season 3, I definitely rooted for Xillow. I felt heartbroken for Willow in the moments when she stood by and watched Xander be attracted to everyone but her, and I thought they had huge potential to be an adorable couple. However, after Oz entered the picture I was (and still am) such a huge Woz fan. I hated that the only way we saw Willow and Xander together (not counting The Wish) was because they were cheating. :\ That kinda ruined it for me...
I do love their sibling-like bond in the later seasons, though. Two of my favorite scenes in the entire series are when Willow breaks down into Xander's arms at the end of "Grave" and when she holds his hand in the hospital to comfort him after Caleb took his eye in Season 7.

I think that Xillow wouldn't have worked as well if it weren't without them already being together.
I loved that in season 2 episode 1, just before buffy gets back it is clear that xillow could have been something.
Part of the reason i loved season 3 so much was because of the tension between xander and willow.

I have to admit, I was never a big fan of Willow/ Xander, for the same reason that I'm not a fan of Xander/ Buffy. They're both very one-sided crushes- for the majority of the show, Buffy and Xander see Xander and Willows (respectively) as friends, rather than romantic interests, but both Xander and Willow act quite... I guess entitled is the right word for it, towards their respective crushes. They both give of the "Nice Guy" vibe regarding Buffy's relationship with Angel, and Xander's relationship with Cordelia, and pretty much anyone else. Xander's line about "I guess a guy has to be undead to make time with you", and Willow's snapping at Xander that they were "not OK" after she found out that he was dating Cordelia kind of makes me want to slap them and give them a lecture on how it is not up to them to dictate who their friends can date. It's one of my pet peeves 😛

I loved their friendship, mind you. I love that, when it comes down to it, they've got that really strong bond there, where Xander manages to talk Willow out of destroying the world, and when Xander calls Buffy out on her behaviour in WSWB because of Willow being in danger. I just don't really like their romantic relationship, and the entitlement that comes with it.

I agree with you on the fact that i didnt like the xander/buffy relationship and the onesideness of their crushes. But i felt that the xillow relationship in season 3 gave an edge to the show, showing the underlying feelings they have had inside for years, developing their characters further. Even though i agree that cheating is wrong , i really enjoyed xander and willow together romantically.
